Rating: Summary: Horrible, horrible book!!! Review: This book was so bad I can't believe it was published. The characters were completely unbelievable. Everyone in the book is perfect with perfect thoughts and perfect experiences. The best part of the book is knowing that baby Nicholas would not have to be raised by his gushing, idiotic mother who obviously had read (and believed) too many Harlequin romance novels. Also, having experienced some of the problems that this woman supposedly did during delivery I can tell you that the descriptions of those problems and how they were solved were completely inaccurate. I felt embarrassed for the author the entire time that I was reading this book. I have never read a James Patterson novel before this one, and I never will.
Rating: Summary: Get real Review: As a new mom who writes a journal to her son, I was told I would relate to much of this book. While I admit, I did cry at certain points, I found the entire thing just too much to take. The characters were one-dimensional and the plot predictable. It tried too hard to be a tear-jerker. And, please, is anyone like the husband? There's never a mention of the strains and pressures on new families, nevermind the real give and take of a relationship. Glad I didn't buy this one.
Rating: Summary: Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas Review: Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas is one of the most moving novels I have ever read. After being abruptly left by her boyfriend, Katie is left heart-broken trying to conceive of an idea for why the man of her dreams would leave her. He was so caring, creative, and handsome. She knew that Matt had been married before, but promised he no longer was; Katie could not find a reason. The next day, Katie finds a package at her door from Matt; it's a diary, Suzanne's diary for her baby son, Nicholas. At first, Katie does not want to read it, but is eventually drawn to the diary. Reading only parts at a time, Katie learns of Suzanne's life obstacles, triumphs, loves, why she left Boston for Martha's Vineyard, and who she met and fell in love with. Katie yearns to hate Suzanne, who loved Matt as much as she did; however, she is not able to and discovers that Suzanne is someone she could have been friends with and cared about. Patterson leaves the reader in suspense of Suzanne and Nicholas's tragic end until Matt's diary entries. Matt's first entry is expected, but the second is extremely surprising, leaving many in tears which continue to flow through the rest of the novel, in sadness and happiness. Patterson creates realistic and plausible characters with a plot that is fairly original and introspective, but does include some fantasized events. There is no one theme that runs throughout the novel, except for the "four balls," work, family, friends, and health. The "four balls" force the reader to reevaluate their lives the same way that Suzanne did. Work is a rubber ball and if dropped can bounce back, yet the others are glass, and once broken, they are gone forever. This is an important, but occasionally, difficult lesson to learn. Congratulations to Patterson on a job well done!
Rating: Summary: Tear Jerker Review: This was such an amazing book. I am an avid James Petterson fan, and his Alex Cross series books are my all time favorites! I picked up this book expecting a cute romance, but nothing to big from a thriller author. I was so completely wrong. Never judge a book by it's cover. Suzanne's Diary For Nicholas is one of the best books I have ever read. I could not put it down, even though I could barely read through my tears at points... it's that good. I highly reccomend it!
Rating: Summary: Mushy, romantic, but you can't put it down! Review: James Patterson deviates from the usual serial murder mystery with this romantic story. Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas is the story of a woman writing to her son. It is also told through the point of view of another woman reading the journal. This is a beautiful story of love, family, tragedy, and recovery. Just when you think the story is predictable and a little too mushy, Patterson delivers a twist that made me cry and also made me recommend this short, quick novel to everyone I see.
Rating: Summary: Suzannes Diary Review: I thought this was a great book. I read it so fast because I had no idea what was going to happen. I thought the story was very realistic and you can relate to both sides. I liked the idea of a diary for your child too. The mother and son relationship was beautiful. It was a down to earth good book.
Rating: Summary: Refreshing new story line from an already great author!! Review: I bought the book because I am a huge Patterson fan. His character Alex Cross is one of my all time favorites. I was a little leary of him trying to write a love story. But I was so amazed at how an author could switch gears so effectively. The book lacks for nothing...it has mystery, love, romance and a tearful end! I couldn't put the book down. Kudos to Patterson for showing how talented of a writer he is...escaping the "Alex Cross" classification! Read this book and experience his talent first hand.
Rating: Summary: A Touching Change of Pace!! Review: This book is a perect example of just how strong a writer James Patterson is!! It proves that Patterson cannot write only incredile male heroes, but also write about a woman as the main heroine. Very few writers can accomplish this. All in all, this book is touching and very sweet.
Rating: Summary: What a lovely book! Review: I could hardly believe, as I read it, that this was the same author who had written all of the Alex Cross books. What a dramatic change from James Patterson! The only similarity, I noticed, was the short chapters. The characters were sympathetic... people I could have been friends with. I really cared about Suzanne and Matt and Nicholas. The storyline was a refreshingly romantic one. Yes, it was syrupy and sappy, but so what! After 9/11, it was wonderful to read something so innocent and full of love. I cried at the end... so heartbreaking and yet such a lovely story too. My one criticism of the book was that it seemed so hard to believe that any sane mother would share with her son the intimate details of her courtship with his father. All of it was in good taste, but I don't think most mothers would tell their sons about how "he carressed me" etc. And frankly, most kids don't want to know that stuff! Still it's enchanting to think that a mother would want to share the beauty of life and love with her child in such a personal way.
Rating: Summary: A sweet story, but a bit too sappy for me. Review: If you like stories dripping with tears, you will probably enjoy this story. The story is about a young woman who meets the love of her life, they marry, have a child, and tragedy is always just around the corner. There doesn't seem to be much uplifting about their lives, except perhaps that the memories they make are very nice. This is a fine escape from reality for awhile, and an overall good read, but the story lacks depth, is too predictable, and is gift wrapped at the end, leaving the reader feeling as though it can be put aside and never thought of again. I prefer stories that leave memories with the reader themselves. Still, as Danielle-Steele-ish as it is, you may find that it is poignant in parts, and touches your heart in others.
