Rating: Summary: The Ordinary Life of Jessica Darling. Review: Aaah! That's all I have to say. I bought the first book way back in 2001 when it was unknown. Not only did I fall in love with the book, I fell in love with Jessica, Marcus Flutie, Scottie Glazer, Hope, and the Clueless Crew. I obsessed over the book until April of 2003, when I got the second, pre-ordered, if I may add. I didn't expect the sequel, Second Helpings to be even better, but it was. Ahhh, it was amazing. I love the gang and was sad to finish it. I've written the author a few times and she is a wonderful person and very down to earth. I highly recommend that you guys and girls, get this book. It's funny, it's sad, it's cynical, it's intelligent, it's sweet, it's a twisted romance all in one. What more could you want?
Rating: Summary: Second lives up to the first. Review: So good. So so so good. You absolutely must read it, but make you read you Sloppy Firsts first. A book that portrays teenage girls in a witty, intelligent way.
Rating: Summary: A refreshing read Review: After reading Megan McCafferty's "Sloppy Firsts", I was eagerly awaiting the sequel. As much as I anticipated the novel, I was scared that the second book may not live up to the expectations I had built up after enjoying "Sloppy Firsts". I should have known better than to doubt Megan McCafferty's abilities because "Second Helpings" is a knock-out sequel! It lived up to all of my expectations and then some. If you enjoyed "Sloppy Firsts", you will definitely not be disappointed in "Second Helpings". It is a wonderful follow-up. Jessica Darling is as hilarious, witty, and sarcastic as ever, while still being true-to-life and extremely easy to relate to. An awesome book for any teenage struggling to figure out who you are and what comes next.
Rating: Summary: Tired of the typical teen book? Review: Me too and this book is NOT typical! It has something all teens can relate to. This book is a great, true to life story/setting. All of my friends loved it because the plot wasn't like all the other novels out there that are a waste of [money]!
Rating: Summary: Even more biting and real then the first... Review: In Megan McCafferty's Second Offering in the Jessica Darling sagas, we get introduced to her life as a Senior. With even more pessimistic yet realistic views of life as a suburban teenager, get ready for the rollercoaster ride of Jessica's life as she goes through new steps in boyfriends, sex-type-stuff, friends, dealing with the past, her family, and altogether your typical teenager life. The thing I love about this book is that its SO real. The average teen book out there puts the main character in some weird crazy situation that only a small majority can relate to: ex, death of a parent, living in a trailer park, etc. etc. McCafferty isn't afraid to address the fact that hwile in the GRAND scheme of things JD's probs are probably trivial, in her life, they are her world. Which is why i think I (and many others) can relate. If you're looking for a book where you feel at one with the characters and the plot, definately pick up Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings for a sometimes sad, sometimes touching, sometimes downright painfully hilariously embarassing and ALWAYS real plot!!!
Rating: Summary: Bee-yoo-ti-ful Book Review: I loved this book! I am so into reading books about teenagers trying to deal with high school, boys, ect. Because that's exactly what I am doing. Anyone doing the same, I would suggest this book. Out of all the books I have read, this has got to be the best. Jessica Darling is so much like myself, its scary. The way she's sarcastic and funny is so hilarious, and I laughed so many times. It's a great book and I could read it fifty more times.
Rating: Summary: She's Real Review: As I anticipated reading the last few pages of this book, I kept saying please don't let this be ending soon, please, please, please. But it did. And as I read the last few lines of the book, I felt like I wanted to cry. Not only because of McCafferty's writing, but that it was the end of Jessica's story (at least for now). I love this book more than I can put into words here. Jessica seemed like someone I would know in my life and her love story is one that many of us have experienced. More than anything though, Jessica is the character that we want her to be: Strong, intelligent, sensitive, self-analyzing, critical, and even dumbfounded as many teenage girls are. She's real. A character like Jessica has been too long coming, but thank goodness she has arrived.
Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL Review: I waited so long to read this sequel to Sloppy Firsts. It was WELL-WORTH the wait! This story mended my broken heart after Jessica Darling broke Marcus Flutie's the first time. This book had even more punch and angst the second time around and Jessica Darling's wit is razor sharp. The clueless two is even more skankier and Bridget "Millhouse" turns out to be a pretty good friend. Jess is even more caustic and amazing, yet vunerable when it comes to Marcus Flutie, the brooding genius. Anyone who reads Second Helpings will be thoroughly satisfied and begging for another Darling/Flutie saga! PLEASE DO MEGAN!
Rating: Summary: A Must Read Review: Second helpings is a must read. Without a doubt its one of my favorite novels of all time. Megan McCafferty captures all the troubles of highschool through Jessica Darhling minus the annoying corniness most unaware authors insert into their too close to perfect protagonists. Jessica manages to be cynical yet not sadistic and she is made up with severe contradictions to cliche books. jessica is not the perky cheerleader type and she doesn't condone cheerleading, yet she manages to be friends with bridget, the poster child for any cheerleader wannabe. She teaches to characters that it is impossible to make your self fall in love, but also that love is a necessity. McCafferty's brave style of writing proves shes scared of nothing: her characrers push the limits and this book defines realism at its best. Plus, if you like this book try out This lullabye, also a must read,
Rating: Summary: Another Reader Pleased Review: Words cannot begin to describe the greatness I felt the second I spotted a sequel to Sloppy Firsts sitting on a friend's desk in English last Friday afternoon. I squealed and giggled, emensely thrilled with the idea of one of the most desireable fiction characters coming back to my life: Marcus Flutie. Megan McCafferty has made Marcus Flutie the ideal man for me, and I pray that he exsists out there among the billions of people in this world. Jessica Darling is the most admirable person I have ever met and a simple "wow" is all I can seem to say about her. Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings were anything but angst ridden teenage lovesick books. The unexpected was performed in them, but delivered my dream: Marcus and Jessica, together at last. For the past 24 hours, I lived through Second Helpings. As I closed the book, I cried. I hope McCafferty decides to bring Jessica Darling back to life one more time. I cannot wait to read her other works and hope that she will graciously pass through a Phildelphia book store so I can meet the woman creating one of the best works to come across my immature years. I can only hope until then to pass along Second Helpings to others (after my mom finishes it) and encourage them to read each page, appreciating Jessica's life and what it can bring to all.
