Rating: Summary: Excellent time travel romance, believable characters/events. Review: Passion is the key word. Gabaldon makes you believe such things as time travel really happen. The settings are rich and authentic, and the characters are unforgetable. The period of history covered by this story was bloody and tough, filled with danger, politics, and cultural cruelty. The romance is realistic, seasoned with equal parts of intensity and tenderness.
Rating: Summary: The best book I have ever read! Review: My sister in law gave me this book to read, and I thought I'd read a little whenever I got bored. Was I wrong! As soon as I started I could not put it down. I felt myself becoming the characters. I felt real emotions as I read this book, and I was so glad at the end of the book to find there was more of this story to continue. I am now on the second book, and I have cried, laughed, and yelled at these characters like they were real people!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful, engulfed, enamored, enthralled Review: What a wonderful book. I thought the length of the book would be a turn-off. Wrong! Not that. I wish it had been LONGER. If I could give this book a higher rating than 5 starts, I would do that. It's not because it's a romance novel. It's not that really. I would encourage anyone who enjoys a good story (my father included (he's 60+)) to read this. Diana has a wonderful flair for a story. Why didn't I hear about this author before.
Rating: Summary: Best Series of books ever writen!! Review: This is the only series of books that I have read that I absolutly missed the characters after the book was finished. I have never conected with the characters of a book before like I have with these. Don't let the nuber of pages scare you away. After reading all the books in the series, I have come to the conclusion that there weren't enough pages!! I am eagarly awaiting her next book to come out. This is money well spent. If I were buying them all over again, I would have got the hardcovers. They are truly brilliant books. Well done Diana and keep it up!! Some of us just can't wait to see Jamie and Clair again!!! Sincerely Dayna Brown
Rating: Summary: History, Romance, Swords and LOVE Review: Thank you Diana for this story and for Claire and Jamie! I enjoyed this book and I so thankful that there are already 3 more books in the series.
Rating: Summary: The best book I have ever read. Review: Myself and several other people in our office all read Outlander as well as Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, and Drums of Autumn. We still talk about the books and are waiting impatiently for 1999 so that we can get the next book. As a matter of fact, I just bought the audio tape of Dragon Fly in Amber to re-listen to it. I still get the same feeling that I know Jamie and Claire personally, as when I first read it. Diana Gabaldon is the best author I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: The standard by which you should measure all romance novels. Review: Believe it or not, an elderly friend recommended Outlander to me. I loved it!! I have read all of Ms. Gabaldon's novels. She has given us a rich mixture of history, romance , adventure and time travel. I fell in love with a dream named Jamie Frazier and my husband thanks you.
Rating: Summary: "Unputdownable" Review: I read Diana Gabaldon's Outlander (or Cross Stitch as it was called in UK)on the recommendation of the lady who works in my local bookstore. I was hooked completely, and before long, the other three were firmly in my clutches. I felt as though I was there, like a fly on the wall, watching the two main characters'(Claire and Jamie's) lives unfold. Roll on 1999 when the story continues in "Cross of Fire" I believe it will be called (in UK anyway).
Rating: Summary: Best book I've ever read, and want more Jamie & Claire. Review: This is my all time favorite book. I was going on a 2 week work trip to New York and saw Drums of Autumn. It was a really big book and the scottish topic looked interesting. I had never heard of Diana Gabaldon or the rest of the series. I read the book, discovered it was part of a series and had to go get the rest of the books as soon as I got home. Even though I read the last one first I still loved every book. I read through each book wanting to get to the end but not wanting to because it would be over. It drove my husband crazy when I picked up the books, all I wanted to do was read. My favorite was Outlander. I rarely read books over but I have read Outlander again and still enjoyed it. Even though I am an avid reader, I've never felt this way about a book before. You can't help but fall in love with Jamie , their story stays with you, I found myself thinking of them often. When is the next book? I hope that Jamie and Claire will be a big part of it.
Rating: Summary: The best I've ever read!!! Review: I've read the other reviews and I find it amusing to see that the few individuals who did not enjoy this book all seem to have limited reading skills. Anyone who has read over at least 500 novels would reconize this book for the masterpeice it is. I have read A LOT of books and this one is great. My only problem was the fourth book, I feel that I didn't love and care for the new characters as much as I did Jamie and Claire. Other than that this the book is awsome.
