Summary: MANIAC MAGEE REVIEW
Review: This book was so good for a lot of things.Jerry Spinelli and the way he uses his words and makes it more interesting. that is one of the reasons the book is so good. I liked it because it made you in suspense a lot. I liked it so much I want to read the next book Jerry Spinelli comes out with. I know it will be so good. I liked how Maniac managed to live also. Some parts in the book were silly and some were sad I liked all the good parts. I would defintly read this book again!

Summary: Maniac Magee
Review: This book was ok, I have read better, but I do like this book. It did have many great parts such as the part when maniac makes a spectacle of himself also, the part when Maniac when Maniac was the only one that could off of John McNabb. One of my favorite parts in the book is when Maniac unties Cobble's Knot. My favorite chapter in the book is chapter 14 because its when things start looking good for Maniac.... I liked this book but it wasn't great as I said in the beginningi would give it a three on a scale 1-5.

Summary: Maniac Magee
Review: Maniac Magee This ia a review on Maniac Magee. I think the book was alright but not the greatest. A book like that is really not my kind of book. I don't like adventure books but books like action or some sort. I did not like the book that much because of the story line. The author did put great words in it and showed you that his writting is differant compared to other authors such as R.L Stein, but the book was not that great. From a scale 1-5, I would probably give it a 2or3. My favorite part of the book was when Maniac hit a home run off Mcnabb. My favorite chapter was 15 because Maniac was getting fame and more popular.

Summary: great reading for children (and adults, too)
Review: I started reading this book to my children. When it was time to stop for the night, I tucked the kids in and kept reading until I finished the book. I was so touched by Jeffrey (Maniac) Magee's story. I think Jerry Spinelli did a wonderful job dealing with racism and tolerance of differences in general. I also like the way he kept Maniac running from his inner demons until the end. This is a funny, touching, immensely enjoyable book. I highly recommend it.

Summary: A Life-changing story?
Review: It was for me. When I was 7 years old and in the 2nd I had never read a novel before, not even a shorter one. I didn't much care for reading, I thought it was boring. My teacher, however, saw right through me. When our class made its weekly trip to the library, she recommended this book to me. She told me that if I started to read this book, I wouldn't be able to stop until I'd finished. Turns out she was right. I ended up skipping recess to read part of the story, I just couldn't get enough of it. I ran straight home from the bus that afternoon and kept reading the book, until I had finished it cover-to-cover. I have loved reading ever since then, and this book, in particular, has left an impression with me that hasn't faded in over ten years.

Summary: Exciting, well-paced, wonderful children's book!
Review: THIS is juvenile fiction! I read it two or three times during elementary school. Loved every minute of it. I remember it as beautiful poetry. Very exotic too, for me, a suburban white kid. GET THIS BOOK for your kid and every other kid you know!

Summary: Amazing...the most potent story I've ever read
Review: Jerry Spinelli has an amazing way with words. The first time I read Maniac Magee, I cried. I have never cried reading a book before. Sitting there sobbing, I re-read in my opinion the most powerful part of the story, when this young boy, only 12, believes no one cares about him and he is useles. After finishing it I re-read it again, and again, and again....

READ IT! It's my favorite book....ever.... I am certain that Mr. Spinelli's next book, which I am reading, Stargirl, will be just as thought provoking.

Summary: Powerful...for people of many ages.
Review: Although I've always been a fan of Jerry Spinelli's writing, this is definitely his best work. Warning: If you're looking for plot summary, read the standard amazon review, 'cause I don't want to repeat it.

It's amazing how Spinelli has managed to take an issue as touchy as racial prejudice and managed to present it in a way that is not only understandable, but very realistic...Spinelli writes with a style that not only tells the story of a poor orphaned kid with famous - nay, legendary - abilities, but also provokes thought on many other issues, including racism, death, seperation, and many other scary but real issues in the lives of America's youth.

I've read this book numerous times over the course of my life, and as I've gotten older (6 years or so have passed since I first read it), I still appreciate the message and story told by this book.

Summary: "a story that is very careful not to get the facts mixed up"
Review: Maniac Magee is the story of one boy and his courage that helped bring about an end to racial prejudice to a central Pennsylvania town, and helped to create a legend. Jeffrey Lionel Magee wanders into Two Mills, PA and instantly creates a larger than life character who can out run a dog, hit a homerun off the best pitcher in town, and win a race by running backwards. Aside from the unbvelievable physical feats Maniac Magee also helps erase the invisible line drawn between the east and west sides of town.

Why is Jeffrey a maniac? Because he can do Houdini-like feats, or because he is willing to confront, albeit unknowingly the status quo of Two Mills?

The slight exaggerations of nearly impossible situations are really brought to life as Spinneli examines real issues such as illiteracy, homelessness and racial prejudice...the story is "real", but it may have been embellished, and I dare say that has made it a great book!

Summary: WOW!
Review: Amazing! I dare say Spinelli's best work. Maniac Magee is ahomeless boy who just doesn't understand why people hate each otherbecause of racial color. This book shows how much prejudice there is in the world, but without being preachy or boring. I read this on school assignment and when the class stopped, I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. It's sad, funny, and touching all at once. Outstanding!
