Summary: Propaganda--BUT WORTH IT
Review: Some may say of John gibson's new book "Hating America" that it is more right wing bile from those who support "Cowboy" Bush. In one way they're right--BUT FOR THE MOST PART THEY ARE WRONG!!! I am a conservative myself--a reformed liberal who went to a college that taugh me how to hate America and the systems she has and what they stand for. But ten years ago, while I was undergoing surgery to remove my appendix of all times--things changed in me. From graduation to right now, I have changed and 9/11/01 put everything in 30 slabs of cement!

Reading Gibby's story about his friend surviving the attacks was an eye-opening way to get things started. And to those who hate on this book--I'LL GLADLY PAY FOR YOUR TICKETS TO CUBA, CHINA, INDONESIA, AFGHANISTAN OR ANY OTHER COUNTRY THAT DARES TO HATE US!!!

WHY ARE WE SO HATED--ONE WORD SOME OF YOU LIBERALS CAN'T AND WILL NEVER, EVER, EVER UNDERSTAND--FREEDOM!!!!!

I would recommend this book for a political class or journalism--in addition to a healthy diet from Fox News Channel--but to me that would be wishful thinking!!!

Thank You John--and I'll continue to watch "Big Story" and FNC!

Summary: I was blind, now I can see.....
Review: As a foreign individual who has lived, worked and studied in America and who still boasts many American friends and colleagues both here in Europeland and Stateside, I thought of myself as an active America-phile with a deep interest in American politics and culture.

After reading Hating America: the New World Sport, I now realise that I am a foul, despicable hate-filled cesspit of jealousy, seething with fear, covetousness and envy. I also realise that I am daily compelled by a hateful, envious press and media (with the notable exception of titles owned by that scion of decency Rupert Murdoch) to 'Hate America' as a sport.

I initially wept, and then rang all my American friends offering profuse apologies and urging them to never travel abroad ever again as apparently everyone everywhere hated them (including me, even though I never realized it)! Most asked why I was phoning at 3.00am, and then told me to go forth and self-procreate, although most chose different words to express this idea.

John Gibson's strength as a journalist (both in this book and on his Fox News show The Bog Story with John Gibson) is that he dispenses with all the high-falutin', irritating old-style journalistic principles such as research, accuracy, integrity and ethics. Without these, and often without a cogent thesis, direction or regard for his own appearance, John delivers the news like a runaway express train carrying explosives hitting a bus full of school children on a railway crossing. If only we had Fox News in our nominally developed country!

John's broadcast style and book reminds me wonderfully of William Joyce, that canonic broadcast journalist of an earlier, less genteel age. We can only hope that John's career goes as well as that of Mr Joyce!

On a personal level, I am a diminutive man of hunched stature with leathery skin, bad hair, halitosis, dermatitis, zero social skills and a shriveled, dysfunctional appendage, and consequently have enjoyed little success in relationships with women. Seeing John anchoring his very own prime-time news show, I am constantly inspired and reminded that I too can overcome my debilitating conditions to achieve success.

Keep it up, John (if you'll pardon the expression)!

Summary: Let's Bash The French! (And Make A Buck)
Review: Ah yes... they're "jaleous of our Freedom"... This pretty much sums up the Neocon's incredibly profound views of a world where if they disagree with us, well... they must "hate" us. It's that simple. Mr Gibson's book does America a disservice by exactly portraying the negative stereotype of the "naive" and "simplistic" American.

Summary: Already the book description contains a blatant lie
Review: The book description says "Presumptuous Belgian officials attempted to bring American officials up on war-crimes charges."
That's nonsense. It's true that some Belgians filed complaints against Americans when we still had a law allowing that, but these people were not "officials" at all. They were mostly members of far left groups.
Apart from that, isn't it possible that maybe - just maybe - the worldwide disdain for the Bush administration is the fault of this administration itself? It's only a suggestion.

Summary: A difficult child in an adult body.
Review: John Gibson is a charming guy and he has a talent for what he does on his show. That doesn't necessarily mean he has any substance. There are a couple of basic flaws in this little tome.

1) Confusion of hatred for G.W. Bush with hatred for America. Hundreds of millions of people loathe G.W.B., but most of them understand this distinction. Gibson is willfully blind to the difference here.

2) The implied fact that none of this anger and criticism can ever have any validity. It's just pathological, a product of envy and self-interest.

He doesn't engage in thoughtful argument with any U.S. policies. The real premise of this book is Gibson's worship of G.W.B. They're infallible, and the fact that others disagree only proves the case.

For example, Apparently Belgium is a democracy. And yet they don't want to lose their whole military and wreck their budget and economy to attempt to export this miracle. So they're just hypocrites.

The reasoning here is self-enforcing and circular, and lacks a certain self-awareness and humility that would give it real depth.

Of course he has the right to throw mud pies and whine about the French all he wants. Hopefully the adults will be back to office soon.

Summary: HATED FOR WHAT WE STAND FOR....FREEDOM
Review: "a reader from Seattle", April 24, 2004, would be better named "Clueless in Seattle". Mr. Gibson hits the nail right on the head. I have traveled and found that Americans are hated in a good part of Europe, South America, Canada and the Carribean. We are hated because of the jealousy over our freedom, defense of freedom and our diverse lifestyles. It may be time to confine our vacations within our borders and keep our money home. That would be an investment in America and send a loud and clear message to our detractors. I've seen enough of the world and now wish to see all of America and share my money with my fellow Americans. Thank you John Gibson for putting it in print and Amazon for affording the forum.

Summary: Simplistic nonsense
Review: Mr. Gibson is a very confused man.
He gives example after example of foreigners spouting what he deems 'hate' speech about - not America the country - but America's current leaders. And this is the point where Mr. Gibson is confused. Since the current American leadership happens to be those who Mr. Gibson identifies with, he takes umbrage.

Yet if I recall correctly, when America's leaders were those who Mr. Gibson did not identify with, Mr. Gibson had no problems with foreigners criticizing American policy.

In other words, Mr. Gibson confuses the leaders with the country. Also, he fails to acknowledge why these leaders are reviled, and even if they are, it is part of political discourse.

In this regard, he is not only a confused man, but also one who is very naive and gullible.

I am surprised that a professional news organization would employ him.

On a side note - in my recent travels to Europe and Asia, I was treated with kindness and respect even though they knew I was from America. Everyone told me they loved this coutry but had problems with our leaders these days.

Summary: Excellent non-partisan book, must read for all
Review: First I would like to say that the book is great. John Gibson is clearly as talented a journalist as he is a writer. If you find yourself thinking , "why does everyone hate America?", this book has all the answers. Believe me, the hatred of America by the rest of the world, especially among our 'friends' stems far before the Iraq War and the War on Terror, as Gibson clearly lays out.

And to 'a reader in Seattle (first review at current time of posting)', why don't you READ the book, before you give a hatchet review of it?

It's funny, but imagine the differences in the world if everyone who spent their time condemning America, condemned terrorism instead.

Summary: Why are we hated?
Review: I just have one two-part question: Why are we currently hated around the world and if the US IS hated, why weren't we hated around the world 5 years ago or 10 or even 25 years ago? I traveled overseas several times before 9/11, including to France, and never encountered any hatred directed at me or other Americans. What have we done to anger the world?
Does the book address this point?

Summary: Hating America: The New AMERICAN Sport
Review: It's pretty obvious from these reviews that America is
doing a great job of hating itself these days.
Not a good portent for our future folks.
