Rating: Summary: The JavaScript PhoneBook? Review: I still stand in awe at the immense size of this book. Who better than the original Netscape apostles to write a book on Javascript? All objects and language are covered with code snippets and examples - the sort of thing a professional will come back to over and over. Ever wondered about the use of the void operator? Do you know its precedence? If you like true scholar style this is the book for you. If you're a beginner buy the JavaScript CookBook by Yosef Cohen - you'll get through that one. Otherwise this is it. Warning: If you want flashy demos grab your design team and do it yourself..
Rating: Summary: Got JavaScript? Review: As with all 'doorstop' size books, this one appeared to be a daunting prospect. I stand corrected. Having gone through this book, I have seen that it fills a very big hole in my library. As a programmer, from time to time you need a refresher. This book fills that need...and more. From clearly explaining the basics, to providing in depth examples and advanced features, this book has become a strong part of my 'stable' of programming books. If you want to understand JavaScript, get this book!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book! Review: Although I have to wonder if one has to be well-versed in object-oriented programming to get a friendly headstart on this book, it is otherwise an excellent book! I like books with terse chapters, providing me bite-sized chunks as well as a yardstick to go by on a daily basis, i.e., I set myself to read one chapter per day -- this way, my brain doesn't get overburdened, and the subject matter retention is much greater. Danny Goodman explained concepts rather clearly, and I salute his coherence and logical presentation. He starts off with a very light tutorial (excellent for beginners!) that strengthens your foundation for the advanced material to come. It is a marvel to find a book that can serve as a reference as well as a masterfully executed series of tutorials. I just wish all books I have bought were like this!
Rating: Summary: Very good book but a new 4th edition would be alot better! Review: This book is a very good javascript book and i learned a whole lot from it, but it is a little outdated. I hope the author is working on a 4th edition!
Rating: Summary: The best source for Javascript Review: This is not just a reference book..First the author teaches you Javascript with good examples. Then it gives you a full Javascript reference for every single object with an example for each and every existing method and property. Finally he shows you real world web applications using Javascript. The book organization is excellent and the narrative easy to follow. This book is the best in it's area, take it for granted, this is a winner. Thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: Excellent referance book Review: This book is great as a lookup guide. I find it useful when I want to know what I can do where. I have used several modifications of scripts from the book in major web sites on the web. Doesn't have everything I want, but is more than well worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Best JavaScript Book Out There Review: Out Of All The Java Script Books I've baught this one was by far the best; I strongly Recument that you get "JavaScript Pocket Reference By David Flanagan" it helps when reading this book..
Rating: Summary: It's Good But Could Be Better Review: In general Goodman's JavaScript Bible is a good book. It covers both the basics and advanced details. However, Goodman tries to please both beginners and experienced programmers, which leads to a dilemma. Goodman spends a lot of time explaining basic general programming guidlines to beginners, which is a waste of time for experienced programmers. On the other hand, advanced details in this book are intimidating to beginners. Goodman tries to put Nordstrom and One Dollar Maze under one roof. How sad is that? I compared this book with other titles before I bought it. I still believe it's a good choice. But it could be improved.
Rating: Summary: Best book in my library Review: This book is much more than just a Javascript language reference. It covers dynamic HTML and the document object model in-depth and much better than any dynamic HTML books I own. The author explains things very clearly with great examples - he actually explains the code rather than just including it for you to wade through. I could sit down and read the book like a novel. This book is indispensable, I use it constantly. Whenever I can't find an answer anywhere else, I always find it here. If I could own only one book for web development, this would be it.
Rating: Summary: The Book for engineers working in JavaScript Review: A very good book for beginners and also acts as a good reference also
