Summary: Powerful
Review: After reading this book I discovered that I myself have a summer sister. I could easily relate to the book and at the end of each chapter I couldn't wait to start the next one. I was upset when the book ended it was so good. I hope that there is a sequel where Caitlin and Vix pick up where they left off.

Summary: Yuk! Retch! Whew!
Review: Blume should stick to adolescent-driven teen texts and leave soap opera where it belongs--daytime TV--and out of sight. Curiosity drove me to read it to the end where it really fell out of the realm of the even vaguely plausible. You'd have to be slathered in suntan oil and doped by the sun on a lonely beach (absolutely no distractions) to get much out of this one. Sorry, Judy, but foul mouthed cuties and single minded hunks just don't do it for me.

Summary: GRAPHIC. very graphic
Review: After years of writing children's books, Judy Blume has released all that sexual tension into one book. The book is a fairly quick read, but there are more than a few sections that leave you wondering, did I really need to know that?

Summary: The book would be okay for a teenager.
Review: This is not an adult book. It is something a teenager or young adult may enjoy. I would have preferred a little more "substance" rather than just mindless "jabber."

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: disapointing . . .
Review: This book seems very two dimensional, compared to her works for young adults. Her characters are rather flat, and difficult to get involved with. It is entertaining enough, but the denouement is visible from miles away.

Summary: All grown up...and still enjoying Judy Blume
Review: How many of us read "Are You There God, It's Me Margaret?" a dozen times??? Well I did. To me it always seemed like the grown up novel for the teenagers...kinda daring yet still teen enough. Since I was 13 I hadn't read a Judy Blume novel. Ten years later I read Summer Sisters. In a way it brought me back to my summer vacation reads. I loved the characters, the story, the vacation! I have loaned my copy to other friends or "summer sisters" to enjoy the Judy Blume humor and familiarity that we we had 10-15 years ago. Thanks for another great summer escape, Judy!

Summary: The best summer read I have ever seen...
Review: My roommate first read this book and then referred it to me. It was the greatest book I have read in a long time. I literally read it all day and night and was addicted. It is a book you won't want to put down and you'll be sad when your finished because there is no more to read... Also I felt right at home with the primary settings being Boston and the Vineyard.

Summary: A fantastic book, I could relate to some of the events
Review: I really enjoyed the book. I was surprised to see a book from judy blume in adult form. It had been so long since I had read any of her books. Only when I was a child did I read her books. Now I'm looking to read Smart Women if I can find it in paperback reissued.

Summary: Not her best work, but a good read
Review: "Summer Sisters" was pretty typical Judy Blume adult fare. Her "books for grownups" have never been quite as influential on me as the books I read as a kid -- "Blubber," "Iggie's House," etc.

Still, an enjoyable read that pulled me in quickly...I read the entire thing at one sitting, because the book encourages that...by starting off in one time, then leaping back into the past, I felt like I was racing to catch up with the beginning of the book. Does that make sense?

The characters will confuse you at times, as you wonder what their motivation is. We get to see inside the minds of most of them, except for Caitlin, the most complex of them all. Why she does what she does, and the reader's wonderings about what "might have been," makes the conclusion to the novel somewhat unsatisfactory.

Quite a lot of sexuality in this book as well...if you're not comfortable with that, leave the book on the shelf! Bravo to Judy Blume for being brave enough to acknowledge the not-quite-sure-what-they-are feelings and wonderings that many of us felt for our "summer sisters."

A good book...you will laugh and cry along with the characters, unless you have no soul whatsoever!!

Summary: Great summer story!
Review: I chose this book because I had read Judy Blume's "Wifey" many years ago and remembered how entertaining that was. My husband and I were heading to Cancun and I needed something to read on the plane. It definitely made the 3 hour flight from Chicago to Miami bearable. I felt like I was living two adventures. Ms. Blume has a wonderful way of drawing you in and making you care about the characters.
