Rating: Summary: Finally, a children's CD adults LOVE!!! Review: After numerous CDs for kids that have made me hold my head in pain and roll my eyes, I finally got this secret CD that adults love as much as kids do. Yay!!! I can't stop singing the songs, and my kids are thrilled with this musical too :)
Rating: Summary: Funny Little Sandra Boynton, We Love You Review: This book/CD combo has been a joyous and wonderful surprise and has gained a permanent place in our "family favorites" list. A gift to our daughter, my husband and I both listen to the CD in the car even when our daughter is not with us. Smart, hilarious, and absolutely charming. Highlights include Scott Bakula crooning "Pig Island, Pig Island, what a glorious place to be"; a half-whispered, hilarious ode to the belly-button ("patty pat pat, baby fat, little round button in the middle of that") (the arrangement sounds strangely like Madonna on the Vogue tour, but all lyrics are clean family fare); and Kevin Kline sounding very much the Modern Major General as he sings "Busy, Busy, Busy." (You'll hum it under your breath at work.) It's ALL good . . . not a dud song on the CD . . . and the accompanying book is colorful, delightful, and full of Boynton's trademark animals. We can't recommend this highly enough to anyone who enjoys a good musical . . . we're talking to grownups here, not just kids . . . this is good stuff.
Rating: Summary: Parents love it too! Review: My 6-year-old son has been a fan of Sandra Boynton's books since birth (her Going to Bed Book was the first bedtime story we read to him). I have been a fan of her artwork on greeting cards, mugs, etc. for much, much longer! After reading the reviews I decided to get Philadelphia Chickens for my son for Christmas this past year. I was a little apprehensive since some of the poems were already in other books we had read. But the music! Ah, the music! My son absolutely loves the book and CD. He listens to a CD to fall asleep at night. We couldn't use this one because it kept him up, listening to every word! Now we use it to wake him up in the morning. We loved the book/cd so much that I turned around and bought copies for his cousins. My sister-in-law says it was a mixed gift - now she can't get the songs out of her head! Great CD for both kids and their parents.
Rating: Summary: Love this CD Review: This was bought as a gift for my sons, and now we listen to the CD in the car all the time. (The other day, my husband and I noticed that the kids had gone to sleep, but _we_ were enjoying it so much that we didn't turn it off!) Unlike many kid CDs, this is one that parents don't mind listening to over and over again... which is good, because your kids will want to! Each song is done in a different style, from bluesy "torch singer" style to jive to folksy... Keeps it from being monotonous.
Rating: Summary: I Love This Music! Review: I have several of Sandra's books. My 7 month old loves all of them, so I decided to try this musical. I absolutely love it. I find myself singing along with the words and laughing out loud. I have now ordered this book for every young person in our family. What a great gift!
Rating: Summary: The Single Best Children's CD Out There! Review: I bought several Boynton books for our new infant. One of them, "Snuggle Puppy," referred to the music being found on the recording "Philadelphia Chickens." Since my husband and I tried to "guess" at what the tune would sound like, we decided to pick up the CD and maybe it might be interesting to our baby. Oh my goodness!! Never would we have imagined such a smorgasbord of musical childhood delicacies! Our baby LOVES it...He grins SO big whenever the "Cows" song comes on...he knows it's time to get ready for bed and that he has a nice 4-5 song "winding down" time (until mom and dad sing him "Snuggle Puppy" together with Eric Stolz). This has become part of our nightly sleepytime ritual and it makes it so easy to get him to sleep -- because he knows he gets to listen to this CD until he drifts off. We bought several other CDs -- my husband and I are both very musical -- but this is truly the single best one out there!!! I hope that there will be a sequel or follow-up and I wholeheartedly agree with the person who wrote "please make this a traveling revue!!" I, personally, want to see the "Cows" chorus line (and I know my son would love it, too!) My best friend is pregnant with her first and I gave her this as a very "important" must-have. Everyone needs a little whimsy and songs that are fun for mom and dad AND kids to sing, too!!
Rating: Summary: More, More!! And where is the video cartoon?? Review: We eat drink and sleep this CD. Our 16-month old granddaughter is addicted to the song "Remarkable Cows" and must hear it at least 3 times a day - we have had to ration it. The CD is very fun for adults too - we have introduced our friends to it and even heard it played at a party!
Rating: Summary: Clever and Witty Review: This is a great CD for family fun in the car or at home. My children and I enjoy dancing around to the happy beat. The lyrics are clever and witty, and easy for children to memorize. (My 2 1/2 yr old daughter is always singing these songs.) This is a great and interesting alternative to other kids music. The book is another great Boynton book with colorful and charming illustrations.
Rating: Summary: Toddler Fave Review: We are constantly on the lookout for good quality music that appeals to our toddler but that doesn't simultaneously drive the adults in the house bonkers. Never fear, parents, you too will love these lively and very, very funny songs. My only warning is that some of them will get stuck in your head, so you're like to find yourself in public singing, "We're cows, such remarkable cows..."!
Rating: Summary: Belly Button! Review: I have one year old twins, and although many of of the songs are over their heads, they LOVE the Belly Button song. As soon as they hear it they lift their shirts and start dancing around.
