Rating: Summary: For anyone and everyone Review: SECOND HELPINGS is most definitely the best true-to- life and remarkable teenage story out on the market. For fans of Mia Thermopolis, Alice McKinley, Georgia Nicolson, Bridget, Lenna, Tibby, or Carmen, there is no doubt in my mind that this thrilling and realistic story will bring home memories (or current feelings) of true high school angst. I even caught myself staring in disbelief as I was reading; shocked by the reality of Jessica in comparison to me. I checked my OWN journal, making sure no Miss. Hyacinth Blue had stolen into my bureau. To be serious, though, I have never felt so touched or so amazing after finishing a book than this one. The roots of this book run deep; they run through us all. If you haven't read this, you're missing out!
Rating: Summary: TOTOLLY AWESOME Review: megan mccafferty is a complete genius. jessica darlings cynical and pessimistic character is the perfect outline of any teenage-angst -ridden girl. its far from being one of those trashy teenage romance novels, but is a must for anyone who loves hidden jokes. you have to read every word to get the full totally-awesome-osity of this book. its even better to re-read it because you pick up more. THIS BOOK IS A MUST. u HVE GOT to read the first book though to read this. i was in a state of utter happiness when i finished it, at four in the morning on a school night because i couldnt put it down. i like other books like angus thongs and full frontal snogging and gossip girl, but this one tops them all because it isnt just stupid and fun. it is intellectually stimulating for those with the quicker /wittier mind. its not just about boys and gossiping , it gives the perfect view of a girl who is exactly NOT THAT. which makes it so distinguished. this is def one of the greatest books any highschooler could read. u will get so much more out of it than you could ever expect. READ IT. U WILL LOVE IT.
Rating: Summary: Completely Void of the ...-Sequel-Syndrome Review: ... This book was cynical, lovey-dovey, ironic, caring, mushy, and above all, surprising. It was hilarious, and had me laughing out loud, which very few books have achieved. By the end of the book, I felt so linked with Jessica that I cheered when...*don't even think about it*. McCafferty made it incredibly easy to feel an affiliation with our heroine, running the home stretch of high school-senior year. And it's everything you would expect in last year of the "best years of your life". With all of Jessica's problems like getting over the guy who "wooed" her last year (NOT), dating his best friend, and finally...*no way, just read it*, this book is unforgettable. Although I felt that the beginning was a tad bit too drawn out, and the ending came on a tad bit too rushed, this book was one that I will no doubt be reading over and over again, until my copy is incredibly beat up, whereupon, I will go out and buy another one. It'll teach you to be, in those soon-to-be infamous words, "You. Yes. You." All I can really say to follow that up is...READ IT!
Rating: Summary: "oh was it worth the wait" Review: The sequel to Sloppy Firsts, was in a way a relief to the fact that Jess and Marcus are together, but I won't share that whole thing. If you are going to get this book, get Sloppy Firsts too because if you are going to read Jess Darling, you're going to want to do it double time. It's an awesome book about how a dysfunctional teenagers mind works and funny and sometimes...well hot. But that is far from something Jess would say. Trust me that you will beyond love this. And you'll read it a disturbing number of times.
Rating: Summary: best sequel you can ask for Review: Second Helpings, is a wonderfully written book, completely bypassing the theory of the "sophomore slump" with flying colors. This second installation to what I hope will become a great Jessica Darling series, fulfills every one who has read Sloppy Firsts, hopes. It is very refreshing to read, witty, and comical. I recommend this to all women, no matter what age. It will help those in high school relate, or bring older women back to the "good ol' days" Wonderful book.
Rating: Summary: YESSSSSS!!!!!!! Review: Finally it has arrived! The long wait is over! Finally the answer to our questions! And all I can say is damn this book was good. Jessica is now a senior and she's still extremely mad at Marcus who she deems He Who Shall Remain Nameless. Jessica is once again faced with many problems: Where will she go to college? Will she be the world's first 90-year-old virgin? Can she handle the idea of a mini Bethany? And we finally get the answer to our question: WHAT THE HECK HAPPENS BETWEEN JESS AND MARCUS? Still loaded with wit and sarcasm Jessica charms her way into the hearts of her readers. I loved this book as much as the first, if not more. I certainly hope a 3rd book is in the makings.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful, A MUST Read for any teenage girl! Review: I'm guessing anyone who reads this book will absolutely love it, but I can only speak for myself and all my other teenage friends. We all loved it sooo much! Just make sure you read Sloppy Firsts first. And make sure you have a sense of humor while you read both books! They are both sooo FABULOUS!!! Definitely read this book, you will not regret it! Great great book, i haven't heard anyone who's read it say they didn't love it!
Rating: Summary: I adore it! Review: Sometimes I wonder if Megan McCafferty hasn't just invaded my brain, because I seem to think exactly like Jessica Darling. I adored the first book and love this one even more. . .I've read it four times and I've only had it for a week! Ms. McCafferty creates a cast of characters that are all dear to your heart. Besides Jessica, you have Bridget, Pepe, and Gladdie-characters I love; Manda, Sara, Scotty--characters I hate but still love just because they're so real. Everyone was fleshed out more, and you find yourself completely absorbed in the world of Pineville. Jessica's sarcastic but dead-on commentary of high school life was just my style. I loved her to death, but when she kept shoving Marcus away, I found myself inwardly screaming at her, "You're so stupid!" Then, of course, I have to think, "Kara, it's just a book." It was more than a book, however.
Rating: Summary: For anyone who hated high school...... Review: This book was easily one of the best books I've read in a long-long time, topping even Megan McCafferty's first book, Sloppy Firsts. Jessica, in the time since we'd left her has become even more cynical (excellent!) about her high school life, and more scathing about her classmates. Reading her story plummeted me back to my high school days (that i definitely don't miss!). I was intermittently laughing, crying, and jumping up and down, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute i spent reading this book.
Rating: Summary: McCafferty did NOT disappoint Review: I simply love, love, LOVED "Sloppy Firsts" and read it over and over again. I loved the Marcus/Jessica story line and could not wait until I found out what happened, so when I found out a sequel was being written I was estatic. I had high hopes for the book, and after reading it, I can tell you that I was NOT let down. It had everything I expected it too, and more. If you thought the first book was amazing, you'll fall over backwards when you read this one, especially the ending. A heads up: for all the Marcus/Jessica fans, believe me, you WON'T be disappointed. ;)
