Summary: It Appears As If....
Review: Hillary is not everything she appears to be. I remember her profuse gratitude to the Arkansas delagation in 1992. She waxed eloquently and fervently about the "absolutely wonderful and best people in the United States-all her fellow Arkansans." Next thing you know she was off and running for the Senate seat in New York. Well, so much for the wonderful Arkansans.

This book unmasks a Hillary Clinton many of us don't know, but are fast learning about. Like many others I wanted to believe the best about her, to really believe that she had more than myopic, self-serving ambition driving her political aspirations. Well, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see through the whole charade of her political life and this book shows in a succinct and concise way what the First Lady is TRULY about and that is nothing less than power at any cost. Very intriguing reading.

Summary: Hell Isn't Hot Enough for Hillary
Review: Barbara Olson has a mad on for Hillary Rodham Clinton, make no mistake about this.

The Hillary she reveals in "Hell To Pay" is equal parts Machiavellian schemer, Nixonian liar, and Faustian bargainer. From the earliest days of her existence, this is a woman who has pursued power with the same single-minded determination with which her husband pursues bimbos.

Unfortunately, her book does not include much that will be new to veteran Hillary-haters like myself (I can hear the Clintonista sycophants clicking on "Not helpful" now). Her transformation from lukewarm limousine liberal Republican to full-blown hippie harpy is well known (and fully documented with grotesque photos!), as is her odd relationship with her Oprahfied husband. Her lust for power and devious pursuit of the same is also familiar to those of us who would have taken to the streets like the Black Panthers of old had her socialist reconstruction of our health care system actually gone anywhere. Quite frankly, given her lot's penchant for using the federal government to destroy anyone who stands against their nutty ambitions and narcissistic schemes, there's not going to be any new information on the Lady Macbeth of Little Rock until Chelsea's book hits the stands decades hence.

While Olson's tome does raise a couple of interesting questions (whatever did happen to the baby Hillary claimed she and Bubba were looking to adopt during the '96 campaign anyway?), on the whole it is satisfying neither as screed, polemic, nor investigative journalism. It reveals neither why anyone believes a word this woman has to say on any subject nor why Americans buy into the Saint Hillary nonsense at the drop of a fresh-baked cookie. In the end, this is the only thing of interest in the tale of this modern-day Medusa.

Summary: I was disappointed...
Review: Let's face it, when readers evaluate books which address such hot-button topics as Hillary Clinton, they are rarely addressing the quality of the book itself, but rather whether or not they agree with the author's point of view, regardless of whether the book is well written or not. I mean how often does one hear: "I love and admire Hillary Clinton, but I really thought that this was a well written book!" Or the opposite: "I think Hillary is scum, but this book was lousy too!" Answers: almost never. ...

Moreover, because people rarely have middle-of-the road feelings about Hillary, that explains why there are very few reviews of this book that are not 1 or 5 stars. As I said, people aren't reviewing the book per se, they're opining on Hillary.

Having said that, let me make make myself a slight exception to what I just said.... While not perhaps a rabid Hillary-hater, I am at least a severe Hillary skeptic, and was receptive to a book which could crystallize some of my negative feelings. And yet, I was disappointed with the book.

I should have been tipped off by the unfairly unflattering cover photograph of Hillary. I was further made suspect by the fact that the only blurb on the back was from Rush Limbaugh, as if to say: "If you're a dittohead, this book is for you!" (For the record, I consider myself a conservative Republican, but not one who aligns himself with Pat Robertson, the NRA, Rush Limbaugh or Pat Buchanan. I wonder if that's a contradiction?)

While I have generally been impressed by Ms. Olson's commentary on her many TV appearances, this book just seemed to have a tabloid feel to it. In addition, many of the damning observations came not from disinterested third parties but from Ms. Olson herself. Also, there was nothing really new in the book--just a re-telling of well-known stories. As a contrasting example of a scholarly "trashing" of someone that I found to be far more persuasive (albeit a bit old now), read David Brock's "The Real Anita Hill."

