Summary: Informative
Review: As a non-liberal, non-conservative American, it allows the normal non-extremist citizen the opportunity to see the world through different eyes. I can only say to those nay-sayers of this book, if one of them has ever been to the countries they speak of, perhaps they would be more informed in there opinion before posting it on this forum. I myself see Europe as a controlled populus benefitting from American presence but at the same time establishing a "norm" for hating us. As history repeats itself, jealosy begets hatred. Europe (and Canada) can not tolerate a nation more successful than their own, so they must belittle it. We so much freedom over here that we have a right to read about how bad we are. Anyone who has been to Europe or Canada should know they do not have a constitution that enables freedom of speech, only directives from their respective legislatures "allowing it", and "censorship" is not a newsworthy item because that topic is censored! This book does not deserve the criticism it receives here because it is an example of why we should be proud of ourselves, as Americans, and say to hell with a world bent on repeating the history we saved them from.

Summary: I just had to respond
Review: This book is simply another U.S. jingoist view of the world. It claims that consumers and the viewers of media are sponges who cannot think for themselves. Individuals form their own opinions, and if they hate America, yes, undoubtedly their media has shown a biased opinion of us, like our media does every single day, but they still see the effects of our imperialism in their own lives and form opinions from that. This book uses the antiquated idea of barbarianism, that those in other countries, especially countries that do not speak english, are obviously less intelligent than people here and are simply ignorant masses waiting to be told how to think. Any educated American who thinks that is the ignorant one.
Also, I can not help but respond to that last review, by the right-winged Californian. FRANCE wouldn't be here if not for the U.S.? What about where we would be if not for France? Take a history class.

Summary: Leftists, read this book before spewing your ignorance
Review: The leftists reviews of this book should be an indication of just how good the book is. These clowns keep putting negative reviews on all books by conservatives all over the net.
A suggestion: Just sit and read the book while you watch the news channels. If you can't see what's happening with France, Germany, Russia, Spain, some of the Latin American countries, etc., and see that the news is like reading this book, then you are not smart enough to be reading this book. America has few friends. Some of our worst "friends", like France, would not be in existence as a country today if it were not for the U.S. But, gratitude is a rare thing in today's socialist, communist European countries. READ the book, and learn.

Summary: Just What America Needs
Review: Yet another book by a pretentious, out of touch right winger with no semblance of thought or analytical ability writing a disingenuous book that distorts the truth and has an overwhelming sense of self-pity. In line with the Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly line of thinking: "you either like George W. Bush, or you hate America." Drivel. And this moron looks like Christopher Walken's character from "A View to a Kill." Where does FOX News find these people?

Summary: for better or worse, this book makes you hate the world
Review: I almost always agree with Gibson's opinions on his FOX News "Big Story", but what Gibson does so consistently, on-air and in his new book, is engage in high-minded theorectical frictionless world babble and never makes a point. Now, all fox-watchers will agree with what he says. Others will watch something else. I'm just happy to have another O'Reilly and Limbaugh clone on TV to reaffirm what I belive.

As for the mudslinging in these reviews, I must say that I was in New York on 9/11, so my opinion means more than yours. I've heard "America is the greatest country on earth" over and over for the past 20 years, in small towns, from foreigners, etc, etc. What makes me thankful are the immigrants (and second generation, etc.) that I've met who are now in the States and now have the opportunity to say x, y, z for/against and it's their right and a right most of them were free to excercise in their homelands. Although there was that Pakistani guy in my neighborhood who said something bad about Bush and also bought a copy of the Koran at the Borders and then got shipped out to the Guantanamo prison and noone has heard from him in 2 years. But other than that, these foreigners should appreciate the great free expression we have. Except for that other Jordanian guy in my complex who took a photo near the water tank, and then got detained for 2 years. Anyway, for all those who read the book and can't accept that America is the greatest country in the world, remember---there are many innocent "detainees" out there who don't get the opportunity to discuss, debate, and think about world, social, cultural, religious issues. And if you can't accept the facts Gibson presents, you haven't accepted the fact that the world is changing (whether you like it or not), and it's not one happy conservative-minded utopia where we all hold bibles and listen to FOX.

