Summary: Good, not great
Review: I have not read any of Robyn Sisman's other work, so I cannot compare.
Having said that, I did enjoy the book, although I thought that Sisman could have shortened it a bit. Much of the information was irrelevant and left me slightly bored. Yet I always keep reading, wanting to know what happens in the end.
Freya's boyfriend Michael breaks up with her just when she thinks that he is going to propose. Of course, he wants to be "just friends." Freya moves in with Jack, 10 year friend from their penniless times in New York. Lots of friction is created from the living arrangement, and it takes a trip to England for the two of them to realize how great their friendship really is.
Predictable, yes. It kept me interested most of the time. Some of the surprises at the end of the book were a bit too shocking and did not fit in with the flow of the rest of the plot.
Other than that, it is an enjoyable read if you have the time.

Summary: A great romantic comedy
Review: I love romantic comedies like Sleepless in Seattle or When Harry Met Sally, and Just Friends was the perfect book for me. Freya's struggles to find the perfect man, when he was really right under her nose the whole time, were hilarious and touching. Her friendship with Cat was endearing, and Cat's own romantic hijinks added a great subplot to the book. I think this the perfect summer beach read, or curl up with a bowl of popcorn and have a girl's night in book.

Summary: modern setting for old classics
Review: I loved this book. It is a modern version of the classics Breakfast at Tiffany's, High Society, and A Love Affair to Remember, all in one. Everything from the descriptions of the women's hats at an English wedding, to the smell of NYC streets was wonderful. I picked up a half dozen "summer reads" recommended by Amazon readers and this is the only one that I highly recommend.

Summary: Fun read, but could be better
Review: I picked up this book when I was looking for something light-hearted for the weekend and this fits the bill. Freya was likeable, I guess, mainly because she is what many modern women living in the city are fast becoming... demanding, neurotic, self-centred, worried about age.... etc. Somehow I find that rather relatable.

The story is pretty standard and predictable but there were funny parts and the style of writing makes it relatively stress-free to read. Good for a weekend if you're looking for something light-hearted but it could have been better with more rounded character development and more funny parts.

If I were to compare, I prefer reading the story of a neurotic, 30-something city dweller's quest for romance in Helen Fielding's "Bridget Jones' Diary" but Sisman's Just Friends has its merits for a light-hearted read.

Summary: I loved this book
Review: I so enjoyed this book. I thought it was going to be one of those typical novels about single, neurotic career women in their late 20's/thirties in search for Mr. Right (yes, I can relate...I am one of them)...but I was pleasantly surprised to find it funny and utterly romantic...with a bit of a twist at the end. I would love to see it made into a movie....maybe Minnie Driver as Freya (of course, Minnie is not a blond but she certainly has the height and the English wit!)

Summary: Excellent Heart Warming Story
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was up till the wee hours of the night captivated by the tale and trying to figure out what would happen next. It made me laugh, cry, and shout aloud with the characters. Robyn Sisman did an excellent job with the characters. Well recommended.

Summary: so-so
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It is well written and you learn a lot about what happens when people take others and situations for granted.

This is the story about Freya and what happens when her boyfriend "dumps" her on the night when she though she would be getting a ring. One thing leads to another and she ends up staying with her longtime friend Jack. (The writer)

The real issue is that Freya needs a date to her stepsisters (might I say wicked stepsister) wedding back in England. What happens when Jack decides to help her out and go as her date?

Also what happens when Freya starts to get annoyed with Jacks "teenyboppers from Planet Bubblegum" girlfriends?

Lets just say some of the misunderstandings are things that I have seen people do in real life and it is a GREAT story!

Summary: Killing the romantic comedy
Review: I wanted to read something light after the last book I had read so I picked this one up because I knew how it was going to end and hiliarity will pursue in order to get there, but I just couldn't stand reading this book. For me, a good romantic comedy contains two characters that you easily sympathize with as they go through their journey to find true love, but I had no sympathy for the overly inconsiderate, self-centered Freya. She was always taking from Jack and gave Jack practically nothing in return (well except for the rent). Even though Jack was the typical playboy, I felt for him because he was always willing to be there for Freya. Frankly he deserved someone better than Candace and Freya. I didn't even bother finish reading it because I was sick of all Freya and Jack's antics. While reading this book, I couldn't help wishing that the author spent a little time on Cat and Michael's whirlwind relationship. Their story seemed a lot more interesting than Freya and Jack.

Summary: Good but a different kind of fun.
Review: I was expecting a book that would be quintessential "chicklit." I didn't get that. I lked the book it was good, but it wasn't fun, it was a bit more dramatic and depressing but not that dismal. It was an unexpected surprise that wasn't unpleasant. It deserves four stars.
