Summary: Don't let Al spread his Socialism!
Review: I don't understand how liberals like Al don't realize that the government isn't always going to be there to use up our tax dollars and help out people who are too lazy to get a job. Here is an excellent excerpt from Rush's The Way Things Ought To Be:

"Wealth distribution does not equalize peoples. It destroys wealth. This ugly part of history does not teach us that capitalism does not work. Quite the contrary: It teaches us the socialism does not work; that liberalism is a failed ideology; and that it's time we invested in the individual rather than in Big Brother to solve our problems."

I didn't see anything in your book arguing this, Al! Was it that you knew you couldn't?

Summary: A review on the reviewers.......
Review: I am a foreigner living in California. I have observed the Clinton trial and what it exposed about your society. Just like reading these reviews, your society is really polarized. Without Clinton trial, I would never observe this polarization of your society. The majority of the people rated this book with either 1 or 5 stars. To attract your attention, I use a 3-star. I was curious to find out who supports Clinton. Please excuse my straightforwardness, I find the people who support Clinton are Blacks, Jews, union activists, leftovers from the sixties and US media. Am I right? From the country I come from, politicians fool around with young girls is very common. We even praise these men to be -- Man! But, what it disgusts me is that a man had no guts to do it himself instead of using a cigar! Is that a cool behavior? I won't believe anyone smoke pot without "inhale" either. Let me tell you how a foreigner look at Clinton. He dugged the bullet under his wife. He dropped 100 times more costly bombs on Iraq than Starr's investigation. He attacked US tobacco industry to further divert people's attention. Meantime, his trade negotiators force China to open up more market for US cigarettes. I really don't understand Americans. Why there are so many Americans supporting Clinton. You must have other qualified people who can run your country. Just like I don't understand why your drug war targets on poor third world grower, why not on your rich "users" at home? By the way, foreigners don't care about US legal foundation, purgery or misdemeanor. We do care about the impreachment. Because US is still a leader of the world. What you are doing right now, the whole world are watching!

Summary: Al Franken: Consummate Gasbag-Pricker
Review: "Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot" resides in a prominent position on my coffee table. The index (now much-imitated in humor books) alone is worth the price of the book. It couldn't have happened to a more deserving gasbag.

Summary: good...
Review: I find it utterly hilarious that there are people who hate this book based on their political views. Um, guys, I would hope you knew exactly what you were getting into when you brought it--it's left-wing political humour: hilarious for liberals, obnoxious for conservatives. If it offended you, that's really your own fault.

Personally, I found it quite funny indeed. Let's face it: there is far more vicious and mean-spirited right-wing rhetoric out there than left--time for a bit of payback, eh?

Still, it's not a perfect book--it can become ponderous in spots, particularly the fairly insufferable series of chapters regarding the author's alleged conflict with his assistant. A bit dated by now, but still good readin'.

Summary: Classic example of 20th century "trash" literature...
Review: Franken wishes he was a comedian or satirest, but at best he is a cheerleader for the hollywood left that msot of the nation ignores as a bunch of crybabies and know-nothings. Unlike real Americans such as Limbaugh, Franken couldn't defend or stand up for this nation if his life depended on it. He sounds like a communist.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A humorous, yet devastating body blow to Mr. Limbaugh
Review: Al Franken give the conservatives a hilarious dose of their own medicine. A truly talented writer, Franken exposes the hypocracy that is modern conservatism, using their own words and actions against them. Franken is loaded for bear too, unlike Rush, Franken relies on facts! Witness his outright devastation of Rush's "chart" about reganomic. Conservatives will be unable to cope with this book, because it relies on humor and truth, two things which are unknown to conservatives.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: It will make you laugh at Rush from now on.
Review: This book is very entertaining and a quick read. Franken really sticks it to the hard core right in witty and honest narrative. You'll laugh at how easily Franken dismantles Rush and others and exposes them as phonies. That is if you are a democrat.

Summary: A teriffic book
Review: This is a great book. Not only is it hysterically funny, but it also deconstructs many of the "arguments" of the right wing and shows them for what they are, distortions and outright lies. Examples include "Reagan cut the budget" "Trickle-down economics were good for the poor" among others. Note that all the limbaugh fans who panned the book merely insulted franken, never disputed his arguemnts. This is, in fact, one of the things which franken parodies in the book!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Pathetic.
Review: Rush Limbaug is a person that has a lot of enemies. However, he has never called his opponents idiots.

It is sad to see any potential discourse opened with insults. The book is poorly writen, has no substance. DON"T BUY THIS BOOK.

Summary: Fun CD to listen to
Review: I don't see why so many people take this book so seriously. It's comedy. I only have the CD of the book so I haven't read the book, but I have to say that it is hilarious. I don't care if Franken is not exactly telling the truth, I'm not going to write a thesis based on the facts presented in the book. Franken openly admits to all the faults of the book such as: he only named it b/c it would be controversial, and he didn't really listen to the show at all b/c it got too annoying for him. People don't have a sense of humor anymore. I don't think he was attacking Limbaugh as much as he was smart enough to know that there are people that do not like Limbaugh and would appreciate the one-liners about the talk show host. I recommend getting the CD b/c you can get a better sense of what Franken's words are supposed to come across as (he reads his own book) and there's a great clip of his speech towards the end.
