Rating: Summary: insultingly simple and sweet Review: First of all, I like his suspense books, and I like a good romance, but this book is a pathetic attempt to cash in on the Bridges of Madison County, Message in A Bottle type of book. Except that both of those books are much better! This is almost a collection of cliches and stereotypes...cardboard people with no real feelings, depth, or motivation for anything they do. I would say, pass on the book, and wait for the movie which will undoubtedly follow.
Rating: Summary: Diary in a Bottle Review: In this case, you can judge a book by its cover - or at least by its size. A slim volume holding a slim, insubstantial tale. After writing a series of unique and popular thrillers, Mr. Patterson has decided to rework the story of Message in a Bottle. Why would an author with hi$ own con$iderable following $witch to this mindle$$ romantic drivel? He $hould be embara$$ed!
Rating: Summary: A true awakening in what is really important in life Review: I have just finished reading this new book by James Patterson. It made me realize that the most important thing in life is life itself and the people in your life. Jobs, money, and all materialistic things can come and go, but life and family can never be replaced. It has put a new perspective in my life. I made me realize that there is more to life than a great career and money. I greatly recommend reading this book and really doing some soul searching afterwards.
Rating: Summary: A Beautiful; Story Review: This is not the James Patterson we all know and have come to expect a certain kind of book from. This is a different James Patterson, who displays a warm and sensitive side, unfamiliar to all of us. It is the story of Matt,Suzanne, Nicholas and Kate - of tender love, devotion, loss and sadness. Suzanne and Kate are near-perfect women and Matt is the ideal man, whom all women are searching for. Perhaps the characters are too flawless, but it matters not. This is a small, easily readable book, but will grip you with its intensity and leave you teary-eyed, yet joyful. I found this book to be so very moving, and felt better for having read it.
Rating: Summary: Hackdom knows no bounds. Review: If he isn't busy killing off women with menace, now he's killing all of us with this syrupy, trite garbage. Patterson would be the first to tell us he's a serious writer, but put this in the heap with the worst of Danielle Steele and Jackie Collins. But hey, it's that time of year when his name has disappeared from the best-selling lists, and so here comes another work that took about 20 minutes to put together. Bridges of Madison County looks like a Nobel prize winner by comparison.
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: I love James Patterson's books featuring Alex Cross. I was a little hesitant to buy this one, knowing it was a little off course for James Patterson. But I am so glad I picked it up. It grabs you from the first page and does not let go until you read that last line. I closed the book and all I could think was "Wow!" It touched me and moved me, brought a few tears, and maybe taught me a lesson or two about life! Definitely worth the read!!!!!
Rating: Summary: So-o bad Review: Patterson's latest is his worst yet. I knew not to expect his usual, but this is beyond the pale. It reads like a serial in a woman's magazine. I can't help but imagine he, or someone close to him, has suffered heart problems and this self-serving, maudalin tripe is a result of reflections on that. I cannot believe the professional reviews. This is not merely lighthearted or breezy--it's just poorly developed and written. Where are Patterson's editors? Once you become a big name is there no one who will tell you when something needs a lot more work?
Rating: Summary: Rocky Mountain Reader Review: I'll not retell the plot; you can read the book for the story line, but I will say that I was totally moved to tears by Patterson's new book. I saw the interview on the Today Show, and I thought, "I wouldn't cry; it's fiction for pete's sake!" HA! I began reading yesterday p.m., and I finished the novel yesterday p.m.! I couldn't put it down. I knew someone as loving and kind as Matt could not leave Katie unless something traumatic had happened to him. When I got to Matt's portion of the diary, I was not surprised by the first revelation, but I was not prepared for the second one! I began to cry, and I continued to do so...I am a parent; I have loved. Patterson drew me into the plot, and although the reader sees the foreshadowing, when one finally gets to the climax, it stings! The language and sentence structure is simplistic, but pure and sincere. If you have a few hours, don't pass this one up! It helps one reassess priorities.
Rating: Summary: Surprisingly enjoyable Review: Kate Wilkinson has found the man of her dreams Matt Wolfe, but just as their relationship has flourished, Matt leaves, leaving behind a diary. Matt explains to read the diary will be painful, but if Kate is to truly understand everything she must read it. Kate begins the diary written by a woman named Suzanne for her son Nicholas. Page after page, Kate is drawn into this woman's love story for her young son, and to her shock, realize the boy's father is Matt! Painful to believe, but determined to get all the answers, Kate continues to read, only to discover the shocking secret that has Matt pulling away. Kate has never backed down from anything, and even after finishing the diary, she sets out to get the man she loves. When I first received my review copy of 'Suzanne's Diary For Nicholas' I thought, "Oh no, another thriller writer bites the dust", but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The story unfolds at a fast-pace, giving the reader the opportunity to finish it in a couple of hours. The story of Suzanne is heart wrenching, and tragic, and at the same time uplifting, as it incorporates itself into the lives of Matt and Kate. James Patterson is a very good writer, and while many of his thriller fans will be somewhat shocked at this sudden departure, he does manage to do the impossible, switch genres successfully. Mr. Patterson has written a novel very similar to the works of Nicholas Sparks, and fans of this type of fiction, as well as fans of Patterson will be rushing out to buy this. Nick Gonnella
Rating: Summary: Splendid!! Review: This is absolutely the best book I have read all summer. I hadn't guessed the end, and, found this novel to be a real page-turner which I couldn't put down. I just wanted to keep reading, learn what happened, and what happens. What a beautifully written story. I strongly recommend this book, for a quiet Saturday afternoon, to accompany a cup of tea, a purring cat, comfy sofa, and a sunny spot. A veritable pleasure!!!
