Rating: Summary: View of a tragedy Review: It was interesting to read the story behind the headlines. I thought that there was a little too much detail on especially her life history but it did help show who Todd Beamer, the person, really was. I was also pregnant with a little girl due a week before theirs' and I just can't imagine losing my husband during such a critical time. I groan when I have to put my two to bed alone if my husband is working late. She has to do it every night, with three, for the forseeable future. If you're not Christian, you'll find the constant references to God a little tiring. It's forgivable if a young widow finds comfort in her faith, I wont judge that, but she does come off sometimes as a little holier than thou, especially when comparing her grief to that of others. I had coworkers on this flight and it's intended destination is my hometown so I feel close to this tragedy. I did prefer reading 'Among the Heros' but I appreciate her personal account of just one of the people who shouldn't have died that day. As a book, it reads quickly, once you get past all the family stuff in the first few chapters. She should have just focused on her own father's death, important to how she handled losing the other man in her life later on. The book didn't inspire me to convert but I appreciated understanding how a Christian copes with such a brutal, senseless event. I hope only good things are in store for her in the future!
Rating: Summary: Is This Horror and Heroism Already Forgotten? Review: This book is very timely, if only because so many Americans seem to have already forgotten that infamous day of terror that occurred only a year and a half ago. This book combines personal details, the Christian testimony of the Beamers, and what may have occurred on the doomed plane. Some details remain unanswered. For instance, were the throats of the two pilots cut (referring to the two apparently-dead persons on the floor)? If so, then the plane was doomed even if the passengers' revolt against the terrorists had been successful. The fact that the pilots had been earlier warned against "cockpit intrusion", referring to the hijacked planes which were crashed into the World Trade Center, warns us that, even with forewarning, the suicidal hijacking of US airliners could happen again.
Rating: Summary: The book is just the beginning... Review: We've got a potential franchise here folks. What about "Let's Roll: The Movie"? Maybe some Todd and Lisa action figures. Hey, she needs to make the most of her 15 minutes of fame. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
Rating: Summary: An Extraordinary and Courageous woman! Review: I cannot begin to imagine what Lisa went through and held my breath when the news reports of her (pregnant!)taking the same flight (Todd had taken) about a month after 9/11. She is truly an inspiration to not only the widows who lost their mates that terrible day, but also to women everywhere. I only hope this therapeutic journalising has brought her and her family much-needed solace.
Rating: Summary: Complete Faith in God Review: I read this book not for the 9/11 significance, but for inspiration. I had seen Lisa Beamer do several TV interviews, where it was clear that she and Todd had strong faith in God. So I wanted to know more about them and selfishly learn something from them to strengthen my own faith. Let's Roll did all that and more. Their lives were -- and are -- centered around God, church, and family. If you're looking for inspirational reading, get this book!
Rating: Summary: Touching and memorable Review: This is one of the best books that I have read in a while. Basically, the book deals with the earlier lives of both Todd and Lisa Beamer, what type of childhood they had, their campus involvement and the spiritual environment in which they grew up in. I felt that this is part of the book is very important because it will influence Lisa after the September 11 disaster which took away her husband. Lisa's faith in God was strengthened and relied heavily on God that He has plans for her and Todd. Most people would have been mad, grief-stricken and might not even function but Lisa overcomes these feelings by trusting God. In addition, the book also provides insight into the lives of those who are forever transformed because of 9/11. More important is the insights on the passengers of Flight 93 leaving Newark which was hijacked and crashed in Pennslyvania. The flight was believed to be heading towards Washington and the Lisa provides crucial information that she puts together which shows that the passengers sabotaged the hijackers' intention of heading towards Washington. I really like this book because I feel that it has strengthen my faith in God and not to doubt Him but just surrender myself to Him. In addition, the love between Lisa and Todd is very strong and sincere and at times, I feel that I really know them personally. It is written beautifully, and do not attempt to be too philosophical but deep enough that will cause you to think about life in general. More important, it also makes us realize that we are not, for the most part, in control of things that happen, but we are, as Lisa puts it, in control of our actions. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn more about love, life and faith.
Rating: Summary: A Moving Tribute Review: Lisa Beamer, widow of 9-11 hero Todd Beamer, gives us a look at her husband's life. From birth to adulthood,we learn how Todd was raised, how the 2 met.up to his death. We also see how Lisa has dealt with her loss;how she lost and found her faith ing God to how she told her 2 sons about the plane crash. This is a warm tribute to a hero, but it also allows us to see him as a boy, ambitious student, husband and father,If you pick up this book, you won't be able to put it daow,I like it for ALL these reasons.
Rating: Summary: Just a couple of things to consider... Review: 1. It is possible that the Pentagon ordered Flight 93 to be shot down and it could very well have been. People reported seeing the plane come down in fiery chunks. If they ever acknowledge this, "Let's Roll!" is going to become as trite as "Where's the beef?" and you'll want to hide this book in the closet somewhere. 2. Look who's on the cover of the book. Hey it's not Todd Beamer. It's, hey, it's Lisa! Do you think she's trying to cash in on what presumably happened on 9-11? Nyah. ;-)
Rating: Summary: A REAL AMERICAN HEROOOO...! Review: I'm wearing my "LET'S ROLL!" t-shirt now (only ____ dollars) and I've got my "LET'S ROLL!" hat (only ____ dollars) and my copy of "LET'S ROLL!" Who cares if we know NOTHING about what Todd Beamer did on that plane? He could have made a run for the head while other people wrestled with the terrorists! It doesn't really matter, does it? The proceeds from this book (and Lisa's public appearances and media interviews, etc.) will all go to help her children go to college, right? BONUS: It's been revealed recently that it was the terrorists who CHOSE to crash the plane into that field because the passengers were pestering them. Nobody actually overpowered the terrorists or took control of the airplane. Not even for a moment. Todd could have been cowering in a corner for all we know. So much for this book.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I was EXTREMELY pleased with this book. I had been wanting this book for a while and my mother gave it to me as a Christmas present. As a Christian, it was a wonderful, tearjerking, eye-opening experience to read this work of art. Lisa Beamer does an excellent job of conveying what she went through in order to survive this American tragedy. I would definitely recommend this book for others to read!
