Rating: Summary: We Will Pay For Our Lack Of Attention Review: Michelle Malkin takes a badly needed overview and analysis at the critical situation America is in today. When discussing the issue of illegal immigration and criminals who reside here illegally and commit crimes, oft-times people clutter this issue with unrelated topics concerning illiegal immigration: racism, bias, discrimination, selfishness, etcetera. This is one of the reasons illegal immigration isn't legislatively and effectively taken head on and dealt with. It is a serious issue that will have long term ramifications in the United States in the near future. This is not about legal immigration, the concept of immigration, of which our nation was founded upon. It is purely the illegals, and the government sanctioned loopholes they use to committ crimes here and Islamic terrorists for example, that work toward killing us, while living here illegally. Malkin, a first generation American of Filipino immigrants, notes several well-documented cases of criminals who've come here and committed heinous acts with impunity. Many commit violent crimes, leave, and the return illegally several times. The immigration policies of the United States are littered with loopholes and INS ineffectiveness. The constant snafus of the INS are left unpunished. Those who drop the ball continue to work without any accountability whatsoever. A person who enters and resides in the U.S. illegally and has a child, is playing the game. That child is now a U.S. citizen. Hospital bills, AFDC (welfare), SSI, and a host of other tax payer funds go to these illegals, who know how to use and abuse the U.S. government generosity (stupidity). Illegal drain the treasury funds in California, but if people mention this they are immediately tagged with the "racist" label, and considered incompassionate etc. Serious reforms are needed. The author notes that legislation is the solution, which I believe is quite necessary. However, if the solution is to pass more legislation--to undo the prior legislation that is flawed and is not even executed in the first place we are....adding more legislation, that likely won't be followed or implemented now. Unless bureaucrats are held accountable. Perhaps I should renounce my U.S. citizenship, leave and return here illegally, apply for welfare, then for a Small Business Administration loan to start my own business. By taking that route, I'd have a better chance of getting ahead. OVERPOPULATION OF THE UNITED STATES On a related point to the book, if this trend of immigration continues the population in the U.S. could reach 500 million by 2050, or less. In 1970 the population was 200 million. In 2003 today, it's 300 million. Think of the massive concrete-neon sprawl of suburbia, encroaching endlessly up and down both coasts and in the American West. Resource depletion, pollution, energy needs, higher taxes, and a poorer quality of life. There will be major negative effects in the U.S. if the current trends continue. When it comes to immigration, be it legal or illegal, it's the over-population stupid.
Rating: Summary: Invasion Review: Michelle Malkin goes beyond just doing her homework. She finds problems and exposes them in a way that everyone can understand. She's not afraid of getting her hands dirty by naming names and pointing out the corrupt deeds that are done by those that are supposed to be protecting us from harm. Her book "Invasion" should be read by everyone.
Rating: Summary: amazing scholarship and must read expose Review: A wonderful work by a Filipino American who understands that there is a need to regulate immigration if we are to keep it coming.
Rating: Summary: GUTLESS POLITICIANS = USA THIRD WORLD STATUS Review: Michelle Malkin has penned a frightening expose' of the breakdown in immigration controls which has severely damaged this country, perhaps irreparably. More frightening is the chorus of knee-jerk liberals who pan this truthful book. As long as such ignorance persists, we will continue down the road to third world status. Yes, we are all a nation of immigrants. We've heard this ad nauseum from the left. However, our current birthrate is more than sufficient to replace our population. Keep in mind also that a hundred or so years ago when we welcomed a very large and diverse group of immigrants this nation had a much smaller population. We could easily assimilate these groups and we welcomed their work ethic. With a current population of about 300 million plus, we simply cannot continue to absorb large numbers of people and maintain the lifestyles we've enjoyed for so long. Many immigrants are hard working people seeking a better life. However, many also come here seeking the freebies so generously offered by liberals. Check out the numbers in California, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Our welfare, medical, and education systems are overwhelmed by illegals. Many are getting SSI, welfare for illegitimate kids, and food stamps while our own LEGAL citizens struggle to make ends meet. They get top notch medical care including state of the art cancer treatment and organ transplants, all courtesy of the American taxpayer. Pregnant illegals are given free ob/gyn care and hospital services. Their babies are then considered U.S. citizens, thereby making them eligible for all available welfare benefits. And, if they are denied, some liberal lawyer will sue for big bucks on their behalf. Ranchers and farmers in New Mexico and Arizona are having to arm themselves against the criminal elements which breech our borders with abandon. A minimum of 10% of illegals are incarcerated at some point for criminal activities. All the while elected representatives look the other way - Democrats because they are misguided, politically-correct socialists[-]communists; Republicans because they value their cushy jobs over the country's well- being and lack the courage to challenge the system. Do we feel sympathy for immigrants? Yes! For many years we've given untold billions in foreign aid to lessen their plight. But simple logic (and lack of funds) precludes a continuation down the current path. A top-ranking representative for LULAC (Hispanic rights organization) said "You know, Texas once belonged to Mexico..." Deja vu!
