Summary: Wonderfully written
Review: I was in that state of mind where I absolutely needed to have a fluffy book in my lap. So off I went to the bookstore, headed to my normal hangout, and then I see this new book on display that wasn't there last time. Naturally, I snatch it up and took it home. I didn't put it down till I was through with it. The entire storyline had me hook, line and sinker. It's obvious what it's about, really, but if you're into that whole debate on whether guys and girls can be just friends, you're in for a wild ride when you pick up "Just Friends" and Robyn Sisman's take on the entire situation. Fantabulous!

Summary: no good
Review: I was very disappointed in this book. The story was slow and the female character made me want to strangle her. A disappointment.

Summary: Old premise but with a fresh twist
Review: If you are or know someone who ends up with the best friend from the opposite sex....you'll definitely love this book. But I guess this book is for everyone who enjoys light humorous reading. Yes, the storyline is a little bit lame and it is predictable but there are moments in the book too that will make you realize the two main characters: Freya and Jack are really meant for each other. This is the second Robyn Sysman book I have read. Her other book "Perfect Strangers" is even better but the last time I check it's [online store] doesn't have it yet. I bought mine through the Uk site. You may want to check that one out too!

Summary: Predictable
Review: If you like predicable books, then this one is for you. Not only is the setting highly unoriginal, but so are the cast of characters. There is Candence the young, blond girlfriend of Jack, the feminist best friend (Cat) who eventually falls in love after swearing off men, and Jack the long time male friend who is just a pal. The main character (Freya) is a thirty something British woman who eventually returns home to face her family. If you think this sounds familiar, it is. The book is quite descriptive, but almost to a fault. I found myself skimming and even skipping paragraphs. That being said, I did race through the end of the book as I was quite anxious to see how it all turned out....even though I already knew how it would end. If you haven't read any recent "romantic comedies" (think Ralph's Party, think Bridget Jones, think Watermelon) then this will seem new, and in that case, perhaps enjoyable.

Summary: Compelling, with great advice through observations.
Review: Just Friends is one of the best books I have ever read and I think everyone should take the time to read this. The book contains a wonderful story, that makes you feel you can relate to the characters. If you don't pick this up, you are missing out on wonderful exchanges and thought.

Summary: Just Great!
Review: Just when you've given up on single-woman-from-New-York novels, you read a book that's so intelligent and witty that it redeems the entire genre. Just Friends is a tale of two New York friends who struggle with love's greatest pitfalls. I love the friendship between Freya and Jack, and I love the sharp dialogue and keen wit between the aforementioned protagonists. This novel has reaffirmed my faith in "Chick Lit," and I look forward to reading more work from this author...

Summary: Was OK
Review: Not disappointed I read it, but I have read better books in this style.

Liked the main character "Freya", beliveable.

Fun ending, interesting twist near the end.

Basically Jack and Freya, friends for years, Jack is a writer with writers block, Freya gets dumped by her boyfriend near the beginning....will they get together or not? There is something familiar about the plot (it seems there is a standard formula to to many of these types of novels)....but I still enjoyed it.

Summary: This plot has been done before
Review: Overall, I have to say that I was disappointed in this book. The book jacket promo sounded promising, but the more I read of this book, the more I had a sense of deja vu. These characters and the plot seemed to be re-treads.

The novel follows British native Freya, a thirty-something woman with a wild streak who is now living in Manhattan, as she is dumped by her fiancee and forced to enter the dating scene again. Freya moves in with a good friend, Jack, a ladies man and supposedly talented writer who spends more time partying than attending to his career. As I said before, other writers have used similar characters and plotlines and done it much more effectively (Jane Green comes to mind). In my opinion, the popularity of the Bridget Jones novel and movie have spurned a good number of knockoffs by writers who are far less capable than Helen Fielding. "Just Friends," sadly, falls into this category. If you're wedded to these kinds of novels, you may like "Just Friends." My advice would be to save your money and if you must read it, check it out from the library.

Summary: OK
Review: Robyn Sisman has a way for ending stories just when things start to get really romantic between the characters. I had a fun and interesting read, up until 'The End' which was the part i was dying to find out. I ended the book, with feeling dissatisfied. I wish she explained more on how the two main characters, Freya and Jack, confront each other on their true feelings for each other.
Still, i enjoyed reading the book. It's a fine book to read when you're stuck at home while it's raining outside. I loved the way she describes everything so vividly, making me feel as though i was part of the world 'they' lived in. Her way of writing made me feel that i was included in the plot, and at some point, i find myself murmuring 'Why the hell did you do that, jerk?!'or 'Come on, just DO IT!', as if i have a way to command these characters to do it MY way!
Although the fiery on-and-off attraction between Freya and Jack gets me motivated to flip the book till the end, i feel that the relationship between Michael, Freya's ex, and Cat, Freya's best friend, was even more interesting to read. They had more depth and passion in their relationship. It was much more complex and i certainly thought that, Robyn Sisman should just write a book about Michael and Cat.
Just Friends is the kind of book, that you just know how it's gonna end the minute you saw the cover, but you bought it anyway, because the cover was attractive and LOOKS FUN! But, if Robyn Sisman had wrote about Michael and Cat, yeah, it's gonna end ' happily ever after', but the journey would be filled with drama and so many emotions, like betrayal, guilt and desire.
For Just Friends, the journey was slow and sometimes, predictable, but i guess it's closer to real life, where romance is not really as exciting as you want it to be.
You'll meet characters that will disgust you, because they possess ill feelings that you don't want to be associated with , such as : jealousy and being materialistic. But, i agree that the main characters are not very lovable either, as the author reveals all of their strength and weaknesses, which is what makes them so real.
One Thing's For Sure : Guys and Girls Can't NEVER Be Just Friends. Why do you want to be his 'best friend' when you can be more than that?

Summary: Just Delightful
Review: Robyn Sisman has hit the mark with this new book. "Just Friends" is a delightful romp, that certainly wasn't what I expected when I picked it out. It's full of great scenes and I just love the mix of settings. You would think this could be classified with the whole "brig jones".."lucy sullivan" family... but, you'd be off the mark. While I am a huge fan of those books, this books takes a whole new twist and the ending is a bit of a shocker. Give it a shot... I think you'll like it.
