Rating: Summary: HDWK - How do we know? Review: This book depicts events that are still yet to be proven true (or false). Whether or not the passengers of Flight 93 brought the plane down themselves, their bravery and legacy will not be diminished. However, the government is not releasing the cockpit voice recording. Also the Pentagon will not confirm nor deny that Flight 93 was shot down. Eyewitness accounts in PA state tht the plane fell to the ground in several pieces and in flames. You be the judge. Until this is proven true, I cannot accept it as truth.
Rating: Summary: Shame on you who question Lisa's motives! Review: Anyone who sees this book as a vehicle for Lisa to hoist herself up on a pedestal misses the point of the book. She makes it perfectly clear from whom all her strength is given. God is given the credit for preparing her and sustaining her through this tragedy. She is candid with her weaknesses and clings to Him for her strength. She also makes a point to name every passenger who was on that plane; and she gives other key people credit for their part in the fight against the hijackers. I admire her for choosing hope instead of hopelessness, victory instead of defeat, love instead of hate.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Faith Review: When I began this book, my first reaction was "Oh no, another story written by a non-author". I had just finished trying to get through Lance Armstrong's book! However, I was pleasantly surprised by her candor, humility, and emotional strength. The details of the Flight 93 experience were new and refreshing. Her experience as a surviving spouse would be an encouragement to anyone grieving the loss of a loved one. I never realized how many times she was called on to share her experience and the dignity with which she did that. She was an inspiration to me and a credit to her husband's courage and memory. I loved it!
Rating: Summary: Incredible Testimony and Witness for Jesus Christ! Review: For those who are just coming to this area of reviews, I must remind them that this is a story of faith, courage, and hope, and for those who don't come to see this book as that, but just as some kind of "crass exploitation," I am sorry for you, and maybe this isn't the kind of book you should read, but then again...there is always hope, isn't there.Lisa Beamer, the widow of the September 11th hero, Todd Beamer, has written about her faith, her husband, and the terrorist attacks. She has not only written an honest, inspiring book about her life before 9/11, but also the impact it has had on her left after the fact. What seems to bother her the most are the critics, and there are many of them, surprisingly so. Yes, she has a trust in God, even in a time of hard circumstances, but she knows that He is in control of all things. Christians should take comfort in her saying "yes" to God's goodness, even when it seems that death's dark door is just around the corner. This is a powerful book for not only Christians, but seekers alike, and I would highly recommend it, even when faced with the fact that there are critics. Just because the majority thinks one way, just doesn't make it right. Perhaps this book will help"seekers" see something, but more than that, I trust that through the witness of Lisa Beamer, other Christians will be edified and the name of Christ will be glorified...
Rating: Summary: An amazing story. Review: Everybody knows Todd Beamer's last words: Let's roll. Since the September 11th attacks, those words have become somewhat of an American slogan and he has been named a hero for fighting back against the terrorists aboard United Flight 93. Todd's brave widow, Lisa, has written a very compelling book, giving you the chance to see what the man behind "Let's roll" was like. The first chapter opens up on the morning of 9/11 and then the rest tells about Todd and Lisa's lives, how they met, their life together, their children, etc. Lisa also shares family photos with the reader. It is so obvious that these two meant the world to each other and cared deeply about their family and their relationship with God. Anybody who believes Lisa Beamer is trying to cash in on this tragedy is sorely wrong. It's clear by reading this book that she wants no publicity, just the opportunity to share her husband's story. I was especially moved by the part in the book where Lisa says "that this world is only the preparation for an eternity of joy beyond compare in heaven." "Let's Roll! Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage" is an intriguing book that will have you smiling and will bring tears to your eyes that Todd Beamer's life was cut short, along with thousands more.
Rating: Summary: Let's Roll! Review: This isn't great literature; instead, it's a great human interest story. Lisa's dignity, courage and faith shine through one of the darkest times in our nation's recent history. I didn't find her beliefs offensive as some reviewers apparently did but rather comforting and heartwarming. The story of Lisa and Todd Beamer truly showed me that courage, faith and love can help us overcome even the worst tragedies. An inspiring book in my opinion!
