Rating: Summary: Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty!! Meeeeowwwwrrrrrrr ! Review: Nickolai is HOT! Ms. Feehan has written a lovely story based on the Beauty and the Beast legend, with a couple of new twists. Keeping with her own tradition, her heroine, Isabella is a strong, interesting person in her own right. While she occasionally does not employ good sense, she is far from the vapid, one dimensional female characters readers can encounter in this venue. Nickolai is the tortured hero that Ms. Feehan writes so well. A strong male who is attracted to and demands a woman who is strong willed and strong minded. And did I mention that he is HOT!! Here, kitty, kitty.......woohoo!
Rating: Summary: Highly Recommended! Review: I've really enjoyed Christine Feehan's Dark series. After reading the write ups on The Lion of Leon, I was essentially expecting the retelling of Beauty and the Beast but this book was much, much more. I stayed up until 2:30 am to finish it because I couldn't put it down. This one is Christinee Feehan at her best and is definately a keeper.
Rating: Summary: A Good Read Review: I am a fan of Christine's Dark Series and so just have to buy everything she puts out, even gothics - which are usually not my style. That being said I must say that this is a very tightly written novel. If you are a fan of the creeping kind of horror, the lingering suspense, then this book is a must buy. I enjoyed the retelling of the Beauty and the Beast story and think it is the best adaptation of that line that I have read so far. The only thing that keeps me from giving this book 5 stars (I wish I could have given it 4.5) is the ending seemed a little rushed. The dark a creepy ride of the book is wonderful and well done, those that like the Gothic genre should be in love with this book. This book kept me guessing to the end.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic read! Review: This book had it all - a strong heroine, a tragic and wildly romantic leading man, a big scary gothic mansion, politics and intrigue, evil villians and potential betrayal by dearest friends, with a liberal dose of the paranormal thrown in to keep it all bubbling. I started reading Feehan for her "Dark" series, and based on the strength of those books, gave her Gothics a try. This is a fabulous offering - richly detailed, passionate, intense without being overblown, and beautifully paced. I honestly couldn't put it down. I would recommend anything that Christine Feehan has written, but I thought this was an outstanding addition to her collection. She gets better with every book!
Rating: Summary: Great story, typical Feehan storytelling Review: This is a great variation on the beauty and the beast story, except it takes Isabella a long time to see the beast in Nicholai. Its really everyone else who needs to see beyond the beast.... To save her brother, Isabelle tavels to Don Nicholai DeMarco to ask for his help, even though she's heard the myth that his land is cursed and those who venture into his territory rarely return. She willingly agrees to marry Nicholai, who needs a bride from outside his land, in order to obtain Nicholai's help. But once she has ageed to stay, she becomes intwined in the castle and the lives of the people who live there-- which is good and bad. Overall, this is a great book to read on a nice relaxing weekend. Even though the hero and heroine fall in love rather quickly, the story is entertaining and engrossing. The main problem I have with the story is the same problem I have with most of Feehan's books; she creates original characters in an original setting with orginial problems, then she repeats the problem, and repeats the problem, and repeats the problem until you want to skip to the end to find out what finally happens. But you know you can't skip around because while she is repeating the problem for the twelth time, you know she's also adding some details that lead up to the end. If it weren't for the repitition, I'd have given this story five stars.
