Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This book was very good. It starts out rather slow, but it picks up very quickly. Excellent for when you have a lot of time to spare because you are not going to want to put this book down!
Rating: Summary: A joy to read; the characters are so real! Review: I couldn't put the book down and yet, with a 100 pages to go I read it slowly to savor every moment. It's like an evening out that you don't want to end because it is so good. These characters are people I know with emotions I have felt and with all the sadness in the world this is one great way to escape, fantasize, relive, recapture, revisit one's youth. It is the story of coming of age with all the accompanying emotions and insecurities and the directions one takes and the choices one makes vs. someone else. It unfolds wonderfully and the characters develop so true to life...from the main characters to the supporting characters. Hane't we all known families like these? I have to wonder where I would be today if I had had Abby and Lamb in my life. Bravo, Judy Blume.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: I am twelve years old and loved this book. Well you might say it was one of my favoite book. I could not put it down... so I read it in three days. Well, thank you Judy Blume for writing such a fantastic book!!
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've ever read. Review: I'm not sure if I would have picked up a Judy Blume book, ordinarily, I thought she was strictly a writer for younger girls. I'm so glad I did order the book. It was wonderful! I laughed and cried, and remembered good and not so good things from my own summer sisters.
Rating: Summary: The most touching book I've ever read Review: I just finished it and I just want to say that I've never been so moved by a book. The characters seemed so true-to-life and I related to so much of what they went through, as I'm sure most of us would. This is one of the best books I have ever read. It will make you laugh and make you cry, and more importantly, it will make you think. Great work, Ms. Blume!
Rating: Summary: You will experience summer through the eyes of two girls. Review: Excellent read! You havent experience summer if you have not read this book. Judy Blume takes you on a journey through life from the eyes of, two girls, Caitlin and Vix. At times you'll be laughing and crying. You won't want to put this book down.
Rating: Summary: Page Turning!!!!!! Review: I Haven't picked up a Judy Blume novel since I was 11 years old. Big Mistake!! This book was truley wonderful. I am 27 years old with a nine month old son,and I finished this book in just two days. It brought back so many memories of those awkward but fun teenage years. This book will make you laugh and cry at the same time.
Rating: Summary: Eh, so so Review: Okay, this book is not as bad as everyone says. It does have it's fair share of sex in it, but it's not so full of it that it gets annoying. The plot is a little weak, most books at least have a purpose! It starts out a bit dull, but it slowly gets more interesting. It's also a bit strange at parts (like the part about Lamb and The Countess taking baths together, what's up with that? and the whole deal with "The Power"? I'll tell ya, that's not somethig I did with my best Friend when I was 12!) I won't tell you who Vix ends up with, but I will tell you that it will probably surprose you. Also, I didn't like the ending. It seemed rushed, like Judy just wanted to get it over with. It's a quick and very easy read (probably an 11 year old can read it and understand it , but I definetly wouldn't let your 11 year old read it!) Try just reading it on the beach or something. It's a good way to kill time.
Rating: Summary: Very exciting. I felt like I was with them through it all. Review: This was the first adult book by Judy Blume I had ever read. It was the best book I have read in a long time. I didn't know Judy wrote books for adults until this one, I have read almost all of her other ones when I was younger. My favorite then was, Are you there god it's me Margret?. The people in this book were so real, everything that happened to these girls could happen to anyone. The book never had a dull minute, and I'm looking forward to reading many more of her books.
Rating: Summary: Judy Blume shows us that our choices do shape our lives. Review: Summer Sisters is a heartfelt story of how our relationships with ourselves, friends and family members mold us and how our choices whether right or wrong, popular or not- shape our lives. With one question and one answer, two young girls lives intertwine and the lives of their loved ones or even not so loved ones have a lasting and meaningful impact. As the characters grow up they question their choices, judgements, each other and themselves. You can relate to Caitlin and Vix as if you knew them, the way each is insecure or jealous and shows friendship and love in the only way she knows how. The dysfunctional family units is all too familiar in our society and is another area the reader can easily relate. If you've read any of Judy Blume's books as a young child and thought, wow ! she really understands, well this book is the adult version and has those lingering questions that as teenagers we'd thought would be answered in our 20's or 30's, what is life about and when do we really become "adults" ? My fingers wouldn't stop turning the pages and I was not disappointed. Thanks Judy !
