Summary: An excellent resource.
Review: HTML 4 for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide by Elizabeth Castro is an excellent resource with detailed descriptions of most tags in the W3C HTML 4.0 suggested standard. Includes many helpful tables with everything from which elements work in which browsers, colour names and numbers, special character numbers, javascript and vbscript commands.

Summary: Peachpitt Press is the best tool for learning the web.
Review: HTML 4.0 by Peachpitt press is by far the best book for an HTML beginner to have. Beyond that, it functions as a very easy-to-use reference, before and after the reader becomes comfortable with the language.

Summary: It's okay to be sceptical but not in this book...
Review: I bought this book a month ago; what people said was true: this book gives you straight-forward explanations with, again, straight-forward examples--so easy to understand and apply. Given the book's price, you can't lose...especially if you're a beginner or intermediate.

Summary: Beginners html book
Review: This is truely an unbelievable book for beginners. It is well written and explained, with great graphics. The layout is easy to the eye and you would not get bored even after 3 hours continuous reading. I highly recommend it for any programmer or even non programmers.

Summary: The best book for HTML beginners, hands down.
Review: After a few months of using Frontpage Express and being unsatisfied with how my pages were turning out, I decided it was time to get off my butt, go to the book store, and buy a book on HTML. After flipping through various related books, I finally settled upon this one. I was not disapointed at all, as it allowed me to learn HTML in great detail, in a remarkably short period of time. Reading this book also allowed me to easily jump into more advanced subjects, in books that were not written nearly as well as this one. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn HTML.

If I could make ONE complaint, it would be that Liz Castro is way too partial to Mac and Netscape. She seems to think Microsoft is the devil.. To each her own...

Summary: The best beginning html book ever

Summary: To the webmaster in training, a great learning tool!
Review: I wanted to learn HTML and not depend on Microsoft FrontPage to do everything for me. My husband's using the Visual Quickstart Guide series at his college and he loves them. I decided to give this guide a try and I'm glad I did. It's great to see visual examples of how the tags all work together. I can look up what I need and use it quickly! It's a great springboard to learning HTML the 'hard way'. This guide has made HTML easier to pick up and now I plan on not using FrontPage anymore once I get the hang of it! If you like this one, pick up the Java & Javascript guides too! I already did!

Summary: A concise and clear learning and reference guide
Review: We bought this quickstart guide for all of our developers and they use it frequently. It is packed with examples and illustrations, which is exactly what developers like. No long drawn out tutorials. And it also shows differences to be aware of in the 2 major browsers and how to code for both.

We also use the Javascript and DHTML books by the same publisher. A great collection to have no matter what your skill level.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great analysis well written, no patronizing
Review: Great analysis well written, no patronizing, a MUST for developers
