Summary: What a wonderful change of pace!
Review: I have enjoyed all of the books that I have read by Mr. Patterson. In reading the jacket of "Suzanne's diary for Nicholas" I knew that it was going to be nothing like what I was used to from this author.
This book was so quick to get involved with, and such a fast read, I was disappointed when it ended! I would have liked for it to go on and on, which I always think is an indication of a good book.

Summary: A Superb Love Story
Review: This was not a book I was expecting from James Patterson. I have enjoyed all his Alex Cross novels, but confess to being somewhat disappointed with When the Wind Blows. When I saw the title - Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas - I felt that Patterson was again straying from his strongest genre, that of criminal suspense (i.e., Alex Cross). But I had to give it a try.

What a pleasant surprise! Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas was a romantic tearjerker that ranks among the best of the genre. I felt swept along with the characters (for all of two days, which is how long it took to read, considering how "unputdownable" this book was).

There were enough quirky little twists in the story to make even the most ardent romance/tearjerker enthusiasts wonder just which way the story would end. Anyway, I don't like endings that are too predictable, which is one reason I liked this book so much.

While I'll continue to be an avid fan of Alex Cross novels, I'll be looking forward to more of this type of story from James Patterson. He is truly a writer of many talents.

Summary: Touching.
Review: I was told to read this by my mother. She handed me the book with a box of kleenex. I didn't understand at first why I would need kleenex but soon found out. I could not put this book down. His writing style is so fluid and he weaves the story so simply that you, the reader, are able to fully understand most all aspects of the lives of the characters. It was a beautiful story and one that should not be overlooked. Just be ready to cry and be happy and feel all those other gushy emotions. It was great!

Summary: Pure syrup
Review: A promising beginning which degenerated into unmitigated mush. The characters could all be wearing halos, they are totally unbelievable, all supposed to be beautiful and flawless. An attempt at being a tear jerker. In my case, it failed since no one was real. I can't believe the author was serious. Same genre as Bridges of Madison County and Love Story, only more so.

Summary: Spectacularly talented writer.
Review: With this book, James Patterson has become my favorite contemporary writer. He has displayed a range of comprehension and empathy beyond any writer today. Suzanne's Diary is nothing at all like the thrillers we've eagerly anticipated from Mr. Patterson. Not only will you fall in love with her, you'll weep for Matt.

Summary: An excellent book; love abound!
Review: This is the first James Patterson book I've ever read and was very pleased with this beautiful story.

The heart-felt theme of the story tells of the love between Suzanne and Matt, an odd match coming from two different ways of life. Suzanne was a doctor from Boston, moving to a small town; Matt was a house-painter/handy-man. Their relationship started slowly yet turned into such a beautiful relationship, you can feel yourself turn green with envy. It is so hard to believe a man wrote this story yet it's great to read a story by a man who isn't afraid to share a tale such as this where he opens his heart--his inner emotions--for all the world to view.

I plan on reading more of James Patterson's works, but I don't believe I'll find another one even close to this terrific love story. Great job!

Summary: Wasn't sure he could do it but...
Review: I could not put this book down! I have been reading his novels for years and was surprised that this was a love story. The way the chapters were divided, switching back and forth from Katie to Suzanne, made you feel as if you were almost eavesdropping. It was very intimate.

Anyway, I expected something like Nicholas Sparks and was greatly surprised that it was not. I wasn't sure he could do it but I he did and did it well. I will be giving this book as gifts this holiday!

Summary: What a disappointment!
Review: I was expecting a sophisticated, deeply moving read. Instead, I found a book in which the characters were so superficially drawn that they were completely unbelievable. Although the story is based on events in the author's life, it is hard to believe that everyone was beautiful, and sensitive. That no one experienced genuine feelings of ambiguity or uncertainty -- the kind that every-day people experience. For me, the book felt like one big cliche.

Summary: How in the world did this book get published?
Review: As an avid reader of 2-3 books per week, I cannot recall a worse book that I have read in several years. For one thing, there were HUGE problems with his timeline. Suzanne apparantly met her old boyfriend in 1996, dated him for 4 years, then had a heart attack and later met and married Matt, presumably in 2000 or 2001. However, according to the "diary", she has a baby in 1998 and dies in 1999. I cannot believe that not a single person picked up on this discrepancy before sending the book to the printer. Besides that problem, the book was painfully sappy and predictable, and the characters totally unbelievable. I kept hoping Alex Cross would jump in and save the day, but no such luck.

Summary: great book with amazing story
Review: Far differnt from past novels by James Patterson I was blown away by Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas. From the beginning when katie is dumped by boyfriend Matt and left only a Diary I was hooked. Through out the book you learn to love Susanne but also want Matt to come back to Katie.I laughed and cried while reading, thus so the book passing a true test of the quality, its ability to draw you in and brings out emotions. bravo Patterson, a great romance that everyone who reads is sure to love.
