Rating: Summary: utter hypocrisy Review: Were the Weiners (Dr Savage's family) not immigrants? Did they not contribute to their adopted country? Are there not multiple visions of America? At a time when America is the preeminent power of the world, unequaled in the history of the world, do not alarms of American decline ring hollow? When the Republican party controls the presidency, the supreme court and the congress, can liberals be reasonably viewed as dominating political life? Dr Savage's intemperate screed falls on the sword of reality, time and time again. Constructive debate about the republic's future must stand on a more solid foundation. Preaching to the converted is no more useful, or counterproductive, to the right than to the left.
Rating: Summary: Have You Ever Seen Them Together? Review: I think this bozo in Ann Coulter in drag. Or maybe Ann Coulter is Michael Savage in drag. Either way.
Rating: Summary: Dr. Savage is more a savage than a nation's hero. Review: The book was predictable. Very interesting, very emotional, very self-serving. I consider his effort to be a good one. I'm in the USAF, preparing for deployment to the Gulf, and I couldn't agree with him more about closing our borders, racial-profiling all those of the "religion of p-e-a-c-e", and pre-emptive strikes. But if you've listened to the author's radio program over the years you really didn't need to read his book. His show sells well, so what does any money-hungry baby-boomer do? Y-e-s....write a book! Michael Savage is an entertainer first and foremost. It's very, very obvious that money is the most important commodity to this man. In his book as well as on his show (and no doubt this will continue with his MSNBC TV show to debut this Sat. March 8th), he puts on quite the act. How do I know? Because he constantly contradicts himself. He doesn't like or watch sports? Isn't that the medium by which those of us involved in the crazy and maddening things this world has been offering up escape into our own private little world of sanity with every now and then? So he doesn't eat butter? But he revels in chicken skin, fat, and other cholesterols! So he's the son of immigrants? Who isn't? He doesn't like kids who wear their baseball caps backwards? What does he think HE looks like in those out-of-date and unattractive turtlenecks? One reason the book sells so well is that it's controversial. In fact, that's the only reason. He is addicted to the last word, and a book gives that craving to a writer. On the air this personality hates to be interrupted or have the subject changed by the caller, yet that's all he does to his callers--saying it's "his show". Reading the book one gets the firm idea that the author is insanely envious of those who are successful and wealthy in America. He recently characterized Charles Barkley as a 'basketball goon' saying he 'never heard of him before a show'. That's pure entertainment. CB is a famous, wealthy black man who epitomizes the hidden hatred Savage is cursed with - as can readily be deducted from his book chapter after chapter. Michael Savage's book was released at just the right time in American history to keep the green in his pockets. That's what it's really all about. And we are asked to have T-O-L-E-R-A-N-C-E with his dark side and accept his innovative, conservative side. I guess I do. That's why I gave the man 3 stars for his effort. I'll fight to defend him as well as Barbara Boxer, Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, and all the other Liberals out there. I just hope if and when I return, Dr. Savage's head returns to normal size.
Rating: Summary: Judge the Content, not the Author Review: Many of the anti-Savage reviews I have read here are more demagogic and hateful than Savage could ever be at his worst. I suspect a few of these people have never read the book, they just don't like his show or his ideas. There are some valid criticisms of the book and the man that I will address: 1. "much of the book is a rehash of his radio show" -true.. I expected a bit more than what Mike talks about on radio, but pehaps the book is directed at the non-radio listening audience. 2. "Mike Savage has a Big Ego" -true... Yes, you can not argue with that., but what TV, Radio, or Political personality doesn't. It is the nature of the profession. Liberal or Conservative, people in the business have large egos. 3. " The Volume is too slender-not enough pages for the dollar" - I agree. I wish Mike would have gone to greater lengths and depths in his analysis. Criticism aside, I believe this is a a well worthwhile read and the focus on "Borders, Language, and Culture" rings so true. It is a pragmatic common sense practice to unify us as a people. His attacks on the "Multiculturalist Mentality" are right on the money. "From many we are one" I was taught in my youth. Unity over Diversity. How that has been perverted over the last 20 years. I also concur and share his outrage over the attacks on the Boy Scouts. I was a Cub, Boy, and an Explorer Scout and the morals and ideals of scouting have given me a solid foundation of life, even during my brief "Hippy Period" in the early seventies. If you you have problems facing realities of life, you will find this book disturbing and will dismiss it. The great danger of this book is that it may open your eyes and wake you up. Once awake you may not be able to go back to your Utopian Dreamworld. Beware.