Summary: For better or for worse, this book challenges you to think
Review: I may not always agree with Gibson's opinions on his FOX News "Big Story" (or agree with the opinions of his colleagues), but what Gibson does so consistently, on-air and in his new book, is cut through the high-minded theorectical frictionless world babble and make a point. Now, some folks won't agree with what he says. Others will chant his name in celebration. I'm just happy he's bold enough to get his words on paper for the rest of us to think, debate, argue, and ponder.

As for the mudslinging that's started on these reviews, my only comments from a personal perspective is that yes, I was in Manhattan for 9/11, and yes, I was walking down 6th Ave. when it all happened. I've heard enough America-trashing over the past 20 years, on the East Coast, on the West Coast, in big towns, and in small towns, from foreigners and U.S. citizens. What makes me thankful are the immigrants (and second generation, etc.) that I've met who are now in the States and now have the opportunity to say x, y, z for/against and it's their right and a right they've never had before.

For all those who read the book and can't accept that the America-bashing is happening or without reason, remember---there are many people out there who don't get the opportunity to discuss, debate, and think about world, social, cultural, religious issues. And if you can't accept the facts Gibson presents, you haven't accepted the fact that the world is changing (whether you like it or not), and it's not one happy liberal-minded utopia where we all hold hands and sing.

Summary: "Hating the World: America's New Sport" is excellent
Review: MSNBC chatterbox Gibson does an excellent job recounting first-hand the countless examples of how American cable-tv commentators promote a hate-filled view of the world. Gibson passionately and convincingly posits that post-9/11 American cable tv has become a 24 hour babblefest of anti-immigrant, anti-Islamic, anti-Arab, anti-French, anti-German, yakkety-yakkety-yak. Although Gibson himself was one of the original chatterboxes (he was a holdover from the hugely successful O.J. Simpson and Lewinsky babble-fests) he has had noticeably less airtime than in previous years. As Gibson explains in this excellent, excellent book, the airwaves are crammed with "embedded" commentator clones, who all spew the same pro-war, anti-liberal hoo-hah all day, and unfortunately for Gibson, his star has been slowly fading, as Hannity, O'Reilly, Savage, Dennis Miller take over the babble-shows. But, at least now he has the time to put his great literary skills to work and maybe he can consider those offers to be an advertising spokesman from the embalming fluid companies.

Summary: Ought to called, "America's Paranoia of the World".
Review: Germany, France and Russia have always been cordial to American White House officials visiting their countries. I don't see the hate except for extremist Islamic elements.

Getting flak from world leaders does NOT mean they hate America.

Summary: WE ARE THE GOOD GUYS
Review: This book, which I reviewed at Borders this weekend, is absolutely pitiful. We are hated by the rest of the world for a reason, or many reasons. Hate doesn't exist in a vaccuum. John could have written a much more sensible book if he would have investigated the REASONS we are hated. And possibly explored ways to correct that hatred. Instead, its much easier to paint the world as good and bad, hate and love, and naturally we are the good guys. What else can one expect from a member of the FAUX NEWS TEAM? Certainly not intellectual honesty. I'm surprised these clowns don't wear white hats while on the air. I guess thats coming. My advice is, don't waste your hard earned money on this garbage.

Summary: USA not perfect but the best in the world
Review: This book reflects exactly what I was suspecting for a long time. America is the best country on Earth and the reaming world just cannot take it. We have saved the world from Fascism, Japanese imperialism, communism and now are trying to save it from the extreme Islam and terrorism. That is enough for the whole world to be thankthfull to the America for the centuries to come. They can't take that they own their entire existence to USA. Shame to all of them and thanks to Mr. John Gibson for delivering this message.
