Summary: Nothing But The Truth
Review: Summary
Have you ever read a novel that was written in documentary format? In the book Nothing but the Truth it had the twist and turns like all stories. The main character is Phillip Malloy. Phillip is the one of the character in which he is liked by all the other kids. His goals for his first year in High School was to join on the track team and have everyone like him. When the class changes he had got a new English Teacher and a new homeroom, Teacher named Miss Narwin. Phillip said funny things in class to make everyone like him. So when his favorite sport was about to begin he wanted to go out for the team. The day of tryouts came and that is when his coach said that he could not try out because of his low grades in the new English. Instead of study and doing the homework he still made all the distraction worst. On the homeroom he was singing in class. Then after an couple time that miss Narwin said to stop she sent Phillip down to that Assistant Principal office. Down there he had a talk with him and they said that he would not do it again. On the next day will Phillip do what he was told or will he have to go down to the Assistant Principal.
Response: If I was to give this book a rating from one to ten it would be an eight. See that book was O.K. at the start but in the end it had gotten better. The author Avi had done a good job when writing. One of the only things that he could improve on is that in the book it could of used a little more description of the characters. Because there was no real good description of any of them, like how Phillip and Miss Narwin looks in school.

Review: Summary for Nothing but the Truth
Summary: -Did you ever have a weird ending for a book and you got mad because the book was really good but the ending was weird? Nothing but the Truth is just like that. The book is about this kid named Philip Malloy. He's a freshman in Harrison High School and he is a really good student and he's really good at track, but he just hates this one teacher named Miss. Narwin. Philip always jokes around in her class and she just tells him to stop but he keeps going. Philip then finds out that he is getting a "D" in the class and his coach told him that he couldn't try out for the track team. So Philip gets really mad at Miss. Narwin and he annoys her more. Then Philip does something during the National Anthem that will change his life forever.
Response: - I like the book a lot because I thought the author puts a lot of time into this book because he made the book like a play, so when the reader is reading, you will know which character is talking. The author used a lot of detail so the reader wouldn't get lost when reading the story. He also explained the characters well. Another thing I liked was how the author made the ending because it makes you think and also makes you kind of mad. It made me mad because I wasn't expecting that kind of an ending. I would recommend this book to anyone. To me I would have to rate this book a 9.

Summary: good book
Review: The book Nothing but the Truth is a bout a boy (Phil) and a dispute with one of his teachers (Miss Narwin). The discrepancy is over singing the national anthem during morning announcements. Every morning at Phil's school starts out the same way. First is what's going one with the school and the usual stuff. Announcements end with the national anthem but before starting the song they ask the children stand in respectful silence. Phil chose not to do this because he was angry with his teacher for giving him a bad grade. So Miss Narwin, Phil's new homeroom and English teacher, asks him to stop. When he disobeys her, she then sends him to the assistant Principals office. The assistant Principal gives him a warning and sends him on his way. Phil continues this behavior the next day and is told when a student is sent to the principals two times in one week the student then receives a 3 day suspension. After Phil's parents are called Phil "bends" the truth a bit making him sound 100% innocent and the teacher sound like a antipatriotic grump. From there, the entire story snow balls with facts changing with each time around.
This book was a great source of information on how the educational system works. This book also teaches you to stand up for what you believe in. Phil believed that singing was his right so he did. I think that this book is a good read nice and easy the format was interesting and informative while the story line was not far behind.
I would recommend this book for kids who are into realistic fiction novels looking for a good book. I see this book to best-fit kids 6-12 grade because some things may not be understood as well by younger children.
On a scale of 1-10 I would have to give this book a 9 only because the story was good and interesting but there wasn't any action mainly, just politic and "he said she said" fights.

Summary: My Review
Review: Plot
The plot was not clear at the beginning of the book, there was too little information to understand what was going on. However, as the book went on, it began to make more sense of what was happening. It is somewhat believable because things like that could happen but not often. The main character resolved his conflict but not in the way he would have liked.

Pacing
The story did not maintain my attention until the end of the book when it explained what happened. The story moved too slow although it matched the genre of the story.

Setting
The story did transport me to the time and place where it was happening, the descriptions of the setting made it clear to me where they were. The characters, their actions, and the time frame were agreeable. The order of events were consistent throughout the story.

