Rating: Summary: This book just plain makes me laugh Review: I half agree with the reviewer who suggested that Evanovich should shake this series up. Also, I too think that Stephanie will have her fling with Ranger and go running back to Morelli. I hope to see a twist, though! That said, I still bought the book in hardback and will be pre-ordering the next one via Amazon.com as soon as the author finishes it! I laugh myself silly when I read about Stephanie's grandma, mother, and father. Joyce does get on my nerves, but that's what she's supposed to do because she does the same thing to Stephanie. Vinnie is appropriately slimy, Mooner is like several stoner guys I knew in high school, Bob rocks, and Lula is just herself---hysterical. All of the books in this series have brought me nearly to tears. I feel like I know everyone in the "burg" and I EAGERLY await the next book. With an author as imaginative and funny as this one, you never know what might happen.PS--I too hate the audio books. I LOVED when Lori Petty was reading them. I think they should go back and redo all of them with Lori's voice and then continue to use her as Stephanie in the books to come. Pay her a million bucks. It would be worth it. I'd buy every one!!!
Rating: Summary: Another Romp Through Trenton Review: The best thing about the Stephanie Plum series is you know what you're going to get. By now, Stephanie's exploits are pretty well legendary, as are the laughs that you get from each page. And once again you're in for a nice comfortable read with plenty of laughs and head shaking moments. It's nice to see characters from previous books carried over to this one, plus a few new characters are picked up along the way. As usual, life's far from sane in Evanovich's Trenton, New Jersey. Cars still have a short life expectancy, failure to appears are just as difficult for Stephanie to catch. In this case it's the virtually blind and deaf octogenarian Eddie DeChooch. It would be a nice surprise for Stephanie to actually catch someone the first time she tries, but I guess that wouldn't be anywhere near as funny. It's nice to see that Stephanie's finally starting to get some on a regular basis, another part of her life that's described in excruciatingly funny detail. I recommend you read the previous books in the series before you read this one, otherwise you will be somewhat bewildered by the shenanigans of this book, but that should be an enjoyable task in itself. Just make sure you're not eating or drinking while reading, things could get a bit ugly.
Rating: Summary: I Liked the Book Better Than The Audio Tape... Review: I really liked the story behind this selection from Janet Evanovich's series with Stephanie Plum; however, I am a truck driver and I love her audio tapes until this one. I really don't care for the reader. She has no real NJ accent and I just can't get into the story. The reader grated on my hearing after the first side of the first tape. The book was different, however, and I would rate it 4 1/2 stars while the audio tape I would only give 1/2 star to. I hope MS. Evanovich continues the series, but I hope she gets back the other reader.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Fabolous! Review: Seven Up is definitly one of the best Plum books so far. I loved the series of events with Grandma Mazur, Stefanie, Lula and the others. And of course, there was a bit of romance on the side. Not too much to make it into a romance, but it provided some...action. This book is definitly worth reading, but be sure to read the other Stefanie Plum books first!
Rating: Summary: Seven Down Review: I first discovered the Stephanie Plum series about two years ago, and throughly enjoyed the previous six books. Unfortunately, seven is not a lucky number for the series. What I loved about the previous books was Stephanie's snappy, quirky humor, and her knack for finding herself in outrageous situations. Very few of these elements can be found in this book. Stephanie comes off as boring, the mystery is too weird, there is not enough interaction with Lula, and the whole Morelli-Stephanie-Ranger triangle is tiresome. This book reads more like a rough draft than a novel ready for publication. I hope that if there is a book eight that more time and attention is put into it.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed in PA. Review: I could hardly wait to read this latest in the series, and I read it in one day only to find myself with a feeling of disappointment. I was bored with Eddie McGooch getting away from Stephanie all the time, does she or does she not love Morrelli, he loves her but isn't great on commitment, same old, same old. Maybe she should spend a night with Ranger and get it out her system, but he is defintely a no commitment man!! Love the dog!! I will look forward to number eight and hope that it will be as good as the first six books. Lived in Trenton for 10 years and the descriptions are right on target.
Rating: Summary: We loved the book but... Review: I am an avid book reader and love Janet Evanovich's books, including the last one, Seven Up. I,my daughter and her friends loved the book. However, we did not like the voice of the reader as much. We much prefered the origional, Debi Mazar, in the other tapes. We finally had to go back to just reading the book. We are waiting with bated breath for the next book, and tape to come out. My daughter is hoping Stephanie will chose Ranger, and I want Joe Morelli to be the one.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed... Review: Too much reliance on humor (after all, one of Evanovich's strengths). The humor is not enough to compensate for the lack of plot and character development. Stephanie is well fleshed out, as usual, but Ranger, Morelli and Lulu are verging on caricatures. (Are we supposed to care who Steph sleeps with? Can't tell.) I also found that I really lost interest in the mystery itself. Plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, but overall a less-than-satisfying MYSTERY STORY.
Rating: Summary: Classic Stephanie Plum Review: Evanovich does it again. This is classic Stephanie Plum. It was a great book, but it was poorly narrated. Janet how could you put your book in the hands of such an incompetant reader? Before I buy another Stephanie Plum book, I'll check to see who is narrating first. Both Lorie Petty and Debra Mazur gave Stephanie the voice and attitude we've all grown to love. This new narrator made it difficult to enjoy a great book.
Rating: Summary: Seven Again Review: Unfortunately, I was fairly disappointed by this seventh book in the Stephanie Plum series. I really enjoyed the first six and so when the seventh was released I bought it and devoured it on the first day. However, compared to the others in this series, I felt that Seven Up was lacking a lot of the characterization that made me love the other books. I felt like both Ranger and Morelli were reduced to cardboard cutouts who only showed up to get Stephanie all hot and bothered and then leave again. And yes, there's another cliffhanger, but didn't we already go through this in High Five? I think that Stephanie is a wonderful portrait of a woman who is still working on figuring out who she is and what she wants from life, but I wanted to give her a little more credit for brains and intuition. I tthought that Seven Up was entertaining, but certainly doesn't measure up to the previous books in the series.
