Rating: Summary: an insightful story about the bonds of friendship Review: This is a must read for any woman who has ever had a "summer friend". Judy Blume captures the heart of summer friendships and growing up - the bond between two girls that last a lifetime, through even pain and sadness.
Rating: Summary: Long on angst, short on substance. Review: Judy Blume is a consummate teen author, and should not have ventured into adult terrain. The most interesting parts of the book are when the 'sisters" are teenagers, it becomes trite and dull when they grow up. Although it appears to be a decent length book that is only because of the numerous pages devoted to one-two paragraph musings from some character. Not terrible, and for a lesser author, acceptable. However, Judy Blume is much better than this would have one beleive.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: I simply could not put this book down. It was amazing. :) Judy's best
Rating: Summary: This book is awesome Review: I read this book in three days. Not only did I laugh, but at the end I small tears in my eyes. I have to sisters and the context in this book only reminded me of the things that we share when we talk of our lives. All the characters in this book are different in their own way. Which makes it easy to identify them. This book has so many experiences a young adults face in our society today. I stronly recomend this book.
Rating: Summary: A simply wonderful book Review: It generally takes a lot for me to enjoy a book. This one caught me, I finished it and wanted to read it again. I highly recommend it. I love thought and thinking on life topics. There was a lot of this of stuff.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful story of friendship and love that is pure BLUME Review: Love this book!!! Had to wipe the sand off of every page. Could not put it down!!!! Loved the relationship between Vix and Caitlin (and everyone else that spent their time with them). Funny, sad (I cried), sexy, loving, just plain real!!! Took me back to the summers that I spent with my own "summer Sister"....what happy memories....I wish Judy Blume would write a book every day of her life,,,,, I would read each and every one.....carefully!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely fabulous, definently a book to pass on!!! Review: In this book Judy makes you think of your own childhood. I feel like I won't find another book I'll enjoy as much as Summer Sisters. Visiting the Vineyard one of these summers is definently a must.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, captivating novel about 2 girls growing up Review: This is one of those books that, after a couple of pages, I found my self wanting to read half of it the first day. By the time I go 3/4 of the way through the book, I found myself wanting to "go home and read" so I could find out what happens in the end. I wanted it to end differently, but overall, I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful, easy reading book for the summer Review: I loved Blume's books as a young teenager, and thought I'd give her new adult book a try. I'm glad I did! This novel is filled with emotion and nostalgia. You empathize with some characters and hate others. Almost every young girl wanted to be like Caitlin, making it easy to relate to Vix. I envied the Caitlins of the world as a teenager, however, this book makes you realize that even "perfect" girls are not so perfect. The shocking ending is the icing on the cake.
Rating: Summary: Summer Sisters is a good book for summer ! Review: I really enjoyed this book and the characters really jump out of the pages - I did not really get a "feel" of the 80's though because apart from excerpts of songs the mood isn't there in the story - However,I devoured the book in 3 days finishing it finally at 3 in the morning !