Rating: Summary: Not an anti-imigration book Review: I read six of the one star reviews and decided I needed to order this book. Once finished reading "Invasion" it was obvious that not a single one of the one star reviewers had actually read this book. There is not a bigoted word in this book and it is decidedly not an anti-imigration book. Just as obvious was the fact that they didn't want you to read it either. There is not one anti-immigration sentence in this book. No part of this book is pro or anti any nationality or immigration group with two exceptions - "terrorists and felons". This book takes a cold, hard look at the complete and total incompetence of the INS over the last decade. "Invasion" is equally hard on Democrats and Republicans including the current Administration and Justice Department in their lax control over and treatment of the INS top brass, even when found guilty of numerous felonies. Invasion very breifly describes the Clinton/Gore "Citizenship USA" program that naturalized 1.3 million aliens (including thousands of criminals) in time for them to register to vote in the 1996 election. "Invasion" details how INS employees from the top to the bottom sell for their own profit green cards and even citizenships by the tens of thousands without any criminal background check, even after 9-11. This book details how aliens are rubber stamped through ports of entry with little or no screening for terrorists or criminals, even after 9-11. Most Americans believe the INS to be a legitimate government agency protecting our borders and citizens from terrorists and known criminals. "Invasion" details the incredible incompetence of the federal agency charged with protecting American's and America's borders during the war on terror. "Invasion" is not an anti-immigration book so what is the motive of the one star reviewers? You have to wonder about that! Read this book and then consider the war on terror. Then consider sleeper cells. Then be afraid.
Rating: Summary: Invasion: How America Still Welcomes Terrorist Criminals Review: Defintely worth reading. Informative and necessary to understand the problems that we are facing in the migration of the illegal immigrants.
Rating: Summary: A good book... Review: I don't agree with all of ms malkin's analysis but i think this is an important book. She has concerns that should be typical of all americans. She believes that immigrants who come to this country should respect our laws and play by the rules like her own parents did. She believes that our government should do a much better job enforcing these laws. She documents the politically motivated corruption behind why we don't enforce these laws. She is very critical of the current administration for not taking a stronger hand at trying to keep terrorists out. The true indication of how significant this book is can be found in the reviews by those who claim not to have liked it. I say claimed because i doubt if any actually read the book and it seems interesting that the same people who claim that her book is intolerant would say the most hateful racist things about her. One bogus reviewer called her the "token asian" on fox news and basically called her a prostitute. Any book that can illicit that kind of a response, hate from people that didn't even read it must be worth reading. Bravo michelle, don't let the bigots get you down!!! .................socks
Rating: Summary: Best Book of 2002! Review: Living in South Texas, I am immersed in the problems of illegal immigration everyday, but even I was shocked to be shown the total ineptness of the U.S. government to protect our borders. The reader will see how the government has abandoned the responsibility of protecting American citizens, and done so in the name of political correctness. This book is a wake up for all Americans. Malkin's work illustrates, not only the ease in which illegals breech our borders, but even the minute inconvenience it is for them to stay here, even after being arrested. The total ineptitude of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) is deplorable, but Malkin shows the problem is hardly limited to the INS, but reaches into all associated with securing our borders. Fighting terrorism is undoubtedly the cause to be rallied around by all Americans in this decade, and it must start with stopping the influx of illegal aliens into America. This book will arm you with the knowledge needed to make educated commentary to your representatives, or even to debate this perilous issue on the local level. See how liberal ideals and regulations have opened our borders to this invasion of illegals. Look at actual case histories of illegal felons and how easily they were able to perpetuate their crimes and how they could have been stopped and American lives saved. Find out about the rampant corruption within our government agencies and courts that have a chokehold on American security. I recommend a lot of books, but this is one of the few I would place on the "must read" list. Michelle Malkin is one of today's finest writers and is on the short list of leadership spearheading the move for immigration reform. Get this book, educate yourself, and get active in this war against illegal immigration. Our future and our children's futures, depend on it.