Characterization
The characters were "real" because they had characteristics of people and what they would do if they were in a situation similar to this one. The protagonist did change throughout the story, the characters' backgrounds were given in manageable pieces.

Dialogue
The language matches the time frame of the story very well, there is some profanity but not that much. There aren't any heavy accents or any other dialogue issues that I saw. Each character has a different pattern of speech just like people do in real life.

Point of View
The novel stays with a lot of the characters' point of views, but it did not make the story confusing.

Summary: Nothing but the Truth
Review: The plot is very believable, as this story happens in real life all the time. The story could start a little sooner, and some of the subplots are irrelevant and just confuse you. The main character does a poor job of handling the problem, and his solution to everything seems a bit childish.
The story moves too slow, and only starts to maintain your attention about 2/3rds of the way through. The pacing didn't really match the type of genre, this kind of story moves faster in real life.
While the story doesn't transport you to the time and place, and there is very little description of the setting, the characters match the time frame. The order of events is fairly consistent throughout the story.
The characters are real, their actions are consistent throughout the story, but the protagonist doesn't change much throughout the story. In fact, we don't even hear from him very often! Avi doesn't say much about the background of the characters.
The language matches the time frame; there is no profanity or heavy accents. It is very easy to figure out what everyone is saying, especially as everyone talks the same.
The thing you remember most about this story is how it is written. It is purely memos, conversations, and a few speeches. Every page you are jumping around. While you catch on eventually, it is hard to keep track of what is going on.

Summary: lessons learned
Review: In the book Nothing But The Truth there is a boy named Philp Malloy he really wants to be on the track team but he has a D in his english class. Since he has the D he can not be on the track team.

Since Phil wants to be on the track team he comes up with a plan to get out of her class. His plan wasa to get kicked out of her class.

When he gets to his class in the morning he sangs the nation anthem to disturb class so his teacher sent him to the office and he is suspened. Phils suspened gets to be a big deal and no one want it to be a big deal.

Since it gets to be a big deal the school does not get a raise in the budget cut and his teacher almost gets fired. If I learned any thing at all it was that you can't do something just out of anger to some one.

Summary: nothing but the truth
Review: The characters in the book nothing but the truth are mostly mean but Philip is one of the few that reminds me of some people that I know. The person Philip reminds me of is myself because I have a teacher like Mrs.Narwin reminds me of.
I think that the author of this book used the characters in the the book nothing but the truth, because it felt like it could happen in my own life because I have a teacher like Mrs.Narwin.
The teacher in this book seem like I knew her because everybody tries to joke around with our english teacher but most of the time she tells me to be quiet and do my work and thats why I usally makews bade grades in her class.
I wish my teacher could try to understand me when I try to kid aaround with her but most of the time I get in trouble but I am really trying to get good grades in her class and I wish that she could understand that.

Summary: nothin but the truth
Review: I just read the book nothing but the truth. And i learnd about having good character, standing up for what i think is right, back down from a situation and responsibility.
In the book it shows Philps parnets stand up for what phipl has told them so they think they r doing ther right thing by standing up for there son.Butwhat they dont no is philp is telling them his side of the story just because he wants out of her english class because he has a c in her classand he cant be on the track team because of it.
But at the end of the book he gets switched hoomroom classes but that wasnt what he wanted he wanted out of her english instead of hoomroom. What he had been doing to his old teacher, that he said she was bugging him about the new teacher ask him to do it and he did no the words so the book ended out being a total surprise.

Summary: Patriotism or Disrespect?
Review: Have you ever read a book that you think you know what will happen next, but then, it turns out as something unexpected. It always seems to be leaving you hanging. But have you ever thought "hey, this book is irony?" Probably not, because most people don't take the time to think if something is irony or not.
In "Nothing But The Truth," Philip is a 9th grader that is always intending to get on people's nerves. Then, all of a sudden, one morning, an intense idea came to that little brain of his. He decides to hum along while the tape of the national anthem is played. He blames the teacher for his failure to cooperate. How is this showing patriotism?
Because I read this book, it changed the way I look at the American flag and how I choose to show my patriotism. But I can say one thing for sure. I won't choose to show in the way Philip did. He was showing disgrace, disrespect, and an opposing attitude toward the United States of America.
