Summary: Lessons Learned
Review: Some lessons learned in the book Nothing but the Truth. Philip singed "The Star Spangled Banner" just to do it to get Ms. Narwin mad at him so she would make him leave the classroom. He got suspended for two days. He told his parents that Ms. Narwin had it in for. His dad told Philip that he was proud of his son for standing up for his beliefs and his rights. His parents belived everything that he said. Everything got out of hand and everyone found out about it. Philip learned not to say stuff thats not true. The kids at school belived Ms. Narwin and they bothered Philip about it and Philip didnt like that school. So he went to Washington Academy.

Summary: Nothing but the Truth
Review: In the book Nothing but the Truth Philip Malloy is a good kid who lies about his patriotism at school. This escalates and blows up in the boys face because instead of backing off of the issue he continues to force the issue, was really his fault. Which soon leaks into the press and eventually destroys both peoples lives that are involved. His parents were also standing behind him with the whole "patriotic" approach which they weren't really that patriotic in the first place. He was just being a brat. He had to have learneda lesson from this whole ordeal, I know anyone else whould have learned to not use their parents support in such a way and not to lie about anything not matter how big or how small.

Summary: Writing Style
Review: Most fiction stories are in narritive style, but in this plot in theme I think think that the documentary style is very affecitve. This style shows the different point of views from each character. Some people say that this takes away from the story because it doesn't introduce the characterts as in a narritive style writings, but in my point of view I think it gives us more than just an introduction it gives there personality in a way that makes fill that you are there and in the minds of the characters and that makes it more realistic. You
might not know about their out ward apperience, but you know about their inward apperience by reading the documents that they wrote like Philip Malloy's diary told what he was thinking that he didn't tell anyone aloud. The phone conversations between the school staff and the reporters were affective because it told how and why the reporters got their information.

Summary: Nothing But the Truth Review
Review: Nothing But the Truth, by Avi, is an excellent example of irony. It, unlike any book that I have personally read, has a variety of surprises that sets in action a chain of events that then follows through to another surprise. And so on and so forth.
One of the surprises that I enjoyed, was watching how big such a two-day suspension became. It was ironic that Ms. Narwin was attacked by people all over the nation just because Phillip made a failing grade in literature. Under most circumstances, nothing would have happened as a result of his suspension. However, because of Phillip's lie that he told his parents, his susupension soon became a national controversy.
My favorite example of irony in this book is when Phillip reveals to us at the end of the book, that he doesn't even know the words to the Star Spangled Banner. The reason for the whole problem has nothing to do with anything that the people believe is happening.
Another example is the title itself. The words "nothing but the truth" imply that no lies are taking place. However, the truth is that the truth is actually not being told. Lies are the only thing that keeps that story going.
Overall, if you enjoy books or stories that are about or have to do with a sense of irony, then I recommend this book to you. Not only do you get to enjoy the surprises that are consistently revealing themselves, you also get to get a perspective on the 1st ammendment views which might just give you a new way to look at things.

Summary: Nothing But The Truth Reveiw
Review: The book Nothing But The Truth, by Avi, is written in a documentary style, meaning that the story is expressed through different documents, such as letters or memos. Any conversations are set up like a script. While it's refreashing to read a book that is different in this way, it makes the book boring. What I mean is that because it's made up of documents, there aren't any descriptions of character's appearance, and the reader just has to imagine what the places in the book are like. As a result, the book doesn't seem as magical; it doesn't take you away to a different place.
Nothing But The Truth's writing style is also disappointing because it can't say what a character is feeling or what they look like when he or she is talking. As I mentioned above, the conversations are written like a script, with the character's name, and then what they say. No descriptions. No emotions. The only real exception to this is the main chacter's diary. In it, you know what he is feeling because he tells you. Other than that, it's just guesswork as to the emotions of the characters.
Due to the lack of description and emotion in this book, I feel that it was simply uninteresting. A fiction book is supposed to make it seem like you're actually living the story. Nothing But The Truth fails to do so.

Summary: Writing Styled
Review: I don't really appreciate the writing style throughout the book. I would much more appreciate a plain old novel do to the lack of understanding the formal documents. I do however like the idea of both sides of the story whereas a novel would be more lenient to Phillip's or Miss NArwin's view. The documentary kind of feel also makes it impersonal. OK, you see Phillip talking to his parents, the only hint of the feelings that Phillip is going through is in his diary. I also like a well pictured character with descriptions, and so forth. With the style of writing I would rate the book a 2 out of 5, but everything else is fantastic.

Summary: Lessons Learned In Nothing But The Truth
Review: There were many lessons learned in Nothing But The Truth. For example, people might learn to stand up for what they believe in. When Phillip got suspended for singing the national anthem, they started standing up for patriotism. Like when Ted Griffen kept making speeches saying he would get patriotism back in school.
Another example is parental support. Phillp's father eventually told him to stand up for patriotism. His mother was always by his side, supporting him. This helped Phillip calm down. It could help you too.
Last of all, people could learn to tell the truth from reading Nothing But The Truth. Phillip learned because when he lied, he got a big commotion started. If he would have told the truth, it would've saved him a lot of trouble.
There are many lessons you could learn from this book. These were just a few. I encourage you to read Nothing But The Truth, and learn from it.

Summary: Nothing But the Truth (Irony)
Review: In Nothing But the Truth, the surprizes in the book
would have to be when Miss Narwin resigned. She loved her job and her students, the last thing that Miss Narwin would do or even think about would be to resign. Another surprize would have been when Philip Malloy won the whole sha-bang, he didn't feel happy for himself like he thought that he would, he acted as if he wasn't happy with himself, the that he treated Miss Narwin.
I wouldn't say that the name of the book would ba an example of irony. Nothing But the Truth, dosn't really give an example of really much anything, but the vibe of the story about lies in the begining, but the truth in the end.

Summary: True Lessons
Review: Things that you can learn are very important. Even in a book and that is where you get most of your information. A book is about having good pointer on things. But so books can put things that are not good for people that will read.
For example, a good book will have character that go though something or another. A book can then have gracefully backing down from a bad situation.
But over all you can get all kinds of styles of books. Make shore that you put one that will fit you best. Nothing that you going to throw down but put up. So make the write choice in your book.

Summary: Nothing But the Truth
Review: You can learn alot from this book. You can learn that there are rules at schools that you have to have passing grades to play sprots. That if you want something done make sure you get the right thing done. Like in the book he wanted his grades higher grades and changing the rule so you can sing. That you should stop or you could get in more trouble than you want too. I think you should stand up for what you think is right because that wat you won't be pushed around and to try to get something done what you think is rgiht. And you should back down like if a teacher tells you to do something did support what Philip though was right even if no body eles was with him or didn't think he was right. The first Amendments right the one mostly said in the book was religion. Philip said he was being pulation or it was his region to sing the star spangled banner. There was alot of responsibilitty in the book. The chain of command it was Philp getting supend.
