Rating: Summary: A simplicity of faith; an elegant spirituality! Review: How appalling that there are those shallow cretins who have the extremely bad manners to bash Lisa Beamer! I wonder if they even bother to read her engaging book (I loved to know how much of the book is Lisa and how much her co-author Abraham.) There is so much here, just below the surface of her engrossing and utterly entertaining story of her life with and since 9/11, without her unpretentious husband-hero of Flight 93. Lisa manages to so elegantly and eloquently capture the essence of Christian spirituality (i.e. what it REALLY means to be a Christian). Her prose is totally unassuming, but like the greatest spiritual writing, it resonates with a passion and fervency that inspires while it entertains and informs. Lisa, Todd, their boys, and baby Morgan, while being the quintessential Everyfamily, are superbly portrayed and utterly delightful in their "you want to bring them home to meet the family" qualities. The section where she recreates the final moments aboard Flight 93 are as gripping and page-turning as the grittiest Tom Clancy novel. A beautiful book for our uncertain times and it's so pleasing to read that there are actually Christian out there who truly understand what their faith is all about. Brilliant and as shining as a star!
Rating: Summary: What keeps this young widow going... Review: Lisa Beamer is able to face life without her husband and even be optimistic about her future and the future of her three small children because of her strong faith in Jesus Christ. Lisa gives us background information about both her own and Todd's families growing up. Lisa's father died suddenly when she was only 15, and that experience probably prepared her to deal with what was to come on 9/11/01.Immediately before September 11th, Todd and Lisa took a trip to Rome, arriving back home late on September 10th. While they were away, Lisa was preparing to lead a Bible Study on the book of Esther. She came upon this passage as she read the cross-references: Romans 11:33-36 "Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?" This was a verse Lisa knew well because this was one that helped her get through the death of her father. Little did she know when they were on that vacation how this verse would speak to her again in the days and weeks to come. Lisa is very honest and open about her husband Todd. He was a wonderful husband and father, but he also had a problem with loving his job so much that he'd sometimes spend too much time working. She talks about how they worked that out. It was a few days after the crash before Lisa talked to Lisa Jefferson, the Verizon Airfone operator, who Todd had the famous conversation with. What a comfort this was to Lisa, to hear what Todd's concerns were during the last minutes of his life. He told the operator to tell Lisa he loved her and the children, and Todd asked her to say the Lord's Prayer with him and they recited the 23rd Psalm also. Lisa Jefferson was on Larry King Live recently and said that the phone call was actually 45 minutes long! She has a hard time sleeping still, after being the recipient of this phone call that told so much about the crash of United flight 93. Lisa believes that God COULD have prevented the tragedy of 9/11. He could've chosen to pull Todd off that plane. But rather than drive herself crazy with wondering "what if", she chooses to rest in the knowledge that for some reason, God allowed these things to happen. Allowed, not caused. Big difference. And God used Todd and many other heroic people on that flight to save the lives of still more people who could've died in the Capitol building or the White House. Lisa tells the story of how the hymn "It is Well With My Soul" was written by Horatio Spafford. Mr. Spafford lost his four daughters in a freak accident where a ship sank in the Atlantic Ocean. While he traveled that same route to join his wife, who had survived the accident, in England, he wrote: "When pace live a river attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul." I highly recommend this book to you. And you can feel good that all the proceeds from the sales of this book (and the companion music CD) will go to the Todd Beamer Foundation. The monies will go towards developing character and heroism in faith in this country's children, which special emphasis on the children who lost a parent on September 11th. Please check out my other reviews of books and CDs!
Rating: Summary: Ordinary book by an Extroadinary survivor! Review: Lisa Beamer is not a writer by trade. This is a simple tale in a simple style that any of us might emply as we recount our experiences and reflections to family and friends. What makes her account extraodinary is how she and Todd chose to live, the choices they made each day and the priorities they held. When tragedy struck they were able to respond in the noblest way because their foundation had been carefully built and their perspective was the long view, with eternity in view. Thank you, Lisa, for keeping your focus and message simple offering hope to anyone going through tragedy.
Rating: Summary: Wow. Just wow... Review: As a Christian, I found Lisa's account of her life and Todd's to be--in the midst of the hundreds of books and various 9/11-related media--a great comfort and a breath of fresh air. It's as if I was reading a family portrait of someone near and dear to me. As I read each of these chapters, I was very moved to see good ol' tradition, values, and standards that were--and still are--instilled in both their families. These things have, for so long, been downplayed and rejected by today's postmodern, politically correct wave of thinking and living. Tradition has been replaced by culture, values replaced by "Do what you feel is right", and standards substituted with "That's your opinion". I thank both Todd and Lisa for inviting us into their lives and reminding us what a great life we can have by abiding in Christ alone, maintaining a loving family life, and loving each other the way that He has always loved us. I hope that this book will find many more homes, that their lives, too, may be touched by this humble, godly woman...
