Rating: Summary: The Immortals... Immortaly remember by me Review: Ok! People, I didn't want to read the book at all. My grandma made me read two pages of the first book, Wild Magic, in Chapeter 7. I thought they were boring, but since it was the whole series or nothing, I decided I wanted the whole series because I love books. I never thought I would practically be a laughing hyena over some parts, and a crying over the sad parts! Anyway, I loved the series, and ever since I read them I named my self Daine, Alanna, or Veralidaine Sarrasri everytime I played a computer game like that! Although the 4th book did leave me with a few questions....
Rating: Summary: For any magic lover!!! Review: i got this book through a friend. At first it didn't really click but after some time and the first few pages, i was hooked! Tamora Pierce gives descriptions which don't bore you to death like most people. Set in a completely fictional and definitely more exciting than the real world type of place, Sandry's Book is a captivating read. The characters are easy to relate to. Sandry feels that what people think she's supposed to be is the opposite of who she is, Daja feels restrained, not being able to do what she wants due to tradition, briar feels like an outcast ready to rebel and Tris feels like everything is against her most of the time and her anger is easy to understand. Over all, it's a must read book.
Rating: Summary: Coulda Done Better Review: I love Tamora Pierce. She's my favorite author, mainly because she's talented, makes amazing charcters, and even better plots. So I was pretty surprised when I got this book. I guess you could say I was dissapointed. I found it hard to follow, and the plot wasn't all that great, although the main idea of magic was good. I would suggest maybe checking the book out, instead of buying it. Don't give up on the series, though; book 2 & 3 are way better. But if you want a good Pierce series, get Song of the Lioness or Immortals.
Rating: Summary: If this was from any lesser author she'd be forgiven... Review: ...for putting out this type of work. I remember getting this book because I've enjoyed this author's work in the past. The Quartet was wonderful. Sure, it was cliche, but it was still a very good read. Things can be cliche and still end up being nice and charming. I loved those books. When Immortals came out, I ate it up, but it left a sour taste in my mouth towards the end. In the beginning it was wonderful, but somewhere durring the third book it began to drop off. And, by the Goddess, it didn't stop dropping off at this book. It kept going. Sure, there's plenty worse out there, but when a good author begins to drop off, it tends to tick me off. This is similar to the waterfall that Redwall fell down when Outcast of Redwall was written, only not as severe. The new characters were ok, but nothing too great or lovable. If you don't put out excellent characters, the story won't flow as well, because people don't want the good guys to win because they're cardboard cutouts, they want them to win because they're interesting and lovable and amusing! That's my first gripe: that the leads are really cutouts of other characters, it was hard for me to want them to survive because they were the good guys. Second, the new world that they're in... it did not seem very real to me, sort of like it was thrown together at the last minute by the Gods. Tortall is a much better world, simply because it's been fleshed out through the past books, so it does not have the feel of a map hastily drawn out with names stuck on like Pierce was playing pin the tail on the donkey. The story itself was dull as well, for the most part. However, the introduction of crafts magic was interesting.Basically, this series is ok if you're already a fan of fantasy, though do not start on it if you are just getting into the genre - it is not a wonderful example of the work this genre can produce. Take my advice and look at Piece's older books first, so that you won't be frightened away from them upon reading this one first. This book is not horrible, but it's not wonderful either. So, its score is right between the two extremes: three.
Rating: Summary: Sandry's Book Review: Ok, I would never give Tamora Pierce less than 5 stars, I love her books. But I think it's missing some romance. There's little hints everywhere like Tamora wishes she could put it in but then doesn't because it's for kids. Hopefully Tamora will read this and think about it.
Rating: Summary: it was o.k. but definetlly not the best Review: I luv Tamora Pierce and when i first read this book i wuzz totally blown away and thought it wuzz the greatest, but in my opinion after i read the series i moved to The immortal series, and then to the Alanna series. I realized after i read those books that this book wuzz nothing compared to them ! this book is about 4 kids who come to the winding circle because they have magic that they r going to be teached about, but they all have problems with the other kids so they go to a special tower and that's when the 4 friends meet and become life long friends, it was a pretty good book but it could'v been a lot more descriptive and had a little of a better plot. if u want to read excellent books though read the immortal series by tamora Pierce, and the Alanna series by tamora Pierce I think that if u iked this book u will d efinetlly be blown away by her other books. i would also recommend the pthe protecter of the small series by her, and the series after this it is called the circle opens and that book has the same exact characters it's just when they r older ,and it's based on one of the characters only so that book was very good I thought !
Rating: Summary: Tamora Pierce does it once again in this great book! Review: First off, I LOVE this quartet. Some people have said these books aren't nearly as good as the Tortall books. I myself am a huge Alanna fan, but I love this book. A noble, a merchant, a Trader, and a thief who have all encountered difficulties are braught together by mage Niklaren Goldeye... It is a different setting entirely from the song of the Lioness books. THese are children learning not to fight, but to be mages. Their magic is in crafts, and other everyday things. I think that this book is wonderful and just as good as any other of Tamora Pierce's books. I hope you enjoy it the way I did!
Rating: Summary: Sandry+Briar? (I hope so) Review: Ok, this was a totally awesome book. I have not read any of her other books so I don't know how it is compared to them. I didn't think it was as good as the other books in the quartet because it didn't have enough romance between Sandry and Briar (I can make romance out of the simplest phrase). I have to say that Sandry and Briar are my 2 favorite characters. then Daja. I don't like Tris because, in this book, Briar seems to like her and that just makes me mad. Oh, well, though. The cover is kind of misleading for all you Sandry+Briar fans. I didn't like the beginning very much but the end rocked. Oh, and one thing I DIDN'T like about this book was that you didn't get to know Rosethorn very well and you thought she was totally mean (at least, you might have. But the other books suggest otherwise. Being the total idiot I am, I read the Circle Opens 1st, thinking IT was the 1st book in the series and I was totally confused so I read this one LAST. OH well, though. It was GREAT! (Go Sandry and Briar! )
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Fantasy Book Review: In this book, the outcast Sandry meets Tris, Briar and Daja, all young, unsuspecting mages. While Sandry has magic with thread, Daja has magic with metal, Briar with plants, and Tris with the weather. Sandry, Daja, Tris and Briar are just beginning to call Winding Circle home when disaster strikes.....
Rating: Summary: Impressive! Review: Along with some of Ms. Pierce's other readers I was disappointed when I learned that she would be writing a series that does not occur in the realm of Tortall. I was totally impressed when I read this book. The description of the surroundings and happenings are so vivid that this whole new world comes to life, in a completely different dimension than that of Tortall. I loved this book and I do not think that it is necessarily for a younger reading level, even though it is marked that way. Another hit that you just have to read!