Rating: Summary: free thinkers...... do NOT disregard this book! Review: Critical thinking is a sign of intelligence. that being said, it's easy to bypass the writings of the "so called conservative", because so many come off as simple minded. by nature conservatism is a tendency to make black and white judgments w/o bothering with the minutia of the issues. as a psychiatrist is called a shrink, the conservative thinking is likewise in that it narrows the issues to simplistic black and white. not withstanding, this is not true across the board. the extreme left, or the extreme right can be viewed ranging from comical to dangerous. to the point; michael savage is an intellectual man and his views are clearly stated here. this is a compelling read that makes many strong points for his way of thinking. the conservative ideas he presents are not without merit, (as one would expect from rush limbaugh). the fact is that people with a brain know when they are being lied to. with rush, you usually are. with michael savage... probably not. read this book by a very credible conservative man.
Rating: Summary: Blunt and to the point... Review: Michael Savage doesn't mince words. This radio commentator with the PhD. sees the liberals as the greatest danger confronting this nation. He identifies and analyzes the agenda they offer and illuminates the dangers they pose to this country. It is a great companion book to Joseph Farah's "Taking America Back", which, along with "The Savage Nation", is a must-read book for those who don't want to see this nation fall prey to the liberal program that is leading us to totally centralized socialism led by people who apparently hate everything the Founding Fathers tried to give us--a nation of freedom in which the people are protected from all unbridled ambition for power that always infects, or threatens to infect people in positions of authority who believe they are better qualified to control the country than the people themselves. Much damage has already been done. This is not the nation my Father fought for in World War II. We do not have the national greatness that we had under the "Greatest Generation." What we must become now is a "Greater Generation" that recognizes the dangers the liberal agenda poses to this country and takes the necessary steps to stop them and recover what we once were, "One nation, UNDER GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." Savage and Farah and others, like immigrant citizen Dinesh D'Souza, are trying their best to get the people's attention and persuade them (us) to do what has to be done to save this country from the liberal disease that threatens us. Wake up, America. Take heed before we become a nation that is not worth living in.
Rating: Summary: Showing the Truth Review: This book shows the truth of what America is sadly experiencing these days. It also brings to light that we, as Americans, must change it. I got stuck in traffic one day, turned on the AM, and realized I'm not the only person in the Bay Area that feels this way. Within less then a week I bought the book. Within less then a week I read it. Great exposure to many issues I truly felt were the issues surrounding us in the most recent years. Dr. Savage is an educated man who knows what he is talking about. I think everyone who thinks they're a true patriotic American should read this book. Thank you Dr. Savage.
Rating: Summary: On the whole ... accurate Review: Posing aside (and Savage does it for theatrical reasons), much of what he says is not so much extravagant or "radical" than common-sensencial, and goes to the very heart of the problem in current American politics: namely, that, these days, politics has become less a matter of the "right" and the "left" -- of the conservatives and the liberals -- than of the common-sensical as opposed to the kooks; -- the kooks who are (I am very sorry to have to say it) mostly on the so-called "left." For Mr. Savage really asks no more of us than that we honor our forebears; that we preserve our nation, as it was handed down to us; that we protect liberty of speech, liberty of conscience, and, insofar as we are able to do so, militate against those forces which would repress free speech because it does not fit in to their notions of a "progressive" America. As Mr. Savage would say, the so-called "progressives" (as they call themselves these days) would be the first to throw into prison, in the name of protecting liberty, those who disagree with them!... Mr. Savage has his faults and superficialities, as anyone who consistently listens to him knows: but despite these, he has more common sense and greatness of spirit than most. His utter, stark honesty, with himself and with his honesty, is a refreshment.
Rating: Summary: Intellectual nudity! The blatant, honest truth! Review: I've been listening to Michael for almost a year now. I love his down-to-earth honesty. He's willing to put himself out on a limb to expose the political correctness and multiculturalism that is stifling any honest debate in this country. He has been very instrumental in my liberal recovery (plus 9/11 and the growing anti-Semitism within the left). He is neither a bigot nor a homophobe. He does not hate women. He is simply exposing the nonsense of extremism that has made certain issues "sacred cows." He tears through it with wit and humor. His book is combination autobiography and manifesto. Savage is a savage profit for our time. A MUST read!
Rating: Summary: The Savage Nation Review: Truth sounds so sweet to the ears. We (THE SAVAGE NATION) are waking up. We are intelligent, aware, and agressive. We will not go away!