Rating: Summary: As a Flight Attendant ... Review: As a Flight Attendant for one of the 4 largest airlines in the World, I didn't want to read Lisa Beamer's book. I didn't want to remember the cold fear I felt on the morning of September 11th. I didn't want to be reminded that my "office" had been used as a weapon of Mass Destruction. But, yesterday for my flight to Jet Recurrent Training... I needed something to read on the airplane --- and there in the airport bookstore, was "Let's Roll", so I thumbed through, and found what I read compelling. Then once on the airplane, I couldn't stop reading the book and even after we landed, I sat in the airport and read and almost missed training. I couldn't put the book down. What a love story, and a story of a women who was put in her situation "for such a time as this". I found myself loving Lisa, and praying for her. As an author, I would also like to say this book is well written. I know how much effort it takes to make it look like it took no effort at all. Ken Abraham is also to be commended for his contribution. Overall, you won't be able to put this book down.
Rating: Summary: Inspiring Witness to the Living Hope Review: What the Apostle Peter wrote "according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope" (1 Peter 1:2) is one apt description of this fine remembrance of Todd and Lisa Beamer, but more important to Lisa, their living hope, Jesus Christ. What a terrific job she does confessing their faith in Christ and how it has been her tower of strength not just in the loss of Todd, but throughout her life. Of the very intimate and deep emotions shared of their lives, especially touching was her search for the right words to tell their young son, David, of Todd's death. Then, the childlike faith that professes when David's aunt and uncle come to visit and ask David: And is this your mommy and daddy's room? To which he answered, "No, just mom's now. Dad's gone." God's plan of salvation being worked out, as evidenced by this event and Lisa's witness to God's working in ways beyond our understanding, e.g. the phone lines being extremely unreliable after 9-11, but the GTE Skylink with Todd being allowed to continue. Just the right amount of balance between background info on them, and then on events of the flight, and aftermath. Mature beyond her years in faith, Lisa as well as her deceased husband are put forward as great role-model for the young women of our world...
Rating: Summary: shameless explotation Review: this book nearly made me pysically ill. This women has thrust herself into the national spotlight, not to mourn her husband or give hope through, but to expoit her husbands death, raise herself to near divine status, and make money for the vaugely defined Tom Beamer Foundation, by pandering to ultra conservative quasi-Christians. This book is a truely hideous bit of poorly written, self aggrandizing tripe, full of mindless and ignorant preaching about strength and hope. This book serves no purpose outside of playing on knee jerk, band wagon patriotism and blind faith. Oh, how comforting it is that Lisa is gaining strength because she's "saved". Yippee...so 3000+ people died terrible deaths, and so many others families have been thrown into turmoil because of September 11th 2001, but Lisa has faith, so everything is fine! This book is nothing more than yet another sickening example of the level to which people are wiling to distort reality to fit thier own personal world view and paradigms. Worse yet, its another example of a true tragedy being explioted and distorted, for the sake of comforting confused and shallow Americans, willing to spend thier money to get a quick dose of false hope from the martha stewart of September 11th widows, Lisa Beamer
Rating: Summary: Beyond human strength Review: Not many people after 9/11 wanted to be reminded of the pain and hurt they experienced at that time. That is how I felt when I saw the book out in stores. I never would have bought it on my own. A friend gave it to me for my birthday and I have to say it's probably one of the best birthday presents I've ever received. The one ongoing theme in the book was hope! Lisa never pretended to be strong beyond what she was humanly capable. She was very open with the times she crumbled and how she rose above the sorrow for her children. She gave all the praise and glory to God. She showed us how "regular" people can make it thru the worst of times. I believe that she showed us that through life's experiences, no matter how tragic or how small they are, God is our hope, no matter what the circumstance. Thank you Lisa, for sharing your faith and reminding us of the hope we have in God.
