Summary: I call 'em like I see 'em...
Review: Excellent reading (unless you're a flaming liberal). You might also like Anti-Americanism by Jean Fracois Revel.

Summary: Please do not judge this book based on your beliefs
Review: Please do not judge this book based on your political ideology. Several of the poor ratings contrast the book with their own ploitcal beliefs. The book's subject can certainly be assumed by the title, and if you think France and Saudi Arabia are great countries; then you should write a book about it. Although I do not agree 100% with the text, I do think it is concise, well-written, and a fair analysis.

Summary: Entertaining But Do Not Take Seriously
Review: I did not buy this book but I did see enough of it to write a review. It is a bit like one of Hannity's books. If you really like the guy, well then fine buy the book.

But the author is not an expert and he does not have the time to do in depth research and analysis. I put together a "listmania" list of 25 books that when taken together give a balanced view of the situation.

The problem is not liberal or conservative. It is a combination of problems including disparities in wealth and education (and freedom) between rich western countries and poor Muslim countries, and problems with US policies, and problems with the CIA and FBI, and on and on. And oh yes it is also related to countries such as Iran that have used oil income to support terrorists in Israel, Iraq, and elsewhere and these Muslims have no idea how to solve their own problems without the use of force and terrorists.

My humble opinion.

Summary: NEOCON NONSENSE
Review: I want to begin by stating I am strongly INDEPENDENT in my political views and have always voted for who I thought was the best candidate. I reviewed this book and can only say its garbage. More of the same tired old NEOCON thesis about how the rest of this world and liberals hate this country and everything it stands for and want to bring it down. Conservatives are reasonable God fearing patriots who love their country and will do anything to defend it. What nonsense. Tell that to the families of dead liberal American soldiers who fought in Iraq. I'm sure there must have been at least two. You get this same diatribe from the full spectrum of NEOCONS whether it be from smoothies like Gibson and Tony Snow, to deceivers like O'Leilly and Ingraham to bomb throwers like Hannity and Savage Weiner. I swear this is a cottage industry and these jokers are making a fortune with this tired old line. I expect a book from Tony Snow any day now. The truth is these people are NOT true conservatives. True conservatives firmly believe in less government, NOT intervening in foreign affairs and wars, no national debt for ANY reason, etc. etc. But because their boy in the White House has strayed so far from bed rock conservatism the NEOCONS have had to use a different line: 9-11 changed everything. What baloney. True conservatives would shore up our home defenses and back off from intervention, tighten security at home, close off our borders, and develop and expand business within our own borders. These NEOCONS are are an embarassment to true conservatives. "Conservative" is just a convenient term NEOCONS use so they can bash or argue against anything they disagree with, and of course brand it "the rest of the world", "evildoers" or "liberal" Makes good fodder for talk radio and the Faux News Channel. According to NEOCONS, and rampant throughout this book, the world hates, fears, and is envious of us because of our freedoms and superpower status. What? Run that by me again. Must be because we are so good and they are so evil. I was hoping with this book I would get a fresh truely conservative view. All I got was more NEOCON claptrap. I'm returning my copy and my search will continue.

Summary: Precisely What's Wrong with America
Review: The arrogant self-righteousness of this book is precisely 1). The reason so many countries hate the US; and 2). The reason we have the problems we have today. This is simply the nativist chest beatings of an intolerant and not very well informed observer, out to make money with a simplistic and downright silly argument. Don't contribute to the author's income by buying this laughably unsophisticated and crass book. It is not even worthy of one star.

Summary: John Gibson is 100% correct!
Review: The global movement towards appeasement of dictators and terrorists has gone rampant! (...) Mr. Gibson so clearly points out that the USA is blamed for so many ills in the world by liberals in the USA iteself and many in other countries, much like a child would blame a parent for if it fell and skinned his knee. It is something that comes with the territory whether we like it or not. Even the appeaser Clinton was hated by most worldwide as well, just not as much as Bush as Bush has core values and makes national security decisions based on the "USA" and not the "WORLD" and "THE WORLD" doesn't like that! They "FEAR", are "ENVIOUS" and are "JEALOUS" of the freedom and superpower status the USA has! Great job John!

Summary: He proves it........
Review: I watch John Gibson most days. I have looked over his book, but not read it through, yet. However, I have heard him speak about it, and I feel the ugly Brit, "Clarification is required, July 7, 2004 Reviewer: A reader (UK)", below, who was too cowardly to give his name and location, other than "UK" shows what the free world is up against. He is too ignorant to know that the terrorists hate him, too, and I don't blame them. I just wish we hadn't saved his parents in WWII, then we wouldn't have to listen to his ignorance. However, I don't hate Brits because I know they are not all this stupid.
Read the book and give Mr. Gibson a chance. Even if he is not 100% accurate, he is close enough, as this Brit has shown.

