Rating: Summary: Boring, yet accurate Review: I found this to be a very dull book. It's all about a kid that has no clue as to what he's doing a pursues a pointless objective that he doesn't even really care about. I gave it three stars because it is accurate and shows the reader how foolish some people really do behave.
Rating: Summary: Exellent Review: What happens when a boy hums the national anthem? In Nothing But The Truth, by Avi, Philip Malloy, a ninth-grader, hums the national anthem. His strict teacher, Mrs. Narwin, insists on silence and sends him to the office. The media hears about this and makes it sound like Philip committed an act of Patronisim and the teacher is an enemy to Americans. Avi excellently writes this book through dialogue and diary entries. However using this form of writing makes it a little confusing at times. Nothing But the Truth is a great book which makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time. I recommend this book to young adults.
Rating: Summary: Nothing But The Truth Review: Nothing But The Truth, by Avi, takes places in Harrison High in modern times. It is about a boy named Philip Malloy who is suspended for 'patriotism.' The teacher, Miss Narwin, didn't suspend him, but everyone, including a reporter, thinks she did. The reporter, Ms. Stewart, sends it to the town newspaper, the Manchester Record. Philip's parents think that his problems in homeroom are legitimate, so they are on his side, as is almost everyone else who hears about his problems. People send letters to newspapers about Philip's problems from all over the country. Everyone feels guilty about Philip and they blame Miss Narwin. The style of this book is very unusual. The story makes me feel confused because it has many types of conversation and communication. Even though it was a little hard to follow, you should read this book; it is a fine book with a twist at the end.
Rating: Summary: why this was unpleasent Review: In the novel Nothing But The Truth by Avi, the main character is a fourteen-year-old boy named Philip. Philip isn't allowed to be on the track team because he receives a "D" in English class and he needs a "C" to pass. He doesn't like his English teacher, so he tries to get kicked out of her class to get another teacher. He wants to get kicked out because he claims Miss Narwin is failing him. He causes a raucous, but it back- fires on him. He still can't get on the track team, which he desperately wants to do. Philip is suspended and thanks to all the people involved, everybody gets the story wrong. This novel is written in a documentary novel format. The story is told through memo, letters, and diary entries. Since the story is so action- packed there is never a dull moment. I would really recommend this book because everybody could go though a situation like this.
Rating: Summary: Nothing but the truth Review: The book that I read was called Nothing but The Truth by Avi and the setting is at Harrison High School. The book is about a boy named Philip Malloy and a teacher named Miss Narwin. Philip does not like Miss Narwin because he says that she has it in for him, but she does not; she just wants to help him. He could not be on the track team because he is failing in his class with Miss Narwin. He is a great runner and he would have been a great person in the track team, if he made it. He gets in Miss Narwin's homeroom and that's where all the trouble begins. The style of the book is pretty weird but cool at the same time and creative, too. It has a lot of things going on. For example, there are memos, letters, telegrams and newspaper articles. You should read the book to see what happens to him and what his lies cost him. This book was o.k. and I recommend this book to everybody who takes the easy way out, like lying to keep out of trouble, and those who make a big deal out of something small. I really liked the end. It was funny and there should be another part after the end that tells what happened to him and whether or not he regrets everything that his lack of truthfulness cost him.
Rating: Summary: Philip's promblem Review: Nothing but the Truth, by Avi, is a novel about a boy named Philip and a teacher named Miss Narwin who really don't get along. One day, Philip is suspended for humming "The Star-Spangled Banner" during homeroom. There is a big fuss because everybody seems to take sides at school. In fact, Philip even begins to believe the lie he told himself. Philip lies when he says he was singing, even when he was only humming. I liked the fact that this book has a lot of memos because it had a different style of writing than other books. But I would not recommend this book because it is boring and there's too much fuss about singing "The Star-Spangled Banner."
Rating: Summary: nothing but the trouth Review: The book I read, Nothing But The Truth by Avi, took place in New Hampshire in a modern high school. It's about a kid named Philip Malloy who goes through a lot of drama when he just wants to get away from his English teacher, Miss Narwin. So what he does is hum the " Star Spangled Banner.'' The first time he hums, Miss Narwin asks him to stop and to stand at respectful silent attention. For not stopping, he gets suspended. Mr. Malloy is very upset about what the school does to his son. The news gets big and makes the newspaper. To find out the rest of the facts, read the book. My opinion is that this is a very good book because the style is something you don't see very often. It's written in mostly dialogue form which I like very much. I recommend this to everyone because it's a good book with a lot of drama
Rating: Summary: Nothing But The Truth Review: Nothing But The Truth by Avi is about a 15 year old boy in high school named Philip Malloy. He wants to get out of his teacher Miss Narwin's class because he failed her class and, with a failing grade, he cannot be on the track team. He does not like her and does not like her class. He tries to get out of her class by humming when he is supposed to be being silent. He hums The Star Spangled Banner three days in a row. This disturbance causes a scene and he gets suspended. This causes problems for a lot people. The style of part of the book is like a play. Also, it has a lot of diary entries. It has memos on pages also. These many different entries made me feel confused. I think this book was pretty good and I would recommend this book to another person. I would recommend this book to a lot of people because it was interesting and it kept my attention.
Rating: Summary: nothing but the truth review Review: Nothing But The Truth Review The book Nothing But the Truth ,written by Avi, is about a boy named Philip in New Hampshire who loves track but who cannot get on the track team because he failed English. He tries to get on his English teacher's, Miss Narwin's ,nerves. Miss Narwin is also his homeroom teacher. He gets on her nerves by humming the National Anthem and gets kicked out of class to the principal's office. Then the school board and the press get involved and people think that Miss Narwin is unpatriotic. Philip lies to everyone and it turns into a case of "he said she said." Philip ends up with more than he bargained for when it turns into a big mess. The style of this book is a documentary novel, a term coined by the author, because it is told through lots of different characters' dialogues, letters, phone calls and Philip's diary. I think this is a good book for a class because it gives students parts to read out loud. I recommend this book for people who like reading in groups or like reading parts.
Rating: Summary: Nothing But The Truth Review: The book that I just finished reading was Nothing But The Truth by Avi. The main characters are Philip Malloy and his teacher Miss Narwin. Philip is suspended for being disrespectful by humming the National Anthem. The teacher thinks that he is singing. But Philip is actually humming. He gets suspended for a very stupid reason! The teachers and the principal take his learning privileges from him. The principal could have at least given him in- school- suspension or detention. He couldn't learn for two days! He was probably at home watching TV while he could have been in school learning!! How could he get suspended? The headlines read that he was suspended for patriotism. The worst part about this problem is that it isn't even his academic class, it is just homeroom. When the news reporter gets involved in this BIG problem the reporters started calling some of the students and asking them if they knew if they heard Philip singing or humming. But most of them just didn't know what to say! One of the boys said that he wasn't loud or anything because he wasn't even singing- he was humming! I think this book is a great book because it has something in it that could happen to any teenager, in high or middle school. Getting suspended could happen to any student because its something that could even happen to you!!! But guess what? This book is good because it pulls teenagers in. I think this book should get five stars because in my opinion in this book is that I think its really good! This book pulls in so mayny people!
