Summary: Good,but not great
Review: Nothing but the Truth is about a nineth grader,Philip Molloy. He was upset that he can't try out for track team because his english teacher ,Ms. Narwin, give him a D for his winter grade
(he need all passing grade) He attempt to transfer out of her class by hums along with the daily playing of the national anthem--a habit ignored by his jocular homeroom teacher, though the rule is ``respectful, silent attention,'' Then he's moved to the homeroom of Miss Narwin,well-liked by other student because she's fair but rigid, humorless, and out of touch with modern kids. When she tries to enforce the silence rule, Philip responds with offhand rudeness borne of his distress about track . The first time Ms. Narwin yell at him, the second time She kick Philip to the office, the third time Philip were suspended by the assistant principle. the ensuing confrontation escalates into a two-day suspension followed by national media attention based on the erroneous belief that Philip has been denied the right to express his patriotism.
I feel that Avi had skillfully combine the memos, diologues, news clips, and Philip's Diary into a story. The contend were believable and well written. However sometime the story DOES get a little bit boring and confusing. There are many other great books that could easily outmatch this one. Read it if you have times.

Summary: Horrible and Waste of Time
Review: This book was extremely bad. I read this book in two weeks in school and every day i would dread it. It is extremely boring and has no plot whatsoever. If you have a choice to read this book or not i say no. It is a waste of Time...

Summary: Nothing but the Truth; Avi
Review: This book was too repetitive. The story was basically about a ninth grade boy, Philip Malloy, who is a freshman at Harrison High School in Harrison New Hampshire. He likes to hum along with *The Star Spangled Banner* in the morning when it is played over the P.A. system. His homeroom teacher is completely oblivious to this and so Philip continues with his morning humming. Then, weh n the school students swirch home room teacher, Philip gets a teacher, Miss. Narwin. First of all, Philip also wants to try out for the track team. The coach tells him he doesn't meet the requirements to try out, meaning he isn't going to be allowed the privelage of trying out. This is all because of Miss. Narwin, of course, because she gave him a "D" in English and to try out for the track team you need to be passing all classes. Well, the trouble really begins when Philip hums again in homeroom along with the song. Miss. Narwin yells at him the 1st time, kicks him out the 2nd and he gets suspended the 3rd time. The rest of the story is just that Philip, his parents, and Ted Griffen ( the Malloy's neighbor who is running for school board) are on one side. They all agree that Philip is just being patriotic. They believe that Miss. Narwn is unpatriotic and just trying tokeep Philip from his rights to be patriotic. On the otherhand, Miss Narwin, the Assistant principal, the Principal, and the Superintendant are on the other side. They all believe that the rules are the rules and that Philip is breaking the rules. So they have the opposing sides. Now, the story gets out on the press all ovedr the U.S. Philip and Miss.Narwin begin to recieve many telegrams. Philip's are nice and friendly, but Miss. Narwin's are mean and disrespectful. In the end, neither wins. Niss. Narwin is forced to take leave and resign and Philip is transferred to a private school with no track team.
I think that this was an awful book, yes, some people may have enjoyed it but I did not. I only read it because I absolutely had to. I do NOT reccommend this book. It doesn't even deserve one star, but I' have to give it some amount.

Summary: Depressingly Boring
Review: I had to read this book for a book club in 7th grade. I don't know how I finished it, but it was so repetitive. Everyone in the group hated it, we all thought it was a waste of time. Avi is a wonderful authour, I have read many of his works, but this is the only bad one I read. A Kid gets suspended from school for humming the national anthem. That is the entire story.

Summary: Borring read
Review: This book was a summer reading requirement. I have done searches on this book on the internet and it's said to be a good read for 10-12 year olds in about 4th or 5th grade. I am a soon to be 8th grader and am required to read this over the summer and fill in a chart with the book. I thought this was a very borring read and felt it was a waste of time.

Summary: Ultimately Well-Written
Review: I thought the book was ultimately well-written plotwise, but I found the format to have faults. The format (dialogue) was kind of hard to follow and understand even though the locations and things were specified. I would've probably enjoyed the book more if it would've been in regular paragraph form. But otherwise, it was an extremely good story that kept my attention and I didn't want to stop reading. I found the ending quite humorous. :-)

Summary: Nothing but the truth
Review: I didn't quite choose this book. This book was given to me by my teacher Mr.Shea. We had to read this book for a project we would like to call literature circle. Every group had a book given to them to read. Some groups had the same books others had different ones. Each group had to read the book at the certain amount of pages. Afterwards they are assigned "jobs" which they must accomplish that referred to the learnings of the book. The job must be accomplish by every member of the group or it will drop down 25 points per person. Which will affect the group as a whole.

