Rating: Summary: FOR EVERY BLACK EYE Review: "FOR EVERY BLACK EYE" IS A BOLD WORK OF FICTION FOR A NON-FICTION PROBLEM. THIS WORK ACTUALLY HELPED ME, AS A MAN, BETTER UNDERSTAND THE MENTALITY OF ABUSED WOMEN. THE BOOK WAS BOTH ENTERTAINING AND EDUCATIONAL FOR ME. THE CHARACTERS WERE CLEARLY VISIBLE IN MY MIND AS I READ. THEIR LOOK, VOICE, LAUGHTER, WALK, SMILES, FACIAL EXPRESSION AND ATTITUDES WERE WELL DESCRIBED. AND JUST WHEN I THOUGHT THE BOOK WOULD END A CERTAIN WAY, IT THREW ME FOR A LOOP. THAT WHICH I LIKE AND APPRECIATE IN BOOK ENDINGS. A MUST READ. HATS OFF TO C.F.HAWTHORNE ON HER FIRST PUBLISHED WORK OF ART.
Rating: Summary: A Must Read ~ You won't be able to put it down!! Review: "For Every Black Eys is a must read especiall for women. The complexity of the main character reels you in and beckons for simplicity. Although a well writtend novel, some portions were unrealistic. Some resolutions were unheard of, yet I yearned for more. Kudos to C. F. Hawthorne on her first novel. I look forward to supporting all of her future works. Reviewer: Shannon Thomasson of PSSST Book Club
Rating: Summary: love hurts coming from the fist! Review: Annie Marie Scott has taken one too many beatings from her beloved husband, after waking from a coma she finds herself a victim once again with her alter ego Febe (for every black eye!) Febe is the strong take no nonsense, tough and a little psychotic. Who brings on the storm. After her close friend's death from the hands of her lover Febe sets out with her brother, a handsome ex-marine to set the recored straight and to give the abusers a taste of their own medicine. They get a taste indeed. This book pulls at the heartstrings and uncovers what the world doesn't want to see. Peppered with so much spunk you'll be cheering them on. A page turner all the way. C.F.Hawthorne is a author on the move and one to watch.
Rating: Summary: An Eye for an Eye Review: Annie Marie Scott is living in hell in her own home. Every day of her life with her husband Jacob is filled with abuse and pain. Annie's only protection in her times of trouble is her alter ego Febe who is strong, where Annie is weak. If someone hurts Febe, Febe will make the source of her pain pay for causing it, Febe refuses to stand for any more of Jacob's abuse of Annie. One day a woman finds herself bruised, battered and comatose. She is trapped inside of her body, unable to speak and has no clue what has put her in this predicament. During her time of incapacitation she is cared for by Gloria, a loving volunteer who is in much the same situation as the mystery woman. Gloria is there supporting her day in and day out with prayers, conversation and love. She is also cared for by Nikkei, a physical therapist who just wants to be loved. When this mystery woman awakens from a long coma, she still has no idea of what has happened to her or what has happened to her to cause her to be horribly disfigured. She calls herself Febe, she has no idea why she thinks this is her name, it just feels right. Febe is mean, cusses like a sailor and is an advocate for abused women. She refuses to let any man get away with abusing a woman. For Every Black Eye, a novel by author C.F. Hawthorne, is a story of survival, pain, and revenge. There are a lot of domestic violence novels on the market, but this is one is by far the most different. The difference in this story is that the victim has a split personality and that other personality decides that she will not stand for the abuse of women. Febe will do what she has to do to make sure that abusers pay for their actions. While this was a good book, there were some things that I considered a bit unrealistic, but I will not reveal them in the context of this review because I don't want to give too much of the story away. The unrealistic portions aside this is a book that I believe should be read. Reviewed by Simone A. Hawks
Rating: Summary: Romance wrapped around domestic violence Review: Annie Marie Scott is young and deeply in love with the idea of being in love; she will not leave a life of domestic violence. It is clear that her husband, Jacob Scott, is a controlling abuser, just as her father had been. Annie has seen more than her fair share of abuse and in order to keep some peace of mind an alter ego, Febe, emerges to take control and give her life some order.
One evening, Febe is not strong enough to overpower the drug-induced control of Jacob. The result: Febe spent almost a year in a coma. Gloria is a wealthy God-fearing, emotionally abused wife who volunteers at the hospital. She takes to Febe, adopts her into the family and loves her back from the coma that threatened to take her life. Febe spends years attempting to put her life back together. Doctors, months of rehabilitation, hatred for men and endless hours of dedication to the local women's shelter finally helps break through the barricades that surround her heart and memory.
Just when Febe thinks things couldn't get any worse, her best friend died. This forces pieces of her memory back, a young man becomes interested in her, and the shelter is to be closed. How is Febe going to take care of women going through domestic violence now? Febe enlists JayR and his crew to take charge of her revenge idea.
The twists and turns at the end of this novel were exciting and unpredictable. The idea of a romance novel wrapped in domestic violence was a new and uncomfortable experience for me but definitely drove home the author's statement that "love hurts when it comes from a fist".

Rating: Summary: "Febe" was Fabulous.... From a Males point of View! Review: As I read the book, I could not help but to think that this is about the best book I have ever read. It was so on the mark about domestic violence, best book from a man's point of view. If we as abusers see that we have the up-hand on a woman, we will use that to our benefit. It starts with the verbal abuse, then a push or a shove, then the closed fist hit on your arm, then the face and before you know it, you are a human punching bag, or knock out dummy. This book is an excellent read for those who want to know the flip side of love....and to all abusers be careful because I believe there is a little FEBE in all women!
Rating: Summary: A Different Look Review: C. F. Hawthorne demonstrates the ability to tell an age-old story in an innovative way. For years Annie has endured physical and verbal abuse as a child and as an adult. Enter Febe, Annie's alter ego, who is there to protect her and to give her the courage to fight back and you have a story that is so over the top you have to wonder if you're dealing with reality. Utilizing engrossing and compassionate characters, Hawthorne gives us an interesting look at the results of domestic violence. Annie not only struggles with the physical scars and pain of the abuse, but she is constantly fighting with Febe and her revenge factor. Febe struggles with a strong and confident personality that puts her and others in dangerous situations. Mixed together, you have two very different personalities who are always at odds with each other. Hawthorne can definitely tell a story in a very unconventional way. This is a very good, affective and graphic story that will have you feeling for each character and their struggles. -- Reviewed by Dawn R. Reeves
