Rating: Summary: he writes like the retarded best friend i don't have Review: for someone who claims to be highly intelligent, savage's writing makes him sound like a drunken, rambling lout.on his radio show he once claimed to have read an 800-page book in one night. you'd think he had at least picked up some style points from the wealth of books he ostensibly has read. "are you following this?" "listen to me" et cetera... this reads like a verbatim transcript of his radio monologue. whether this is intentional or not is difficult to judge. there's no way anyone could write like this on purpose, unless they were mentally handicapped or on some sort of drug. ...that, OR it's an incredible insult to his audience's intelligence (which he's betting they won't pick up on). why did he write the book this way? does he think his writing is actually good? is he mocking his readers? so many questions... still, the book is entertaining in the same way gangsta rap is... i recommend stealing the savage nation
Rating: Summary: He is a racist and homophobic moron Review: I hope you know that you are a sick human
Rating: Summary: Michael Savage does not break any new ground Review: Michael Savage does not break any new ground in The Savage Nation. The book reads like a transcript of his radio show, and most of the jokes do not translate well to paper (Larry "Selzer" haha). Anyone who has listened to his show more than 10 times would not find anything new in this book. I have no basic disagreement with his message: both the Replicrats and Democrans are selling us out and destroying the country. Savage is at least passionate about his subject, but the material in the book is kinda tired.
Rating: Summary: Nothing Short of Hitleresque Review: If you were to scan The Savage Nation into a computer and electronically substitute the word "Jew" for the word "liberal" where it appears in relevant passages, the result might bear a chilling resmblance to Mein Kampf. Although occasionally compelling, Mr. Savage's book is--in a nutshell--two-hundred-odd pages of rambling, self-contradictory elegy for an American golden age that never existed.
Rating: Summary: Stop attacking Savage for being Jewish Review: I keep reading reviews where Savage is slyly attacked for being Jewish. There is also the fact that he may be gay. These attacks detract from what he is saying. This is America where being Jewish and or gay is not a crime. Give the man a break and let him live his life. If you want to attack his politics that is your right, but leave his personal life alone.
Rating: Summary: Written like a young child speaks Review: Although a little rough around the edges, Michael Savage, simply says what 90 percent of America thinks. It seems that "Joe Six-pack" or Suzie "Nail-job" are just too tuned into their next social outing or bill to pay. They have the foresight of about 60 minutes. Dr. Savage continually harps on three things: Borders, Culture, and Language. What is wrong with that? I have been told that Fairfax county Virginia teaches "English as a second language" in over 70 languages. Yes, many are students of diplomats. But, my ex-wife found that in California, she could take the driving test in over 50 languages. Think about it! Do you really want that to be in place???? Keep them guessing Dr. Savage!
Rating: Summary: The Liberals Ruining America Review: Get this book and find out how the liberals are destroying our great country.
Rating: Summary: Tapestry Not Savagery Review: Could I say anything more than 595 others have chimed in on this book. I will not used the vulgar words and diatribe thrown in Dr. Savage's direction. Have we no perspective? A man this brilliant comes along once in a very long time. He is an incisive and clear thinker, consistent yet flexible. Has anyone read any of the 20 or so academic works that came before two bestsellers written within one year? As an academically trained scholar, I can see the difference. That he can move from one style to the other, from talking about vitamins, medicinal plants and herbs on the one hand, to passionate persuasion that our current President has lost touch with the people who elected him, to talking about Cadillacs and the fantasies of lost youth, to singing "Volare" on the air...does no one recognize a Renaissance Man in this wilderness called America. Sure, his real name, and the copyright on his book is Michael A. Savage, Ph.D. He's not hiding behind that! He is a blue collar white collar American, self-made in a way few attain. If anyone's life is an open book, from Longfellow Avenue in the Bronx to Marin County, his is. The books, the radio show, the risky switch from a 50,000 watt station to KNEW at age 60...come on, folks! Where's your sense of perspective? Despite his defense of the family, tonight he left a descendant of Gaugin with the question, in the gist of it: So, had he remained a family man and stockbroker and not left his family for the Tropics and his painting, we'd not have his brilliant artwork. Which would be better? The caller was hoping she had not married such a man. Savage advocates a traditional, straight and narrow lifestyle, but he'd hardly deny that the tapestry of America has always had a warp and a woof. Dr. Savage challenges you to think. And it is very, very hard work to think clearly. Let us be grateful, and leave the AD HOMINEM (you may have to look this up) attacks at home.
Rating: Summary: Slice and Dice Review: Michael Savage is a brilliant satirist. Changing his original name and even his vocation, he has molded himself into a professionally vitriolic chickenhawk who broadcasts out of the most liberal town in America (SF, CA.) His vitriole is so focused, so reactionary, his dedication must be commended. He is tremendously funny. Sadly, he is also listened to and even loved by many people. Not only does he pollute the airwaves, but he writes books, too. Being a funny satirist--a right wing hatchet man who'll say anything his ignorant fanbase wants to hear--his main crime is really the high exposure he receives, though this can be chalked up to the companies that bankroll him and keep him on the air and on the shelves. Is that liberal bias? Or is it capitalism at its finest and sleaziest? Since he's not serious, Savage hardly even warrants qualification of his points and his rants. He is a crass comedian, and like most crass comedians who don't change their shtick or try to grow up, he, too, will be chewed up and spit out by the same machine that made him. Hello, the Andrew Dice Clay of pundits.
Rating: Summary: The Show is Good, The Book is a Disaster Review: When I was a kid I saved for two months and bought some used army gear via mail order. What a piece of junk. That memory of being ripped off stuck with me for over 40 years. Now I had the same feeling again when I bought this book ...., a book that is now in a garbage dump some place. I listen to the Savage Nation often especially as I am commuting at that time. The show is excellent and entertaining, with a New York bite. He sounds like one of my friends from Long Island or New Jersey. I enjoy the show, especially his stories about life in San Francisco, the bums on the streets, the illegal aliens, his old dog, the restaurants, his boat, the ocean smells, Fisherman's wharf, his neighbours, the Chinese food, the undercooked tuna, his Ph.D. at Berkeley, his mother, his father, life back in Brooklyn, his mothers cooking of the big high protein meals, his job working for his father, his friend's old Jaguar that crashed, the Land Rover that fell apart in Connecticut on the turnpike, the trips to the south seas, on and on. Get past the yelling and it is all very entertaining. You can tell I am a regular listener. So I bought the book. What a disappointment. It is one of those short large font and very short sucker books. Charitably one can say it is a transcript of the show. Otherwise it is a meandering free mental streaming jumbled mess of his ideas. Frankly it is a poorly prepared book. Waste of money and one feels short changed, just like my mail order experience when I was a small kid. After hearing him on the radio and his constant harping about his 20 prior books I thought the book would be good. Believe me it went in the garbage can. The paper was better off on a tree. My opinion of him dropped about 75% when I saw what he was selling. It is better than 1 star but just slightly. My humble opinion. Jack in Toronto
