Rating: Summary: Best E-business Book to Date Review: I found "Futurize Your Enterprise" to be a truly inspiring book. It has completely revolutionized my view of web sites and e-commerce. Siegel's writing style, excellent examples, chapter summaries and case studies make "Futurize" such a valuable business tool. Futurize will definitely be viewed and referenced for years to come. I look forward to joining the e-business revolution.
Rating: Summary: Good balance of fact and imagination Review: David Siegel's concise knowledge and vivid imagination has made 'Futurize your enterprise' an enjoyable reading. What makes this book special is the thought of the world in 2010, it surely would be inspiring for people with different background, interest and occupation.
Rating: Summary: Like bad tasting medicine that's good for you.. Review: Siegel tells it like it is, then like it should be ( in his perception) , and daringly tries to get us to think about very different scenarios for the not so distant future. You've got to get by the "preaching" and the subtle "IT is the World" flavor. Also, I question his assumption that everyone runs to the site with the cheapest goods. Most of his arguement is told using real companies, real W3. firms. The good news - he's short on theory. long on actual practise. However, by highlighting the internet industry with its debatable stock valuation he may be confusing high (short term) stock prices with long term staying power. The best part of the book was in the middle, chapters 4, 6,7 & 8 - especially if you've never "written" your own enterprise site.
Rating: Summary: What about everybody else? Review: I found this book to be an excellent resource guide for businesses going into the internet and wishing to expand their citizenship in that community. What I found disturbing in some of David's scenarios is the growing technological elite. It is a fact (look at Wall Street and recent IPO's) that those that work in and understand the internet and related technology are creating a new class, the "technological elite". Those who understand and have the technology at their fingertips, and those who do not. This is resulting in a widening economic gap, with all its attendant problems in our society. For the future visualized in this book to be a reality, we must make this technology available to our society at large, regardless of socio-economoc condition.
Rating: Summary: Don't Believe the Hype - Futurize Your Business is a Bore Review: Futurize your Enterprise makes a fatal error: it takes the most exciting and significant business trend of out times and manages to make it boring. This is difficult to do, but Siegel manages to do it by writing in an unfocused and aimless manner. He states the obvious with the weight of a pontiff. He speaks down to the reader with asides that measure the quality of organizations and whether they "get it" on a list of trivial matters. The book wanders in such a non-directed manner that most readers will find it hard to read straight through. I had read two of Siegel's earlier works, Creating Killer Websites and Secrets of Successful Websites. Like the two earlier works, Futurize is best when it sticks to outlining actual methods of working. Unfortunately, very little of the book is based on any identifiable work or experience of the author. He instead uses incredibly dull hypothetical examples that don't give much real insight, and because of their hypothetical nature, they don't carry any real weight either. To top it off, they just are not interesting. Compare the dull hypothetical ramblings of Siegel's new book with the exciting stories of real-life businesses that one finds in Jaclyn Easton's book, StrikingItRich.com. Easton's book does a great job of discussing business owners that you may not have heard of that have nevertheless discovered ways of creating effective online business models. The book carries the burden of being preceded by his two earlier works, which have in retrospect, proved so completely off base in the suggestions that they made regarding creating websites. No successful website follows the broad suggestions outlined in Creating Killer Websites. The success of the earlier book, in fact, seems to have affected the author's tone. He comes off as lecturing from high based on his abstract knowledge, rather than relating hard-won facts from his life in the trenches.
Rating: Summary: Could not put this book down Review: I have been involved with Information Technology (IT) for the past 20 years, the last few years as IT Architect and Datawarehouse Architect, because I thought that IT had the power to change the world. After reading this book, I know, not only that IT MUST change the world, but also HOW IT can effect those changes. Other books I would recommend you read with this one are: The Friction-Free Economy by T.G. Lewis, Being Digital by Nicolas Negroponte and The pursuit of WOW by Tom Peters.
Rating: Summary: "Futurize" Is Right On The Money. Review: After working on NYCs advertising jungle for 17 years with the bigboys, I know an insightful philosophy when I see it. And DavidSiegel's new book is chocked full of wisdom and insight. I'm glad to see him, a pioneer of web design, don the hat of management consultant. The web has become a "beauty contest" for designers, often missing the content and customer response credo. David brings a refreshing breath of life into business management on the web, by showing those who avoided customer needs the first time around and mistakenly won't change their company's method of doing e-business. I've read "Futurize" twice and each time I find another little nugget of wisdom. The preception is the reality. Get it. Read it. Profit by it. END
Rating: Summary: Name and Address Witheld Review: I'm responsible for the development of the iternet business in a major blue chip company. This book is going to change my life. Get Up, Shape Up, or Get Out on your own. Read it
Rating: Summary: Living in the Real World Review: The author expounds a great theory in customer-led business. He doesn't address how to transform the current fiefdom corporation into his new view. This is a great book if you are starting out on your own or you work with open-minded colleagues. It is out of reach for most companies.
