Rating: Summary: Recycling under pressure? Review: I agree with the ardent Plum fans that find little new here -- long on the "tricks" (GrandMa Mazur, Bob the dog, etc.) that made the other six funny and very short on gripping plot; not to mention that we already had the "bedtime" cliffhanger once before too. Like "P" is for "Peril", "P" is for pressure -- seems these best selling authors just can't keep up a book-a-year pace and stay fresh. Not that I could either, but maybe it's time to take a lesson from Thomas Harris -- while maybe we don't have to wait 5-10 years in between books, a couple wouldn't kill us to keep up the quality. Before we get "8 is Enuf", I suggest Janet take a break and work harder on the story next time and let us find the humor with a little more subtlety.Funny how too much of a good thing gets old!
Rating: Summary: It will whet your appetite Review: I was so excited to read Seven Up - bought it on our cross-country move and opted to read instead of unpack boxes. The book wasn't bad, but I should have decorated my house instead of visiting Trenton. I felt the book could have been two chapters in another book. There just wasn't that much of a plot - way too much information on Bob the dog and poor Joe - what's going on with him? I did, however, enjoy Valerie coming back to the nest. I think this will be great material for Stephanie's next adventure - and I LOVE that Mrs. Plum is going back to school. If nothing else, Ms. Evanovich has me itching in anticipation for the next book! Read Seven Up is you like Stephanie Plum. It's an easy read - and all the elements are there - just not enough! It did whet my appetite - but I'll have to wait for #8 to be satisfied!
Rating: Summary: Humor is forced. Review: I've waited breathlessly for all of the Stephanie Plum series and enjoyed them up until "Six" when I felt that some of the humor was over the top. Now, with 'Seven', I didn't even read past page 50 because the author has dredged up yet another mishap at the funeral home (we've been there before), and the books seem to be veering toward comedy with a little mystery, instead of a mystery with some funny moments. I think her humor in the last two books has been forced. More farce than the sharp humor shown in previous books. I enjoyed her writing much more when she wasn't trying to hard to be funny. So, I don't know what happened to Morelli and Stephanie...sigh.
Rating: Summary: Same old, same old... Review: Evanovich has run out of ideas, so she keeps repeating the same kind of unbelievable scenarios, over and over. Slightly different situations, but nothing you couldn't figure out the results to yourself. I loved her stuff in the beginning but the tiresome characters, wornout scenes and predictible endings lead me to say that I've read my last Stephanie Plum "mystery". P.S. Did she borrow Benny and Ziggy from Laverne and Shirley????
Rating: Summary: Not her best effort Review: I've been a fan of Stephanie since her debut. But it seems that this particular venture isn't quite as put together as the rest have been. I also found that Evanovich's focus on bathroom humor and sexual ineptitudes somewhat irritating. Enough is enough! The plot is interesting and entertaining, but she didn't spend much time on development of her core characters. "Eight" should be interesting and I'm waiting to see how she resolves some of the relationships.
Rating: Summary: Come Back Debi Review: I looked forward to the audiotape of Seven Up having devoured Evanovich's six previous masterpieces of mystery and humor. Unfortunately, Debi Mazur, the narrator for the previous Stephanie Plum misadventures has been replaced for Seven Up. After listening to two tapes with an open mind and an open ear, dah Joisey accent and all the characters just weren't there. I bought the book and read it to myself.
Rating: Summary: 7-UP, Good to the last drop!! Review: IT WAS GREAT TO BE BACK IN NEW JOISY AGAIN WITH STEPHANIE AND HER FAMILY!! BILL THE DOGS GASTRIC EXPERIENCES WERE LAUGH OUT LOUD. THE CHARACTERS AND PLOT LINE WERE ALL FIRST RATE, AS USUAL. I'M ONLY SAD CAUSE I READ IT TOO FAST.
Rating: Summary: audio book UGH Review: I have listened to the last 6 books and loved them, this one was a big disappointment, and I don't think I can really blame the story but the reader. She bored me to death. With the original reader I could picture everyone in my mind, this one everyone is just a big blob. I really can't tell too much about the story as I said the reader bored me and so then did the story. If you have audioed before I think you should read this one and then mabye you can enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Loved it...looking forward to Eight! Review: I finished this book with some sadness because I knew it would be some time before the next book came out. I agree with some of the other reviews that this was not Evanovich's best. But I still think that it was worth reading!
Rating: Summary: Seven is Heaven!!! Review: Evanovich writes another witty mystery!!Stephanie and the wacky cast of characters will keep you laughing and entertained! Since I am orginally from North Jersey these books bring me back everytime! The only letdown listening to this audiobook was the fact the reader did not have an authentic "Jersey" accent. So critical when listening to these books! Can't wait for #8!!