This book is about a young teenage boy in highschool who is now in 9th grade. He faces problems when he is transferred into Ms. Narwin's class. As he sings/ hums the national anthem to himself when the announcments are spoken at the intercom every morning. Afterwards they play the national anthem afterwards. He claiming that he was being patriotic. Ms. Narwin tells the assistant principal that he was causing a nuisance. For that he gets kicked out. After telling the story to his parents, they give him advice to stick up for what he believes him and what he is doing is not close to wrong. The following day he repeats the same steps. For that, once again he gets kicked out. After being sent two time to the assistant principal's office he is now suspended for two days. A brief explanation to a neighbor's friend/ school reporter turns out to be a school wide issue.

This as a class reading book is quite interesting for most of the books that we have to read as a homework are boring or hard to understand, but with the dialectic writing it was easier to keep up with. For if I chose this book as a fun-time book to read in my spare time...... I don't think I would enjoy it as much for I would rather read about real teenage problem and troubles instead about getting a 2 day suspension.

Summary: Nothing But the Truth (fiction)
Review: This is about a ninth grade student that attends Harrison High named Philip Malloy. He has one problem at school and that is with Ms. Narwin. Ms. Narwin, a teacher that Philip thinks hates him individually. He has her for homeroom and English. He got suspended for singing the Star-Spangled Banner as Ms. Narwin thought was a disturbance. He goes to the asst. principal's office for creating a disturbance in class by singing the Star-Spangled Banner. Philip then becomes a bit angry at Ms. Narwin about the suspension. This then spreads all over the nation about a high schooler getting suspended for being patriotic. Many people send letters and telegrams to tell how they feel about this act. Philip stands up and defends himself from anything that comes his way. Then one day he had trouble with the track team of not getting a good grade in English. He goes to Ms. Narwin for some extra work to do to raise his grade, but then she doesn't let him come to get extra work. Philip thinks that everybody hates him and moves to Washington to a private school to get away from everybody.
Why I rated this book a four-star is because it is difficult to understand at the beginning of the book. The Format is different for quotes and conversations. The book as no action or much excitement. It is a great example of everyday life of a teenager. But overall, it is a great book that I may think interesting and has earned that Newbery Honor.
The part that I enjoyed is that when I hear that Ms. Narwin is going to resign because of all the commotion and disturbance going around the atmosphere. They recieve hundreds of letters and telegrams about this patriotism and suspending. Philip at that time felt proud and strong that he held his rights. He then moves to a private school in Washington to get away from everybody at Harrison High.

Summary: Nothing But The Truth--Never Judge A book By Its Cover
Review: For our seventh grade English class, my group and I had to read the book Nothing but the Truth by Avi. At first, we found this book to be extremely boring. The plot was hard to follow at times and the main character, Philip Malloy acted as if he were a spoiled brat. He complained about almost everything and his parents listened to his every complain. Throughout the book, the same event kept happening. This novel was written through memos, conversations and letters. At some points it became VERY confusing. When something good starts to happen, it all of a sudden ends and leaves you confused and wondering. If you were wondering if this is a good book, I would have strongly recommended that you do not read this book. But as the story went on, it became more and more interesting, but still confusing to understand.

My favorite part of this book was the part where Philip got transferred to a different school after all the media had gone over the situation of the Star-Spangled Banner issue. I found it really funny when he was asked to sing the Star-Spangled Banner along with the rest of the class, when he finally admits that he does not know the words to the song.

I wouldn't really recommend this book to anyone who isn't interested in a book with no point or purpose. I have read other books by Avi, but I would say this is the most confusing book I have ever read by Avi. I know Avi can do better, but I guess the reason for all the confusion and boredom could be for this book is a documentary. I sort of enjoyed this book with its content and how the plot went. I could really relate to this story with a lot of other teens these days.

Summary: Nothing But The Truth
Review: I detested this book, and so did several of my friends. I am surprised that this book was even published. The story is pointless and BORING, as well as hard to understand. Why waste your time on garbage? The title of the story doesn't have anything to do with the book, and is just a trap to get your attention. If you insist on reading it, borrow it, because you'll want to return it.
