Rating: Summary: Still chuckling after 7 of these. Review: I usually confine my reviews to books that don't already have a hundred reviews, but I figured I should add my 2 cents worth here. I expected to be a little jaded by number 7. After all, it's the same characters, same town, same situations. but I laughed myself silly anyhow. This is very entertaining stuff, and the situations just offbeat enough to seem fresh. Well done!
Rating: Summary: Another winner from Evanovich Review: The good news: Another great outing from Stephanie Plum, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. The usual cast of characters is here (Lula, Grandma Mazur, Ranger, Joe, etc.), plus we finally get to meet Steph's sister and her two children. A quick and satisfying read. The bad news: We have to wait a whole year for the next installment. Will she take her "engagement" to Joe to the next level, or will she finally find out if Ranger's as good as she thinks he is? I know I'm looking forward to finding out!
Rating: Summary: Ignore all character evolvement criticism please! Review: I love these books, all of them. As most moms who read while cartoons are on the TV and nintendo is blaring in the background, I do not want to spend time learning every detail of a characters life. I definetly don't want 2 page curtain descriptions! Ms. Evanovich can spend 2 lines telling you a character fainted and you laugh out loud. Bravo, keep up the good work. I can't wait for number 8!!
Rating: Summary: What a Disappointment! Review: Yes, like many of your other reviewers, I have read ALL of the books in the Stephanie Plum series. I even read this author BEFORE she created Stephanie and I really enjoyed her work. I think she was sleepwalking through this one. Her descriptions of the characters and situations were what made the previous books fun to read. This one is sorely lacking. For instance, there is a scene where Stephanie and Lula end up in the pit at a mud wrestling bar. I've never been to a mud wrestling bar so it's hard for me to come up with a picture of what it's like. More vivid and colorful descriptions could have made this a memorable scene. Instead, it comes across rather flat. Also, the author assumes that the reader already knows a lot of stuff about the recurring characters without filling us in. Poor Joe Morelli! He's relegated to the back burner in favor of the dog. C'mon, Janet, you can do much better.
Rating: Summary: just a little less than the rest Review: The book was just a little less than the others. I still enjoyed the book....I got some good laughs....especially with Bob, stephanie's dog who lives pretty much with Morelli. I thought it was funny that Stephanie hated Joyce so much that she would take time to drive Bob all the way to Joyce's house just so he could do his "business" on her front lawn. I read some reviews before writing this review and I just wanted to say that Morelli was not made out to look like a jerk. They had some fights....but folks...so does every relationship sometimes....they are realistic characters. Their lives are not always going to be perfect. Yes, he does make her choose between him and her job...but I think he makes her choose because he cares. He doesn't want something to happen to her. They break up. But, I think they will get back together...after Ranger complicates things more. Plot.....I expected so much more from Janet. She did a good job....there were some twists...but I could see most of them coming....like I already knew what was going to happen. Her twistes in writing with this type of main plot should be more abrupt....unexpecting. One of the things I didn't see coming was Dougie's nextdoor neighbor's dog eating Louie D's heart....weird. Well I'm goin for Morelli and Stephanie to be together so I hope something happens in the next book to make them closer....or maybe Stephanie will date Ranger and then Morelli will come back in the picture.
Rating: Summary: Turn a Corner Review: I have loved reading Evanovich's previous novels. It's not that this one is bad; it's just that there's too much sameness here. I'm tired of Stephanie always playing the bumbling idiot and am getting a little frustrated with the superficiality of her relationships with Joe and Ranger. I love Grandma and Lula, and I really like that her "perfect" sister showed up, but it's time to shake things up a little more.
Rating: Summary: Something was missing Review: I'm giving it a four on the basis of the key characters, but there was something missing this time. Maybe it was that Hot Six was so good and so funny that Seven Up had a tough act to follow. Parts of the book were extremely hilarious, and other parts seemed to be overkill. Grandma Mazur is a hoot as always, but even her behavior seemed tamer in this installment. It is adequate summer reading and should not be missed by anyone who has read her earlier Plums. I just hope the eighth plum will be a little riper than this one was.
Rating: Summary: Totally Disappointed Review: WELLLLLLL-???? I have read and re-read all of the Stephanie Plum series.... I must say I was terribly disappointed by this one. It does pick up at the end of the book... It is almost like the Publishers or SOMEONE is Pushing Janet too hard to produce... I certianly hope they STOP NOW... This is a great writer with a great series going... Her readers look forward Excitedly to each and every new book.. I have even searched out and purchased FIRST EDITIONS of all the others... GRANDMA Mazur who in my estimation is one of her best ever charactors after, Joe , Ranger and of course Stephanie. Grandma was almost non-exsistant in this one and what she did have to offer she was blindfolded most the time... DEFINATELY TO MUCH BOB the munchy pooch... It was almost like Janet had some great ideas but had not enough time to really develop them fully.. SO WHOEVER OR WHATEVER IS PRESSURING JANET STOP..... STOP... PLEASE STOP... WE WANT MORE OF THE OLD STEPHANIE BACK...... WEGE
Rating: Summary: bring back old reader Review: the lastest Janet Evanovich book was such a dissapointment because the old reader, Debi Mazar had created the tone and sound that flowed through all 6 audios. The new reader, Tanya Eby, mispronounced names and had a flat midwestern tone. Grandma Mazure was pronounced Grandma Mazer....it ruined it. One would think that a new reader would at least listen to a previous tape to have continuity. The plot was a typical Plum scenerio, fast moving, fun and predictable in a "hey, I remember that" kind of way! Along with Kinsey Milhone, Stephanie Plum is another old friend I look forward to reading more of.....just get back your old reader!!!!
Rating: Summary: Please bring back C.J. Critt! Review: I have a long daily commute and have listened to all 7 of the Stephanie Plum series - in order, I might add. The first six are beautifully performed by C.J. Critt, who captures the personality of the character and stays true to each. Where oh where did they find the munchkin who read Seven Up? Is that supposed to be a New Jersey accent? Does the woman know that "R" is in the alphabet? Did she bother to acquaint herself with the characters before portraying them? Her reading was so distracting that I could barely concentrate on the plot (which, by the way Janet, was rather thin...) The series has been entertaining, but please, bring back C.J. Critt!!
