Summary: Typical story but quite entertaining
Review: Robyn Sisman's "Just Friends" deals with Freya, a British-born art dealer who was dumped by her boyfriend Michael and stayed temporarily with her long-time friend, Jack. Jack is a instructor in creative writing and was in the midst or writing the "Great American Novel." Freya, desparately needed a boyfriend to attend her sister's wedding in England and the rest of the story is predictable as Jack agreed to be her "boyfriend" in England and they developed feelings for each other. Sisman does a good job in letting her readers know the stuborn personalities of both the main characters. Freya and Jack are not very likeable characters as they both are always circling looking for happiness and defying their families' values.

This is not a spectacular book that will leave you speechless but it entertaining in its way. There are some humor in the book, especially the part where Freya and Jack are always on each other's nerve, staying together. However, the secondary character such as Cat (Freya's best friend) can be developed more because at the moment, it seems like the author just added Cat in for the sake of it. Also, the author leaves her readers dissatisfied as the ending seems rushed especially dealing with Freya and Jack's relationships with their fathers respectively.

Summary: Forever Friends
Review: Robyn Sisman's Just Friends vividly depicts the relationship of a man and a woman. We are introduced to Jack and Freya who have known each other for ten years. When Freya and her boyfriend break up, she is in need of a place to say and Jack is there for her as always. Freya moves in with Jack and the two realize the difficulties of living with a person of the opposite sex. Freya becomes offedned by Jack's younger "student" girlfriend and Jack fears the advice his friend gave him on being friends with women. As Freya returns to England for a family wedding, she needs a date and resorts to Jack. Sisman uses many devices such as rhetorical questions, similes, and alliteration to add to the light humor of the novel. I enjoyed reading the novel and suggest it to anyone looking for an enlightening story of two lifelong friends.

Summary: so-so
Review: The book started off interesting enough with Freya getting dumped by her boyfriend. You later realise though that they are not emotionally compatible. Freya's character is a little cold. Its a little bit of an emotional roller coaster in the middle of the story as you can easily anticipate how the book is going to end. Its just that getting there is a little `dry' at times. It gets a little tedious in the middle when Jack and Freya work out their disagreements. Things spice up a little when they make their way to London pretending to be a couple right up to the point where you think, `how could he do that to a friend???'. The ending could have better expanded, it could be more `explosive' given the nature of both of characters. Still, it is a nice book to read if you have nothing else better to do.

Summary: Needs work
Review: There are so many books out there written in the same genre as Just Friends, and I am of the opinion that Ms. Sisman should read some of them before attempting to write another one. (Anything by Marian Keyes comes to mind...)

The basics were all there - a decent story line, great settings (New York City, England & the Deep South), a good romantic lead and even a great plot twist at the end. However, what this book greatly lacked was a believable or even likeable main character. Freya, the woman who the book is based around is one of the hardest to like heroines I have ever had the displeasure to read about. Freya is so self centered, bitter, age obessed and just down right surly I didn't care about her at all. If I can't make myself feel for or identify with the main character than chances are I am not going to like the book. I wanted to know more about the lesser characters like Jack, Cat and Candance than I ever wanted to know about Freya.

I gave the book 2 stars because I do think I got a few chuckles out of it, but for the most part I give it a thumbs down.

Summary: Very Enjoyable
Review: This book is one of the most endearing and funny books I have read in a long time. The characters are well spoken and warm. This is a book with real situations that alot of people can relate to. Do yourself a favor and read this book. It's like being with a crazy, funny, charming friend.

Summary: bad literature
Review: This book is part of a category that I call "... literature" - books about single thirty-somethings in a big city trying to find love in all the wrong places. It's been done before, and there is nothing in this book that makes it any different from other ... literature.

The book centers around Freya, an English woman who is dumped by her boyfriend and moves in with her male best friend, Jack. The problem is, of course, they can't stand each other. I fail to see how they can be best friends if they can't stand each other, but whatever.

The chemistry between the two characters is lacking. They fight and make each other miserable - there is nothing in the prose, save the boring factual statements that plainly say so, to indicate that they're even friends! Supposedly he had tried to hook up with her once when he was drunk, and this makes her sour. But honestly, their interaction makes them seem more like strangers. A handful of flashbacks and explanations of their past doesn't make up for the poor style and plot.

Freya's breaking point comes when she is invited to her younger stepsister's gala-of-the-century wedding and has to bring Jack along, only for Jack to fool around with the bride-to-be. Freya gets mad because she had been having feelings for him. So she, of course, runs.

The ending, I must say, is cute, a semi-original ploy to get the two together. It was the only thing that saved this awful book.

I tried to like it. I really did, I gave it a chance. But I went through it waiting for that spark, for something to HAPPEN! I was disappointed. It was boring. Not funny. Not witty. Not action-packed. Not convincing. Just boring.

Summary: LOVED IT!!
Review: This book was sooo amazing! I read it in one day, once i opened it I couldn't put it down. The characters where developed wonderfully and before long you felt as though you were the characters and understood everything they were feeling. Although the end is a bit predictable, the middle of the story takes a number of unexpected twists that keept it interesting and excitintg. This is a must read!!!

Summary: Just Friends is Just Fun!
Review: This is the tale of Freya. She's a new yorker (displaced from England) in her early 30's & single. The novel begins with her going out with her boyfriend to an expensive meal. She believes he is going to propose to her, when in actuality, he wants to break up. So begins the hijinks that carry on for the rest of this book. Freya moves in with her friend Jack and begins to date men through personals in the back of a magazine. But it's the last place she looks where she finds true love. But is it too late? Read this novel to find out. It's well written, funny, & the characters are well developed. I'd recommend it as a good vacation or airplane read.

Summary: An Entertaining Tale
Review: Though from the start you could probably guess where the book would end up, I found this a thoroughly amusing read. Each chapter always left me longing to know what would happen next. I do, however, agree that Cat and Michael could have been developed a little more. Overall, a satisfying read.
