Rating: Summary: One of the best metal albums ever made Review: This is my favorite Metallica album, although Puppets is a very, very close second. This album just seems to be the more [mad] one they've ever made. There isn't a bad track on the album, and there are a few exceptional tracks (Blackened, Justice For All, One, Dyer's Eve, To Live is to Die, and my personal favorite, the Frayed Ends of Sanity). It's music I listen to when I'm in a bad mood and want to stay in it. If you are a Metallica fan and don't own this album, I don't know what to say. The only drawback on this album is that it didn't have Cliff Burton's (RIP) talent on it. Not to take anything away from Newsted, who is a fine bassist, but Cliff was exceptional. Also, for some bizarre reason the band turned down the bass on this whole album to mess with Newsted, which is not only just paints them as jerks, it also means the album could have been even better. I'm not sure why they did that.....but regardless, it's still an amazing album. Some albums I want to give 4.5* but give 5 because there is no option, but this really is a 5* album.
Rating: Summary: the last cd of the metallica 80's era Review: how appropriate the 80's ended with this masterpiece of an album. with the 90's began metallica's change and in the later half their spot as the kings of metal was forever tarnished by 2 bastardized cd's called load and reload. but that is another review. in the 80's there are 4 metallica cd's that you must hear and each one gets better and better each cd, but this is by far one of the greatest metal albums of altime. every song on this song ... is a great song. this is metal my friends. the riffs are so incredible and some of the solos on this are just so good you won't believe what you're hearing. if you've never heard metallica you need the 80's collection. this is a neccessity in any metal fan's collection. if you don't know who metallica is go find out now. unless by some miracle st anger brings some kind of retribution back to a once amazing band this is the only metallica you need to know period.
Rating: Summary: Highly progressive album with excellent musicianship. Review: ...And Justice for All is considered by many as Metallica's most progressive and complicated work to date. Don't listen to this album expecting any catchy/funky tunes. The whole album is filled with rage, despair and sorrow without any sign of hope. Most of the songs are about war, society, bad parenting, the justice system etc., My personal favorites are the anthemic "One" (about the destructive effects of war), the epic "To Live is to Die" (RIP Cliff Burton), the fast "Blackened" (about the destruction of Earth due to nuclear war ?!), the riff-laden "Eye of the Beholder" (about the real meaning of Freedom), the heavy "Harvester of Sorrow" and the title track (about the failed justice system). One of Metallica's unique abilities is their surgical precision when it comes to delivering mind-numbingly fast riffs, and they have taken this to extreme in this album. But it never gets boring thanks to some incredible solos by the talented Kirk Hammet, and some intelligent 'gear-shifting' now and then. If you listen to the whole album in one sitting, you will end up feeling that you have just listened to a 70-minute collection of riffs and solos interwoven with some intelligent lyrics, instead of 9 separate songs... and that is what I like the most about this one. If you are a serious Metallica fan, you already have this one. If all you know about Metallica are the Black Album, Load and Reload, then you must definitely give this one a try. You will be surprised.
Rating: Summary: As classic as the word itself Review: This in my opinion is one of the pinacle albums IN metal, right up there with Black Sabbath(paranoid)and Deep Purple's(machine head). The album is so naturally brutal and raw that it almost burns up your CD player while its spining around.Even though the production was a bit shabby for the time...this guitar sound set the stage for many albums from metal bands throughout the 90's.Take a listen to Rust in Peace...Sacred Reich's(the american way)same ole flat but raw production,on purpose?(maybe so)..and riff wise listen to some of the Chords off the classic At the Gates(slaughter of the soul),you'll Definately hear the influence of Justice on these gem's.Hetfield was at his Riffing prime,Lars bust's out double bass blasts to make the devil shiver in his boots,Kirk rips leads like a man possesed and well jason im sure if you could hear him, hits some good crunchy ole bass lines. All that said this album is just classic as hell, and will ALWAYS be hailed as ONE of my favorite metal albums of all time.
Rating: Summary: There best as of yet Review: This is Metallicas Best,Most Aggressive and In your face Album to Date. Its packed with riffs unlike anyone has done before(back in 1988)The Music Is Timeless. If your Just now becoming a fan of Metallica and you have yet to buy this Album....I Strongly Recommend this one before any other.
