Summary: This book is really good
Review: I thought this book was really good. It is about a boy named Philip who sings loudly and disrespectfully during the national anthem at school to get his teacher in trouble. He then gets suspended, and the press finds out. Then the story just keeps changing, and all the information is incorrect.

I would recommend this book to anyone.

Summary: One of the Best Books I Have Ever Read!!!
Review: This book was awesome, in my opinion. In the book, Phillip gets suspended from school for humming the national anthem. The whole nation finds about Phillip and Miss Narwin (his English teacher). The end was a surprise for me. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it yet. I thought that the style that Avi used was very interesting and made the novel a hit in my book. It was just a very good book. THE END.

Review: Nothing But the Truth Avon Books, 1991, 212 pp., $4.99

Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? Does anyone say no to this question? I wouldn't think so. In Nothing But the Truth, Philip Malloy said "no." Nothing but the truth by Avi takes place in Harrison, New Hampshire. It tells about a student, Philip Malloy, who doesn't exactly tell the whole truth and big things happen because of it. Philip Malloy gets suspended for singing the national anthem. At least, that is what he says. From small misunderstandings and untold details, people like parents, neighbors, and even reporters assume things that are not true and blow them out of proportion.
This is a documentary novel and the story is told by phone conversations, memos, diary entries, newspaper stories, and letters. I liked how details were revealed through letters and memos. That way, the author didn't have to write about everything that happened that day. The letter would highlight the most important part. Also, it was interesting that he hummed in class but lets the reporter think he was singing. Philip also left out that the teacher told him to stop before she kicked him out. This shows how a teenager explains things and leaves out details that would incriminate him.
This book was interesting all the way through. The end was very funny and unexpected. It also proves that Philip wasn't telling the whole truth. I recommend this book for all teenagers because it is about a teenager and his problems. I recommend it especially for our class and my age since Philip is the same age as we are. I never thought that the story would get in the papers and become nationwide that a student was suspended for patriotism. In a way Philip did not tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

Summary: "Nothing But The Truth" Review
Review: The book "Nothing but the truth" by Avi, is a good book. Avi writes in such an interesting form, it really gets you into it the book. But the book altogether is about a boy (Pillip Malloy) who has a total disregaurd for his English teacher (Ms.Narwin)But has a love for track. These two things end up clashing, and he is not able to get onto the track team. So He is convinced that it's all Ms.Narwin's fault. When all she wants is to teach him along with the rest of her students the love of literature. This leads to him singing the national anthem and getting suspended, but I don't want to get into it to much.
But altogether this book is very interesting and you will be suprised at how it ends.
I recomend this book..

Summary: Not so great....
Review: "Nothing But the Truth" had a nice idea behind it. I thought that it was interesting that Avi would write a book about standing up for your rights, but I also thought that this book simply repeated the same details over, and over, and over. The ending didn't make sense, either.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great discussion starting for youth rights
Review: I doubt there needs to be one more review of this book, but I'm going to write one anyway! Nothing But the Truth, by Avi, is an interesting documentary/play that reads like a novel. The voices of the different characters are clear, and rather than being boring, it is nicely broken up to keep you guessing about what is coming next? What will the principal say next, what will the parents say?

This story can also jump start interesting discussions about rules and rights. It is less about singing the Star Spangled Banner and more about having the right (or permission to do so). The adults in this novel don't know why they are inforcing the rule, only knowing that they "have to." WHY???

Highly Recommended!
