Summary: SAP!
Review: Is it just me or does the character Suzanne sound like a 13 year old most of the time? She's sweet, yes, but for someone who supposedly has been through so much, and is an intellegent doctor, she really lacks depth. I hate to trash anyone's hard work. It was a sweet love story, just not a very realistic one. Wait until you can check it out of the library.

Summary: Soulful Summer Read
Review: This is a wonderful way to wile away a lazy summer's afternoon. It reads quickly; even the slowest reader could get to the last page regretably in a few hours. A touching and meaningful story that will pull at your heartstrings.

I was in the mood for a "Bridges of Madison County" kind of treat when I picked this book up and was not disappointed. ....A sweet series of memories with a story most realistic and honest.

If you want something to cherish and invite your imagination, this is a story beautifully written with an intrigue of its very own. Patterson is best known for his interesting & mysterious tales. In its own way, this love story is exactly that and more.

Summary: Finally, someone who compares to Nicholas Sparks!
Review: Nicholas Sparks has long been a favorite author of mine and I anxiously await the 364 days in between finishing his latest book and reading his next release the following fall. Now, hopefully, James Patterson can fill some of that void. While I will agree with some of the other reviews that it was slightly "sugary sweet" and just a little bit sappy (hence - 4 stars, not 5), it was satisfying enough to devour in 24 hours (that's another reason for the 4 stars - I wish it were longer). It is a very fast read - short chapters, short "sections". It definitely reads as if you were reading someone else's diary - you may even find yourself hoping you won't get caught! There should have been more story in between - there was some attempt at that, but not enough. While I feel I got to know Suzanne, Matt & Nicholas, I don't feel I got to know Katie that well, or learned enough about her relationship with Matt. That area should have been explained and explored a little bit more. Mr. Patterson relied heavily on the diary itself to tell the story, and it just isn't long enough to fill a satisfying book. I do hope Mr. Patterson writes another book of this type - I have to be honest, I've never read any of his other work because I don't like thrillers or mysteries - but I do hope he gives "women's fiction" or "Modern Romance" another try. He could easily fill the gap in the year in between Nicholas Sparks' releases!!! I'm always looking for something to fill that void and so far, Mr. Patterson's book has come closest. Thank you for giving me another satisfying book to hold me over until September when "Bend in the Road" is released - Maybe your next book can come out next spring!!!!

Summary: Thank you, James Patterson!
Review: What a wonderful read! It was such a heartwarming book. I'm a big fan of James Patterson and I've read all his books to date. This was such a change. Almost shocking. The power of his words and how he captured the love a mother feels for her child is truly amazing. It is written that some of this book was based on his own life experiences, well, "Isn't it lucky" Mr. Patterson shared it with us.

Summary: In a word...."pap"
Review: Honestly, this reads like dime store romance novel. Each character is perfect in every way...save the predictable tragic death(s). Each is beautiful, sensitive, intellegent, talented, from wealthy backgrounds, yadda, yadda, yada. Even Suzanne can't help but compliment herself repeatedly throughout her diary. She breaks her arm patting herself on the back about how "lucky" she is in every way. Even the baby is "perfect". Suzanne happily calls him "showoff" when he holds a bottle at 2 months, rides around on the back of her bicycle at less than a year, and speaks numerous words before his first birthday. Give me a break. My teeth hurt.

Summary: A great surprise
Review: When I received James Patterson's most recent book I was disapointed to see that it was a romance. To my surprise it was a great read - The characters where so vivid, the whole story I could see before my eyes - A true love story! I will always remember the 5 balls and apply it to my own life. Thanks again James!

Summary: Heartwarming
Review: Ah, how I wish I could be James Patterson. He can write about ANYTHING! I hate sappy love stories. "Bridges of Madison County" almost made me throw up. Patterson goes about it in a much more realistic and "as it is" manner. This man is a genius. Please keep writing!

Summary: A moving experience
Review: Out of curiosity I bought this book. I am not sorry. Even though this is a drastic change from Thomas Patterson's usual homicidal characters, I found myself enthralled and finished this book in one evening.

Much like the Gabin & Sabine series, as you read Suzanne's most private thoughts, hopes, dreams and disapointments, the voueyer in all of us flourishes! This hearbreaking tale of lost found and lost is well worth the price. If you are a mother, I recommend you don't miss this one!

Summary: AN ARTFUL READING
Review: In a departure from his highly successful lineup of thrillers James Patterson has written a love story. His writing is as crisp, concise, and fast paced as ever, but this time out readers' pulses will pound for far different reasons.

Stage, film, and television actress Becky Ann Baker artfully assumes the voice of Katie Wilkinson, a young woman who believes she has found the love of her life in Matt Harrison. We feel she may be a bit astigmatic as Matt disaapears, leaving behind only a heartbroken Katie and a diary his first wife, Suzanne, kept for their son, Nicholas.

In telling detail Suzanne, a physician who suffered a heart attack at the age of 35, relates how she and Matt met, and married. Almost against her will Kattie finds herself drawn to Suzanne and Nicholas. She wonders what has happened to them. Another questions haunts: does she have a future with Matt?

Leave it to Patterson ("Along Came A Spider" (1992), "1st To Die" (2001) to combine amour and mystery, thus presenting a page-turning love story.

Summary: Different for Patterson but......
Review: While I am a fan of the author and appreciate the fact that he is branching out, I found this novel to be just a little too corny. I can also enjoy a well written love story, which this tries to be, but after finishing this book in one day, I felt as if there could have been much more. Somewhat predictable.