Rating: Summary: Part four in the Metallica miniseries: return of the real Review: One one hand, you have to cut Metallica some slack; the [demise] of bass giant Cliff Burton devastated the band, and as evidenced by their 1990's releases, is still being felt today. On the other hand, this is still easily one of the top 15 to 20 metal albums ever recorded. While Ride The Lightning was their best concept album; Master Of Puppets their best for musicianship, And Justice For All is their best for songwriting, and clearly locks up James Hetfield's place as the greatest metal lyricist of all time. They alredy made me a fan(a young black kid who likes hip hop) in the early 90's with the Black album and Master Of Puppets, but this one had more of an impression on me than any other of their albums. There is not one bad song on it; great songs like Harvester Of Sorrow, To Live Is To Die, the title track and Blackened. But the absolute standout is the anti-war anthem One; after hearing this song for the first time, I immediately learned to play it on the piano and on drums; I didn't look at my turntables for months!(I actually bought a bass guitar beacuse of Master Of Puppets, but of course I couldn't learn the bass parts because THERE ARE NO BASS PARTS! Jason Newsted, where you at, homie?!) But anyway, even though I enjoy their 90's stuff to this day, this is really the end for the Metallica we all know and love. I think this album is for those people who think Taproot, Sevendust and Slipknot are metal(actually ,I like Slipknot, so I won't rip 'em too bad). Very good album; go get it!
Rating: Summary: GREAT!!!!!! Review: This album is is powerful, fast, hard, and just incredible. James voice sounds different, but in a good way. My favorite is still Master Of Puppets but this is really good! My favorite song on the cd is Harvester Of Sorrow, because it is probaly the hardest song on the cd, even if its not, songs dont have to be hard to be good. But every song on the cd is awesome. It opens up with Blackened, wich is the perfect song to open with. The title track is one of the best songs on the cd, next to Harvester Of Sorrow of course. All the songs on the cd are standouts. Their later realeases are awesome but I like older stuff better. St. Anger is going to be like older stuff. Because, i was watching Icon:Metallica on MTV the other night and they played a song off of St. Anger and it was one of the hardest songs i've ever heard by Metallica. So in conclusion this cd is awesome , so buy it now!!
Rating: Summary: their best ever Review: never get sick of this album, and it far burries their others. However if I had to pick others, master of puppets and ride the lightning!
Rating: Summary: This and "Puppets"... Review: I got hooked on Metallica as an 8-year-old in the late 80's from my half-brother, and in 1995, I *finally* had the money to buy all of their CD's except for the Garage Sale ones (keep in mind this was still before Load, which I won't touch with a 30-foot pole)... so I guess minimum wage does pay off! $4.25 an hour, baby!!! ;-) In any case, I was even MORE hooked after listening to Justice!! It's just awesome... The entire CD works like one loooong track with two-second pauses in between, which is a *very* good thing here. It's like one big metal symphony, so to speak. Every song takes on a different aspect of American, hell, Western society and beats it to a sickening pulp. For a long time, "One" was my absolute favorite song!! It still ranks way up there, and every time I listen to Justice, I kinda wonder what retard took them over after 1991. In fact, the only song that beats "One" IMO is "The Thing That Should Not Be" from Puppets, which, by the way, you should also definitely get... I mean it: *every* one of the tracks are worth listening to and embracing! That in itself is commendable, but they manage to pull it off so beautifully and heart-poundingly that you won't even want to *recognize* the existance of Metallica post-1991! From Lars' excellent drumming, to James' mastery of vocals and guitar, to Jason's pounding bass, to Kirk's equal mastery of the guitar, you will not be disappointed! It's just too bad that the bass on this album isn't given as much credit as it deserves... Grab this and every other album they've produced up to it, and you will not be disappointed... Cliff Burton, rest in peace, man... this one's for you!
Rating: Summary: Justice is served Review: You read right. After this album Metallica dug themselves a hole they still haven't gotten out of and probably never will. The last Metallica album to have that "old-school metal that rules" sound to it, Justice is a masterpiece. This is also Jason Newsted's (Bass) first album, but you can hardly hear the bass on this album, as the band often called this entire album a "rhythm guitar solo". Now for track reviews. Blackened: Hard rocker with excellent riffs and melodic elements. A+ ...And Justice for All: Excellent style fusion, but this track is WAY TOO LONG. A Eye of the Beholder: The heaviest track on the album, this proves to be one of the best. A+ One: Metallica's melodic masterpiece, this one has its share of heavy points, as well as a killer guitar solo. A+ The Shortest Straw: Heavy but generic track. B+ Harvester of Sorrow: Track with memorable riffs and vocal delivery. A The Frayed Ends of Sanity: Another good fusion of heavy and melodic stuff. A To Live Is to Die: Excellent instrumental, at one point we hear Cliff Burton's last lyrics. A Dyers Eve: Heavy track that rules. Enough said. A Come the nineties and Metallica would release a self-titled album with an experimental new sound. This gained large amounts of applause from the public. But each new album went further and further with the experiments, and they soon lost many long-time fans. Still, Justice stands as their last great album, and with good reason.
