Rating: Summary: A huge disappointment and a waste of money Review: First and foremost, i had been a Tamora Pierce fan for a long time when i read this (i started reading them about 3 years ago)and Tamora Pierce's Immortals and Lioness quartets are were the books that first brought me into fantasy. In fact, The Immortals and the Lioness Quartet i still consider good novels, but these books (the whole series presumably, i couldn't get past the first few pages of the second book) has to be the biggest disappointment in my life. I actually bought all four books at once because of the faith i had in Tamora Pierce's writing and i really don't know what happened to her. First, the characters are severely underdeveloped. I found myself liking none of them and more disliking them because of their extremely childish nature (maybe i was getting too old for these books?). I found that the author was just writing a scenario and then rolling a die to decide which character was going to say what. It also was very, well, plotless. Something happens...another something happens...nothing changes...Sandry goes to weave something...sorry, but some sort of structure would have helped. This lack probably has to do with the vast number of books Pierce is spewing out. Does she even have time to think about them? This combined with that her books usually follow a similar idea and maybe i was just getting sick and tired of her style. If you like fantasy (or her other series), i would suggest something more sophisticated (i could honestly write as well or better than Pierce) like Robert Jordan or Jennifer Roberson. Oh yes, and one more thing that bothered me was the immature writing style, particularly in the last scene. Honestly, i couldn't understand what she was trying to write! It was obvious that she knew what was happening but couldn't manage to put it into comprehensible words. My advice-don't waste your money or your time.
Rating: Summary: Really great book Review: This book is really great. I just finished reading this one and soon I'll go on to reading the rest of the series. Tamora Pierce is so descriptive and when I read her books I can picture everyone and see where they are and all that stuff. It's really great how in the book everyone starts out and they are all different. There's the thief, the trader, the wealthy girl, and teh Kaq. But they all become the best of friends and they are all mages. The book was really great but not quite a 5 star. I'm looking forward to reading they rest of the series.
Rating: Summary: her other books r better... Review: i finished this book about 6 hours after i got it, and in all honesty, it really didnt satisfy me much. this is mostly because they seemed slightly childish to me, compared to tamora pierce's other works. i was 13 when i read this book, and i think that this was also a factor. for younger kids this book is excelent. for those 13 and over its just annoying. ifr ur over 13 and this intrested u try 'alanna; the first adventure' instead. if ur 12 or younger go for it, ull probably like it.
Rating: Summary: A Captivating Story of 4 Kids Review: Tamora Pierce has created a fresh, new world of magic in the first book of her quartet,"Circle of Magic". Filled with never before thought of magic, the main characters Sandry, Tris, Daja, and Briar work their magic in needlework, weather, smith's crafts, and gardening. This adventure about young kids discovering their capabilities will, amaze, astonish, and entertain at the same time. After reading "Sandry's Book," you'll be eager to read Tris's, Daja's, and Briar's just as well.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: I thought this was a very good book. The reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it got confusing at times. In the beginning it's hard to follow what each character is doing. If you're reading this book, don't give up it has an awesome ending!
Rating: Summary: Sandry's Book Review: This book is about 4 different kids who come together only by one person. They all have different kinds of magic such as, fire, plant, storm, and weaving. Sandry has the weaving kind of magic. They are all set in for an adventure which they have to work together or else their death will be a down fall. The kids names are, Briar-plant magic, Tris- storm magic, and Daja- metal/fire magic, and I already said Sandry has weaving magic. The reason why I gave it four stars was because it was kind of confusing at times but overall it was good.
Rating: Summary: Not as exciting and interesting as Lioness and Immortals Review: Sandry's Book was okay. The character development was not the best. I liked Tamora Pierce's other books better, because they were much more exciting and it wasn't ALWAYS OBVIOUS what the characters will do next. So if you haven't read the Song of the Lioness or the Immortals Quartets and you are thinking about reading the Circle of Magic first please STOP!!!!!! Read the other ones first and realize the best that this amazing author can do.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not great..... Review: I first became a Tamora Pierce fan with the Alanna Series (Lioness Quartet), and then soon after read her Immortals series. Compared to them, this book is rather slow. I could relate to Alanna throuought her daily struggles with romance, secrecy and magic. But for some reason these young characters didn't seem to click. The 4 children that come from different backgrounds slowly become friends and discover that they were brought to Winding Circle to develope their unique kind of magic. I even found the climax slighly boring and predictable. It seems the only thing that keeps me reading is the fact that it looks like it might get better. I'm currently reading the next book in the series "Tris's Book" and hope that that one catches my interest a bit more. Please don't get me wrong, this book is exquisitely written, it just seems to be lacking a few of the traits I enjoy so much in fantasy books.
Rating: Summary: sandry's book Review: this is a really good book. even thought some of the stuff that happens in this book could never happen, the characters seem like real people that are easy to relate with.sandry(lady sandraline fa toren) has thread magic, briar(the ex street rat roach)has plant magic, daja(the ex trader named a trangshi), has magic working with metals, tris(trisana, a merchant),has weather magic.the great mage, nicklaren goldeye brings each of them to winding circle temple, where they each have trouble fitting in.they then go to disipline cottage, where they meet eachother, and find their new teachers w/ the same power as theirs.i recomend this to antone who loves to read, and has a good imagination.
Rating: Summary: wow, totally unexpected!! Review: I finished the Alanna series a while ago and went on the net to discover more books by the author. I was in for a total surprise. This was a turely awsome book. I didn't expect time to go by so slowly, for in Alanna, every few years was a book. The time at first was a little wierd for me, but once I started I just had to keep going. The characters are so wonderful. I liked how the book used ideas, such as weaving and gardening into magic. It opened up my mind into a new view of magic. It took me a while to get started for there was just so much that was interesting that I didn't want to miss anything, but then I just kept reading. It was a truely wonderful book about friendship, magic, fitting in, and so much more. I recomend this book to anyone who loves anything about fantasy and friendship.