Rating: Summary: Truly wonderful.. . Review: Lisa Beamer's story is honest, personal, and poignant. I was honored to share in her life, and to come to know more about the man who was her husband and one of America's heroes on Sept. 11th. Reading about her/their unwavering faith, and the Biblical passages that helped her and continue to help her survive helped me deal with my own grief about this tragedy. As she says, those who have Christ are comforted when they mourn and have hope. As she also says, all things are not good, but God will work them all for good. She is truly a testiment to the love of God through Jesus Christ, and an inspiration to all. Hopefully her faith will help others turn to God to find comfort in their own grief too. (Only someone who does not know the love and joy and comfort of God's love could attack this book, and that is to the unfortune of that person and all that they are missing in their own heart and soul by not knowing Christ and God's comforting love.) Thank you for sharing your story, Lisa. It has made a difference to me, and helped me move forward in faith, hope and love too. God bless.

Rating: Summary: A Book That Really Helped Me/Quit Bashing Lisa Beamer Review: This is actually a Review with TWO MESSAGES! First Off My Review of The Book! The Book is Written with Caring and Love and I Found it To Be Very Compelling! Even after One Year, I still have trouble Comprehending what Happened on that Tragic Day But Lisa Beamers Words of Comfort and Wisdom have Really Helped Me. With all This Poor Woman has Been Through, her message is Quite Clear, We Must Get On With Our Lives! Now for the Second Part of This Review. Many so called "Reviewers" have taken advantage of the Amazon Review Board to voice their displeasure of Lisa Beamer Writing This Book! First Off, you should NEVER Give a Review of a Book Unless you have actually read the book and I Doubt that most of the people who gave Lisa's Book a negative review, have actually read the book! I also would like to set the Record Straight and Give You Some Facts about the Sales of This Book! LISA BEAMER MAKES NO MONEY FROM THIS BOOK! All of The Proceeds from The Book go To The Todd Beamer Foundation which is a Non-Profit Organization! Secondly, LISA BEAMER NEVER SET OUT TO COPYRIGHT THE TERM "LETS ROLL"! This can be verified on her Interview with Larry King on August 23, 2002. The Only reason Lisa Beamer is now trying to copyright the phrase is because of some unscupulous Businessmen who actually were trying to copyright the phrase so that they could put it on T Shirts, Mugs Etc. Lisa only wants to make sure that the phrase is being used for Charity Purposes! Also, even though she isnt making a dime off this book, SO WHAT IF SHE WAS! You need to remember that when her Husband was murdered on that Tragic Day, Lisa was left with two children to raise with one on the way! Todd was the Sole Breadwinner of the family and now with him gone, Lisa has to raise three children on her own so forgive her is she tries to raise Money from time to time to feed and clothe her children! Before you cast stones at Lisa Beamer or anyone for that matter, please get your facts straight first!
Rating: Summary: regrets Review: I regret that I have to agree with some of the negative reviews of this book. I have found the stories of quiet courage displayed by many of the survivors, family of victims, and others suffering loss on 9/11 more inspirational than this book. It is simply not that remarkable in terms of inspiration or literary worth. I have read stories in the newspapers that affected me more. There is a grieving widow who is paying for surgery for children. There is another who is raising money for teens. Neither one has their photo plastered on the front of a book cover. I got the very uneasy feeling from the book that the author wrote it to prolong her fame.
Rating: Summary: Truly Inspirational story Review: I loved every minute of Lisa's book. I did not want the book to end....The story of her life is very bittersweet. She has a vast amount of courage. I have been raving to everyone that will listen.. to please read how this lovely young woman, inspite of all her heartbreak, is moving on. How difficut that must be. I was able to learn that God has been and always will be a part of her daily living. I have the utmost respect for this lady and I hope the future brings many wonderful things to her family.
Rating: Summary: Let's Roll: Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage Review: Hats off to Lisa Beamer! This book will definitely change lives! Her strong faith (and Todd's too) brings hope to all who believe and hope to those who have strayed from the church and need to be reminded of God's greatness! May God continue to richly bless Lisa, David, Drew, and Baby Morgan.