Rating: Summary: Timeless Tales Review Review: By TT reviewer Amy L. Turpin [full review on our website] Isabella Vernaducci only wishes to free her beloved brother, her only family. She knows her only hope rests with the elusive Don Nicolai DeMarco, a lethal Don feared by those living outside his palazzo. Braving the snow-covered pass to the palazzo, Isabella feels the menacing force stalking her from the moment she sets foot inside the Don's territory. Had she known the evil awaiting her in the palazzo, she might have thought twice about attempting it . . . no, that's not true. She would do anything to save her brother, whose sentence is death without the Don's intervention. Don DeMarco knows what fate will befall any woman he chooses to take as a wife. An ancient curse has followed his family through many generations and, having witnessed its effects first hand, he is determined to not follow in his father's footsteps. Knowing that Isabella will be allowed to travel the pass, unlike so many others, Nicolai knows that she is the woman he must marry. He makes that his condition for saving her brother. His only thought, though, is to prevent himself from caring for her. But Isabella inserts herself into his home and his heart all too quickly, and he knows his love for her only seals her fate. With evil all around them and the attempts on Isabella's life growing in number, Nicolai is desperate to save this woman he has grown to love from the curse that has haunted him since childhood. He knows that by loving her he will betray her to her death, and that would cost him not only her life, but his eternal soul as well. Isabella, on the other hand, wants to chase the shadows from this man who is both feared and loved by his people, as he is by her. She must convince one and all that the Don is not the beast they think he is. This wonderfully magical world is filled with dark and forbidding places where love truly conquers all. Shape-shifting stories have always fascinated me. The challenge is making the unbelievable believable. The romance woven into this story is superbly done, and is intricately woven therein, making the tale incomplete without it. This is a very sound work and one I believe the reader will enjoy time and time again. Written in the same tone as her first gothic 'The Scarletti Curse', Ms Feehan creates yet another book dominated by seductive, tormented men and the women determined to save them.
Rating: Summary: delightful paranormal romance Review: The goal seems simple enough: rescuing her brother. Finding anyone capable o aiding her in his enormous duchy like pelazzo in the Alps is so formidable that everyone tells Isabella Vernaducci to go home. She has heard tales about the Don that strike fear in the hearts of the bravest souls, yet aristocratic Isabella obstinately continues her quest to find the enigmatic, more myth than man, Nicolai DeMarco. When Isabella locates Nicolai (or perhaps it is more the other way around), she does not see the Don who allegedly controls the beasts to do his dirty work. Instead she sees a man haunted by a curse that the intrepid Isabella is determined to free Nicolai from it. When Nicolai offers to save her sibling on the condition she marry him, Isabella readily agrees as she knows she needs no stipulation to wed the Don. Still as she risks her life to save her tortured beloved, she wonders if she will ever gain his love even if she eliminates the beast that holds his soul. More than just Christine Feehan fans will enjoy this delightful paranormal romance as the rarely used early nineteenth century Alps setting (almost Gothic in nature), the intrepid heroine, and the tortured male protagonist come together in exciting fashion. Though readers will admire and question Isabella's bravery at the same time, the audience will relish her efforts to emancipate the two men she cherishes from their respective "incarcerations". LAIR OF THE LION is a wonderful novel that readers will appreciate if they set aside the time to luxuriate in a one sitting read. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: An okay read. . . Review: Lair of the Lion is worth a read, but it's not up to the usual standards of Christine Feehan. Isabella is a little to headstrong and doesn't always use common sense. I own all the Feehan Dark Series and have read them over and over. Can't wait until Dark Symphony comes out. Hopefully it will be back to the usual "can't stop reading" excitement.
Rating: Summary: Feehan's best!! Review: I know everyone utterly adore's Christine Feehan's Carpathian Saga's, and I am a fan as well, but I think she really shows her true talent in The Scarletti Curse and now this this one. She single-handedly brings Gothics back into fashion with an updated style, giving us the brooding hero, the fearless heroine and all the spooky shadows guaranteed to keep the readers on the edge their seats. The story is basically a beauty and beast redo...the cursed Don Nicolai DeMarco doomed to destroy the woman he marries and Isabella Vernaducci defying everything to save, first her brother, and then the man she loves. Feehan breathes life into the faded Gothics and Faerytales alike and I say MORE MORE MORE!! So fans of the old series Beauty and the Beast - here is a treat for you!!
Rating: Summary: Lair of the Lion - Another great book by Christine Feehan! Review: Christine Feehan once more writes a great page-turner. I love her "Dark" series and "The Scarletti Curse". Her hero/love interests are dark, the heroines light. She holds true to this formula in "Lair of the Lion". If you have read her books before, (and liked them) you will enjoy this book. Isabella Venaducci needs the powerful don Nicolai DeMarko to help her rescue her brother from imprisonment by a rivial don. The don DeMarko agrees to help her, but she must marry him to gain his aid. DeMarko has the power to communicate with animals. Isabella can "sence" strong emotions, both positive and negitive. There are sparks between the two. Ms. Feehan can sure write some steamy scenes! She doesn't fail to do so in this novel. To say much more might ruin the plot, so I say read and enjoy!
