Rating: Summary: Nothing But The Best Review: This book is excellent. It is very suspenseful, you won't want to put it down. Philip (main character) has one big conflict in this novel, but the more people he tells it to, the more they stretch out the truth, and Phil's pride doesn't help either. Soon Philip has a lot of conflicts, and not just him but his parents, friends, and teachers. At the end of this book, there are nothing but lies; it is very good, and I recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Nothing but the truth Review: Nothing but the truth was a very good book I truly enjoyed it. I give this book 5 stars beacause it deserves each one. Nothing but the truth is a book I would recommend to anyone, it's a book that has a great beginning, middle, and end. Once you read this book you won't want to stop until you finish.
Rating: Summary: Creative Bias or Truth..........? Review: Nothing but the Truth is a creative book with an unusual format. Compared to many books, this novel shows relations towards the American Public's biased ways. The book is staged at various places including Harrison High. The main characters of the book are Philip Malloy and Mrs. Narwin(a teacher a Harrision High). The book is based on the controversy of Philips suspension by Mrs. Narwin for frequently humming the "Star Spangled Banner" during announcments. The controversy evolves towards the local public when a candidate for the "School Board Adminstration" decides to use it in his campaign. The plot of Nothing but the Truth shows the effectivence of bias within the American public when the people of Harrison form sides upon the controversy. The author displays this information by using many formats, such as letters, conversations, and faxes.I would recommend Nothing but the Truth because it is very creative and unusual, making it very efficent towards the reader's wants.
Rating: Summary: One Side of the Whole Truth... Review: Nothing but the Truth is an exaggerated representation of real life situations in American schools. It displays a situation between a student and a teacher in the classroom. After very little talking, this issue hits the media with only one side of the story. People unfortunately have a tendency to taking sides with as little information as possible. This documentary like novel is written in many different formats including dialogue, letter, memo and newspaper article format. This gets the reader very involved with the story and enables the reader to understand most characters' true intentions and feelings. This will help the reader take sides fairly. If you enjoy reading novels with some kind of interesting plot and format, then I recommend you pick up this book and sit down with a glass of fresh and sweet lemonade. -Mohamed
Rating: Summary: Let the Truth be Told... Review: The novel Nothing but the Truth is a documentary novel that deserves your attention. The author, Avi, has you interact with the characters through scripts, conversations, memos, letters, diary entries, and more. You would never believe a person could be suspended for singing or humming the national anthem at school, right? Well, think again, because that is exactly what happened to a 14 year old boy named Philip Malloy, thanks to a teacher called Narwin. Instead of taking the suspension as everyday news, he takes it to the news... which is the newspaper. Now I would consider him to be very stubborn after that scene, but you will be wondering how so many people could or could not agree with him with the surprising ending. I found this novel to be a very good but not one of my all time favourites. I recommend you read to see what I mean... but then again you will enjoy Hide and Seek by James Patterson to be interesting. Mystery books with murders and puzzling plots always interest me more than a novel about school...
Rating: Summary: Not exactly my kind of novel Review: If you like a book that is politically incorrect, then you'll like the book Nothing but the Truth. This book is about a ninth grade boy, Philip Malloy, who was suspended by vice principal Dr. Joseph Palleni, for humming the national anthem while it was playing over the intercom. Philip's suspension caused a big riot in the nation. Nothing but the Truth, is much better than other books I've read this school year, such as Snow Goose. The book is funnier, more realistic, and more interesing because it is written in documentary form.
Rating: Summary: Better than I thought it'd be Review: This book was better than I thought it'd be, but when I first saw it I thought it would be boring so that doesn't say much. I wouldn't recommend this book for everyone. Maybe someone who was bored, with nothing to do, or if they like books in documentary format, they might enjoy Nothing but the Truth. The novel is about a boy, Philip Malloy, who is suspended from school for humming along with the National Anthem. When this becomes public it spins out of Philip's control and ruins the lives of several people including himself. I didn't like most of the characters in the story. Some were stubborn and unwilling to bend and the ones I did like were unable to speak because the stubborn guys drowned them out with their babbling. The author, Avi, of Nothing but the Truth, presents the data in a good and clear way but it still can't compare to books like The Golden Compass or The Speaker for the Dead. So, if you really have nothing to do than you can read this, you might like it depending on what you are like.
Rating: Summary: The Truth Shall Set You Free! Review: The novel Nothing But The Truth, was an interesting book. The author, Avi, really knows how to relate to today's teens. This story involves a boy named Philip who got suspended for humming the national anthem during the morning exercises. Like most teens, Philip is a very stubborn person. After Philip's story branched out, it was a very controversial issue. His story was printed in the newspapers, aired on the news and aired on radio stations. Many people would pick Philip's side of the story and not even listen to the other side. This book was also interesting because, unlike most books, this is written in memos, diary entries, scripts, letters and conversations. You have to read the book! The ending will suprise you and believe me, Avi will keep you on your toes. MoRgAn
Rating: Summary: Worst Book I've Ever Read Review: This was just about the dumbest book I've ever read. Worst of all, the majority of the book's setting took place in Harrison High School, which isn't the best place to write about to attract young readers. The plot was absolutely ridiculous. I honestly can't believe that someone took the time to write about a boy named Philip Malloy, and how he was suspended for singing the national anthem. Philip was an immature 9th grader and I think he deserved to be suspended for disobeying his English teacher Ms. Narwin. The format of this book was most defintely unique. It didn't have any chapters and Avi used a lot of dialogue in his book. Compared to this book I think "Winnie the Pooh's Great Adventure" blew this one straight out the water! Never in a million years would I reccomend this book to anyone, because it was a boring and pointless novel that seemed to drag on forever.
Rating: Summary: Nice!! Review: From The cover you would have never guessed this book to be so interesting. The book was written in a documetary format. Philip Malloy, the main character, was suspended from school for humming the national anthem. This story makes the news all over the U.S.,"Kid Suspended for Patriotism." This was a nice book and the ending was great.I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to have their thoughts and opinions challenged.
