Rating: Summary: Going from 1840-1996 Review: Running Out of Time is a fantastic book. It takes place in 1996 but Jessie and her family think it's 1840. They are stuck in a historical preserve in Clifton, Indiana. Suddenly, a deadly disease is wiping out all of Clifton. Jessie's mother sends Jessie into the present world to get medicine to treat the epidemic. With all of the modern day inventions, Jessie finds that there are many things she didn't know about. She has to overcome a lot of obstacles so she can help all the disease victims in Clifton.
Rating: Summary: From Past to Present Review: I thought that this book was very enjoyable. It had an interesting plot that kept you hooked throughout the entire story. It made you think. It was about a girl named Jessie who was living in the 1800s, or so she thought. When an epidemic hit the village of Clifton, her mother revealed the truth. They were really living in 1996 in Indiana. She had to go out into the "real" world. For her it was scary and different from her 1800's life. The new technology like cars, telephones ect... confused her because she had never witnessed such luxuries before. It is a fasinating page turner that you can't put down. I would reccomend this book to others.
Rating: Summary: Out of time Review: Running out of timeI really liked "Running out of time" it was fun and it left us hanging at the end of every chapter. It's very good and cool that in a little town it is 1840 and back in real life it is in the 1990's.
Rating: Summary: This book is great! Review: Running out of time is about a girl named Jessie who is living in a time warp. Jessie has to go out into the real world to get help. I really liked this book because it gives a lot of clues about where Jessie is going and how she will help.
Rating: Summary: Running out of Time review Review: Running out of Time is a pretty good book. But the first two or three chapters are sort of boring. I would recommend this book to kids who are about 8-13 years old. The book is about a girl who lives in the 1840's but it is really 1996. I like the book because the author leaves you hanging at the end of almost every chapter.
Rating: Summary: A Must Read Book Review: This book was excellent! It keeps you on the edge of your seat and has exciting and unexpected twists. Every character seems real and none are alike. The book is really descriptive and makes you seem like your really there. This book is really good. I hope you like it as much as I did!
Rating: Summary: Interesting concept; shaky execution Review: I really enjoyed the concept behind this book. A teenager living in 1996 who thinks it's 1840? Intriguing. Haddix had a great idea, and creates a lot of suspense by providing elements of surprise, wonder, and danger. There were a few weak points, though. The plot provides some twists towards the end that require some serious suspension of disbelief, and the ending is a little bit pat for my taste. But this book stands apart from a lot of the other young readers titles out there, and I think it offers a fairly interesting comparison/contrast between life today and life in the 1840s. If you liked this book, you'll want to check out Lois Lowery's The Giver.
Rating: Summary: horrible & terrible book Review: I'm 11 years old.if there was a button for 0 stars i would have picked that. My teacher read this book outloud to us and it was terrible. i don't know why this book got a kid pick seal, because over 1/2 of my class thought it was bad, too. It was hard to follow sometimes because of how jessie goes from a pioneer country to 1996 and all of a sudden she just finds out it's the 90s. why would a mom tell a kid that it's the 1800s when it's the 90s? read something better than this book.
Rating: Summary: Don't waste you TIME Review: This is the worst book I've ever read in my entire life. My teacher assigned it to us to read and I could never get into it. I mean, how unrealistic! Like a girl would be living in the pioneer days and a disease comes and, oh my gosh! I have to go to the year 2000 to get medicine! How stupid! Especcialy because even pioneer people would know a little bit about the outside world. If your thinking about trying running out of time, don't WASTE your time.
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: This was a teriffic book! Ms. Haddix made everything seem so real in Jessie's quest to escape from Clifton to get medicine for her sister and all the other dying children. You see, Jessie thinks she lives in 1840, in a small village called Clifton. But really, Jessie lives in 1996, in a tourist site where people can come and watch her do her chores, etc. When a diphtheria epidemic strikes the village, Jessie's mother tells her the truth, and sends her out to 1996 to find medicine for the children. Right before she leaves, Jessie's sister comes down with it, which makes Jessie try even harder. This is a great book about learning a new culture and trying to fit in. It might not strike you immeaditly, but this is a book about fitting in, as well as murder and trying to get help. This is a book that you will love for many years to come!
