Rating: Summary: The movie does not do the novel justice Review: This book is a masterpiece of human insanity and the need for control. The character of Alex Cross is an attractive young widower who does not need our sympathy. He has two young children but with the help of his grandmother is doing well as a single father. Then you have Kate an ambitious young medical intern who has bad luck with men. Their characters get thrown together when she is kidnapped by the same "Casanova" as his favorite niece. The "Casanova" is faceless and Patterson's protrayal of him makes you yearn to remove the masks which hide his face. This novel is full of suspense and mystery. Alex Cross is the investigator we all hope we have if something goes wrong,we all hope to be as strong as Kate Mctiernan, and hope we never encounter Casanova. In all the movie "Kiss the Girls" didn't even get close to showing the audience the complexity of the human psyche.
Rating: Summary: Style of Writing Review: This is the first book where the style of writing makes more than half of its success. Short and clear chapters surely facilitate the building of the whole picture. Also, this style helps metropolis-people like me who travels in the underground: whatever the distance of your journey is, you will never get off in the middle of a chapter !!!! Well done.
Rating: Summary: Clumsy plot, undeveloped characters Review: When I first read this book, I expected it to be good or at least interesting since it was made into a movie. However, I was badly disappointed. The author tries to go over the top with having not one but two serial killers, but the result is soggy and nearly unreadable. The plot is confusing and boring and halfway through I found that I just didn't care anymore. Most of the characters are cliches, and all the violence was unnecessary and gratuitous. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone except the hopelessly bored.
Rating: Summary: A one sitting read! Review: I could not put this book down. I started one night figuring I would probably just see the movie anyway, and what a shock when at nine the next morning in my apartment at school I was still awake and finishing the book! Trust me, the movie was NO MATCH. Not even close. Perhaps the most disturbing thing I found in the book was the fact that there is a guy out there (Patterson) who thought this stuff up! That alone is scary! (Read the book and you'll understand) If you like the occasional page turning, thriller with rather disturbing ideas within...pick it up.
Rating: Summary: Read it in 3 hours! Review: I could not put this book down litteraly. I bought this book on a saturday morning took it home and read it in 3 hours! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I read alot of mystery/suspense books but James Paterson, gives me chills. I loved the book, I loved the movie, I will continue to read his works for as long as he keeps writing. James Patersons style of writing reminds me very much of Sue Grafton and Patricia Cornwell. I love his charactures, they are easy love and easy to hate. You find yourself identifying with people in situations you could never imagine. He is a powerful writer with a wonderful, twisted imagination. Bravo!! This book will go on my All Time Favorites shelf.
Rating: Summary: VERY FREAKY!!! You can't put this book down Review: Kiss the Girls was by far better than any other horror or thriller book I've read. Once I started reading it , just couldn't put it down. I got goosebumps on my arms and the story seems so real you can vividly see the events happening in your mind. You've gotta get this book, it's Da' Bomb! I'm sure once you've read this book, you'll never want it to end!BUY IT!BUY IT!BUY IT!.....
Rating: Summary: AWESOME AWESOME BOOK!!! Review: This is the greatest book of all time. You should definently read this book!!! This is an awesome book!!! It is written so perfectly. Everything about this book is perfect!
Rating: Summary: Compelling & Chilling Review: As an avid thriller reader, I'd begun to think I might be immune to feeling the suspense & spine tingling thrill of a really good book... James Patterson has convinced me that I haven't lost my love of the magic! I was swept away by the sheer mystery of the story. I couldn't put it down and was very, very disappointed to find myself @ the last page. Don't let the movie fool you - it doesn't do this novel justice.
Rating: Summary: Gets old fast. Review: After reading a number of Patterson's books I've come to the conclusion that he has some great story ideas, but can't resist the urge to be moralistic which ruins his books. The story in this one was great, but what happens? Alex has to go South--big bad South--to solve his neice's disappearance since the local yokels are too inept and so only he and his super educated, but seemingly caveman buddy have to overcome once more. It's OK for his grandmother and his friend to be racists, but not OK for the rest of the world. He even thinks it's cute on them. Nana Mama isn't an astute, cute old lady, she's an obnoxious old woman. Alex always has to overcome racism. This gets old and boring. His attitude is what puts backs up, not his color. He shows up and tells the locals in effect that he's there to solve the crime they can't and even though it's not his jurisdiction, they had better stay out of his way. Frankly, I think he cares far more about his color than anyone ! else. The perp was so typical of Patterson--who else would it be but the white,Southern cop? This was the thinnest part of his plot--could have come up with something more original or suspenseful. His story ideas are so great, wish he could stick with them and stay off the racism bit, becomes too much. I think I've read/listened to my last of his unless he changes.
Rating: Summary: I never knew I was capable of reading that fast Review: James Patterson's style kept me wanting to read more to the point of not getting enough sleep. I just couldn't put it down. The short chapters keep you interested instead of other books where you tend to look ahead to find out when it will end. On what turned out to be my last night with this book, I said I would only read 40 pages... 150 pages later, I realized that it was over and done with. I immediately purchased the rest of the Alex Cross novels. Great book if you liked Thomas Harris' "Silence of the Lambs".