Summary: For Those Who Can Accept The Truth
Review: Barbara Olsen puts into chronological order things most of us have read over the past eight years. She does so beautifully without preaching. As a lawyer she gives you a more than clear-cut view of one of the most self-centered, sociopath and dangerous women of the 20-21st century. The moniker of brilliant has been given to Hillary. I maintain she is a cunning survivor, much like a hunter and she is very hungry. This is a must read no matter where you stand on who and what she is.

Summary: Hell to Pay
Review: The book The author does a masterful job of pointing out howthe Clintons gather their forces and develop strategy to overcome allthe misdeeds they have been involved in until the public ends up forgetting about it or downplaying it. In addition she convincingly points out how Hillary, as the architect of most of the manipulations, will use every issue, minority group, or organization to obtain power even though caring little for them. Every potential voter in New York should read this before November 2000.

Summary: A Woman Scorned ...
Review: Much information compiled in this book confirms earlier reports about Ms. Clinton from other sources. I do wish that the dust jacket had a less dreadful photograph of Ms. Clinton. She looks quite out of place wearing those 1950's matronly earrings, fake pearl necklace and broach. I would like to leave this book in the employee's lunch room - but I'm afraid the cover would turn off potential readers. If I was the art editor I would have tried to present a more neutral portrait of Ms. Clinton. The writer's use of Saul Alinsky's quotations was quite effective. As Ms. Clinton's mentor, Saul Alinsky, wrote, "Ethical standards must be elastic to stretch with the times."

Summary: Hillary the phony
Review: This is a well written, and well researched book that exposes the "real" Hillary and what she really wants. The carpetbagger running for the Senate has only one thing on her mind. To become the first woman president (no chance), and bring on the New World Order.

Hillary Clinton is an opportunist, and the liberals just can't seem to accept the truth. The scandal right now about her abuses with the "Air Hillary" incident bring about her true colors. Granted she need the security...that's fine. But REIMBURSE the taxpayer.

Summary: Hell of a Book
Review: This book is excellently documented, and perhaps the most important of all the Clinton "biographies". Olson refrains from the anti-Clinton hysteria found in some, but never resorts to going-soft and crediting the excuses and counter-attacks that are the trademark of the Clinton defense. Olson has put the real Hillary on naked, illuminated display. Do not be put off by the (unfortunately) sloppy editing - the book is shot through with careless phrasing and missing modifiers. It is absolutely wothy of a better edition.

Summary: A Perfect Match for he Husband
Review: An old adage says that opposites attract, but that was not the case with the Clintons. When it comes to amorality, dishonesty, and covering their tracks Bill and Hillary are mirror images of each other. In "Hell to Pay" Barbara Jordan outlines a plethora of disreputable events that have Hillary's fingerprints on them. Some are very well known-the Travel Office Mess, the White Water Fiasco, and the sell-out of the Lincoln Bedroom--while others have garnered scant media attention at best.

The author cleverly begins each chapter with a quote from "Rules for Radicals" by Hillary's former mentor Sail Alinsky. These disturbed vagaries help reveal what eldritch plans are being hatched in Hillary's brain.

Barbara Olson is one of the first people to so clearly point out what may be the Clintons most despicable defense tactic. With the help of their sycophantic epigones they brazenly traduce the memories of previous presidents, and these wide-spread smear campaigns apply not only to the likes of Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon, but extend to Franklin Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington. By treating the most preposterous rumors as apodictic pronouncements and citing the flimsiest of evidence, Clintonites mounted a full scale assault to drag Jefferson's memory down to the level of Bill. A horrendous step taken solely to help salvage his meretricious presidency. When writing an expose of either Clinton, it is tempting to explore, speculate, and conjecture about their separate and mutual sex lives, but beyond the titillatingly obvious, there is a mountain of other scandals that warrant extensive investigating. The author does touch on the Juanita Broderick allegation and includes that now often repeated story that Hillary approached the victim shortly after her encounter with Bill. Since that case has never been denied (or confirmed) by either Clinton, it is a question every New York journalist and more importantly every New York voter should ask the senatorial candidate at every opportunity until it receives a full, straight, non-clintonian reply.

Review: This is a well written, carefully researched, well documented expose of the First Lady - she is one scary individual. Every American should read this book and BEWARE.