Rating: Summary: If We Don't Want More Terror Attacks... Review: 'Invasion: How America Still Welcomes Terrorists, Criminals, and Other Foreign Menaces to Our Shores' is the first book from conservative columnist Michelle Malkin. Malkin, who occasionally appears on various television news programs as the token conservative in a sea of shiny liberals and leftists, is a first generation American; her parents came here from the Philippines and gained their citizenship in the 1980's. This fact is important to remember when outraged readers, who cannot tolerate any questioning of America's immigration policy, attempt to portray this book as racist pap. Malkin is no racist; she never criticizes the majority of immigrants who come here through legal channels. The September 11th terrorist attacks on Washington, D.C. and New York City sent shock waves through every aspect of American society'or did they? According to Malkin, at least one government agency, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), seems completely unconcerned with the 3,000 Americans killed in the attacks. Ominously, the INS acts as though the attacks never occurred. 'Invasion' is a 200+ page indictment of the ineffectiveness of the INS to keep out of our country people who dedicate their lives to our destruction. Malkin, through both statistical information and blood chilling stories, tries to open the eyes of the American public to the dangers we face if the INS is not reformed. If even half of what Malkin presents here is true, we can expect more destructive terrorist attacks very soon. Malkin spends a great deal of time discussing the various loopholes in our immigration policies. Foreigners on international flights into the United States face little challenge at the airport terminal, and only need a temporary visa to come into the country. Once here, they vanish into the population with little risk of deportation. There is no worry about appearing on a security database because these highly touted security systems rarely work or the government agencies do not use them. Once here, the would be terrorist may secure a driver's license without proof of residency in several states, or get a tax number from the government in lieu of a social security card. If seeking out these documents is too much trouble, the criminal can always register for classes at a university and then never show up. There are so many ways to thwart immigration laws that it makes one sick to read about it. Only sweeping, massive reforms have any chance of curing the problem (and even then, it is probably unlikely unless further terrorist attacks occur). Malkin's most effective exposing the ineffectiveness of the INS concerns the Angel Resendiz case. Resendiz is a Mexican national with a rap sheet the size of a phone book. After committing a crime in the United States, he would return to Mexico and then revisit the United States to commit more crimes. He quickly added murder to his routine, eventually killing twelve people on his cross border excursions. During this time, the INS failed to enter his name into security databases, allowing Resendiz to commit more murders. Even worse, Resendiz was in custody several times before returning to Mexico. If the INS had entered Resendiz's name in their computers, agents would have known about him and could have held him; instead, Resendiz went free and committed more murders. Of course, none of the INS officials responsible for this fiasco were ever held responsible. At least Resendiz went to death row, but those that allowed him to roam free continue to work in positions dealing with our border security. The Resendiz case is bad, but Malkin also provides a list of other criminals currently living the good life in the land of the free. These include an Ethiopian secret policeman who tortured women during his tenure in Africa, two El Salvadorans responsible for death squad work during the civil war in that country, two Haitian responsible for thousands of cases of torture and murder, a Cuban known in his homeland as 'El Enfermero,' a security officer who tortured people by applying electric shocks to their bodies. The list goes on and on, but what is important to know is that these people are not only an insult to our political ideals, their presence is an insult to members of their own communities who are here to make a decent life for their families. Oh, and these criminals are not just visiting; in many cases they received citizenship after they were identified as criminals! Malkin makes an effective argument about the burning need to change our immigration policies. Regrettably, her solutions usually involve enacting even more legislation to change prior legislation. Endless rounds of legislation will not solve the problem. What we need is an immigration policy approved by a national vote, as it is obvious we may no longer rely on our elected officials and unaccountable bureaucrats to protect our loved ones from violent death at the hands of terrorists. With the threat of violent death at the hands of international terrorists hanging over all of our heads, this book should find a wide audience among people of all political stripes. Even though the book takes part in a long journalistic tradition of bashing a government agency after the fact (remember the soaking the ATF took after Waco and Ruby Ridge?), the terrorist attacks on September 11th must not become an obscurity in our lives. Read this book and learn about the shenanigans your elected officials are doing in Washington.
Rating: Summary: The Negative Reviewers are Unable to Deal With the Truth. Review: This book was AMAZING!! It details exactly how our country is being hurt by illegal immigrants that are flowing into this country because our politicians (Republican AND Democrat) do not have the backbone to do what is right for this country. They are putting the ethnic vote over and above the safety of all Americans. People are being hurt and killed, mothers are being gang raped in New York, terrorists are flying planes into buildings, snipers are killing children and cops are being killed by these illegal immigrants and it must be stopped! Kudos to Michelle Malkin and all those brave enough to stick their head out and criticize the horrible US immigration policy that is doing absolutely NOTHING to keep out the illegal immigrants that our coming over and committing feolnies IN DROVES! For the people who rated this book negatively, are you using your brain at all or are you all sharing the same one?? What does Howard Zinn have to do with the law? So what if there was no border 500 years ago. Guess what? THERE IS ONE NOW! 100 years ago a different family owned the house that I own now. Does that mean that their descendants can barge in my house and rape my wife? According to your logic, it does. If I speak out against it am I a racist against whatever race the descendants happen to be? According to liberal logic, I am. Oh, and I own a copy of "A People's History of the United States: 1492 to Present" and I have read it. Don't even bother wasting your time. You'll thank me for it. Now the book serves its most useful purpose: propping up one leg of my couch. Listen up. The fact that you want the law to be followed doesn't mean that you want to rule the world and the fact that you want our borders to be protected (as mandated by the United States Constitution) doesn't make you a racist. Malkin wants the law followed and she wants our borders closed up to illegal immigrants. She obviously has no problem with LEGAL immigration. The fact that her parents were LEGAL immigrants shows absolutely no hypocrisy at all. If I legally own a gun am I a hypocrite if I don't want guns sold on the black market? According to liberal logic, I am. Get a clue, Liberals. Malkin speaks the truth and you'd be wise to read her book. But take your lefty blinders off first.