Summary: Excellent non-partisan book, must read for all
Review: First I would like to say that the book is great. John Gibson is clearly as talented a journalist as he is a writer. If you find yourself thinking , "why does everyone hate America?", this book has all the answers. Believe me, the hatred of America by the rest of the world, especially among our 'friends' stems far before the Iraq War and the War on Terror, as Gibson clearly lays out.

And to 'a reader in Seattle (first review at current time of posting)', why don't you READ the book, before you give a hatchet review of it?

It's funny, but imagine the differences in the world if everyone who spent their time condemning America, condemned terrorism instead.

Summary: As "balanced" as anything Fox
Review: What I find most disturbing is that people who subscribe to a screed such as this call themselves conservative!

There is a tendency today of many ostensible "conservatives" to call anyone critical of anything the US does as "Anti-American," an enemy of the state, in essence. And that's only some of the more civilized terminology! It's stuff Joe Stalin got away with a few years back. They are just as conservative as he!

Of course, 9/11 gave that faction all the more fuel. You have the lunatic fringe (Horowitz, Coulter, et al) accusing anyone on the "left" of being not only anti-American, but in line with the terrorists. It must make them feel good about themselves, and great about dividing the country.

Anyway, Gibson uses 9/11 as a channel to spout his Stalinist doctrine. Of course, if one challenges that, noting, for example, our funding of Osama bin Laden and his Al Qaida lieutenants (of whom that antagonist of the Right, Naom Chomsky was warning us a decade before 9/11!) or of desecrating land with US troops that are seen as sacred to Muslims, we are just MORE anti-American, right? How convenient.

Yeah, just like anything you see on the Fox network, something that would, in an atmosphere of balance, lose its license to broadcast.

If you think I'm exaggerating, look at some of the other reviews here. My word, they surpass McCarthyism (and McCarthy was one whom Horowitz loved. So, obviously, does Gibson.) And that in itself is pathetic.

Interesting that I find many a pseudo-conservative today using words like "facts," "honesty," and other attributes we think we credit. But then they read and praise stuff like this? Then those terms to which I referred are mere buzzwords, of no substance at all. And that truly saddens me.

Summary: A REDNECK BOOK
Review: It seems that the foaming-at-the-mouth rednecks like this book. They like to be told that their fascist-leaning government is bombing and killing thousands of people half way around the world "because they don't like us". They pretend to be Christians and followers of the principle of "Love thy neighbor as thyself", but, in reality, they much prefer to incarcerate people in Guantanamo Bay and torture them.

They like to be told by warmongering and delusionary ideologues of Gibson's stripe that it was good for George W. Bush to invade a sovereign country (under totally false pretenses) and that, notwithstanding the Nuremberg Trials (ever heard of them?), wars of aggression are acceptable, provided "they don't like us"!-- May I remind them and Gibson that the German Nazis were also blind "patriots" who approved of their country invading other countries, and here is what the U.S. government had to tell them at the Nuremberg Trials:

"We must make clear to the Germans that the wrong for which their fallen leaders are on trial is not that they lost the war, but that they started it. And we must not allow ourselves to be drawn into a trial of the causes of the war, for our position is that no grievances or policies will justify resort to aggressive war. It is utterly renounced and condemned as an instrument of policy."
(Robert L. Jackson, Chief U.S. Prosecutor at the Nuremberg Trials, 1945)

And, closer to home, may I also remind them of the 1996 U.S. War Crimes Act that says: "Whoever, whether inside or outside the United States, commits a war crime, in any of the circumstances described in subsection (b), shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for life or any term of years, or both, and if death results to the victim, shall also be subject to the penalty of death."

It is morally easy, from far away, to condone the killing and maiming of tens of thousands of Iraqis because "they don't like us", and send 150,000 troops, ships and planes, to shoot down women and children in the streets, blow up Iraqi' homes, hospitals and mosques, and destroy an entire country, again under totally falses pretenses. If you consider that is "civilization", count me out. It is no wonder that the neocon Bush administration was opposed to the creation of an International Criminal Court. They should however be reminded that civilization begins with the rule of law, not with lawlessness.

All things considered, this is a very bad book, destined to justify an illegal war of aggression. It is part of the operation of indoctrination that the talking heads at Fox News have been carrying on for quite some time in favor of imperialistic aggressive wars. No reader can escape some responsibility in the operation, however. - Anybody who likes this book and voted for Bush in 2004 should look in the mirror and ask "Am I a war criminal by association?"
