Summary: This book is OK, but it needs better directions
Review: I thought this book was Ok. I bought the latest version and did get to see some great stuff that I would not have found on my own. The directions to attractions and local events were very confusing and sometimes just outright wrong. All in all it was an OK guide. The free cd was great!!

Summary: Not so underground
Review: I was expecting to read about all the hidden spots, but this is mostly just a restaurant guide. Not the first person account with great recommendations that I expected. It has a lot of general information, but no underground info such as which beach is great because of certain characteristics, no recommendations on helicopter tours- just a small section that describes what a beach is and what a helicopter tour is.

Summary: Conscientious Writer - nicely written
Review: Kauai is a pleasant, beautifully crafted review of many of the highlights on this amazing island. If you're looking for rigorous detail on minutiae about good companies and bad, look elsewhere. This work celebrates the best the island offers and should be treated as such.As a testament to the conscientiousness of the writer, I have pointed out some details to him and he is willing to do follow up research. That's a hell of alot more than most would do. I respect that. May this work continue to grow and flourish!

Review: We bought this book because of its reviews on Amazon and found much of the same information for free in the handouts at the airport and supermarket. We ended up using it for restaurant recommendations.

Summary: Helpful guide
Review: I used this book in conjunction with another sports related guidebook. This book gave me excellent generalized information to get around in Kauai. It's well laid out and easy to follow. The beautiful pictures were helpful. It has a good restaurant guide, fairly accurate. The best bonus for me is the complementary sampler hawaiian music CD. I'm listening to it as I am writing out this review. The music is great and it makes me want to hurry back to Kauai.

Summary: Keep it within reach!
Review: My wife and I had the special privilege of visiting Kauai in May and, thankfully, chose to take the Kauai Underground Guide with us. The book is precise in its descriptions of which restaurants provide the best meals and how to find the numerous breathtaking beaches on the Garden Isle. Those who have been to Kauai know that most of the island is off the beaten track and not marked by road signs. We had the guide with us at all times and used it everyday. For anyone thinking about visiting Kauai, do it! You never feel like a tourist on the Kauai, you feel like a visitor. The island welcomes you and makes you feel at home. Kauai, for us, was natural beauty and solitude. It is nice to know that there still are places in this world that offer both. Thanks, Lenore, for your book; I wish we could visit as often as you! Summary: Helpful Author/Awesome Hawaiian Music CD
Review: We needed information quickly to prepare for a trip to Kauai. I found this book and was drawn by it's cover and the Free Music CD (which contains five beautiful songs by my favorite Hawaiian artist, Keali'i Reichel). After browsing through the book, I checked the website and found an email address. The author, Lenore, answered my questions within a few hours. She continued to answer my questions and gave individual advice, based on our family's needs. Some of my favorite sections include: Traveling with Children, What to Pack, Favorite Beaches, Snorkeling, and Restaurant Guide. Best advice from author: When snorkeling, take anti-biotic ointment and bandaids for scrapes, AND take fish food in plastic baggies to disperse slowly. Buy this book, ENJOY the CD, check out the website, and email Lenore with any specific questions.

Summary: Definitely worthwhile reading
Review: Lenore Horowitz does a superb job of explaining in detail the best locations on Kauai. We used it continually as a reference while traveling there with two small children. Her recommendations on beaches were especially insightful...coming from the midwest, beach information is a must. It is obvious that this book was written by someone who knows the island well and didnt just visit it once and decide to write a guidebook. Kauai has been her family vacation destination for years.
