Summary: Castro Dictates a Winner
Review: Easy learning at an affordable price. What more can you ask for

Summary: EXCELLENT!
Review: I have read several other books that claim to teach HTML, but this one is by far the best. The companion Web site is a great, too, because you can interact with the examples in the book and see how a modification to the HTML changes the display.I wish the author would write a book teaching Java Script.

Summary: A great way to get started and to keep going!
Review: This book is a concise, easy to read guided tour through the process of creating web pages with HTML 4. Some may find the pictured examples biased toward Mac users, but if both were included the functionality of the book would go right out the window. Castro's book cuts to the chase, leaving out useless text in favor of working examples. A must have for anyone who prefers great results the first time.

Summary: Covers all the bases.
Review: This book takes you step by step through the core essentials of HTML. The syntax highlighting acts as a quick reference guide and, all the extras at the back makes the book complete. This is a very good book!

Summary: Great start-up for All begginners
Review: This book, along with several other Visual QuickStart Guides, are essential reading for any Newby. They provide a great introduction to get anyone started producing Web content. I had some VB and C++ experience, but no web design experience. After reading HTML 4, Dreamweaver 2, DHTML, and Javascript VQS's, I have created a 50 Pg., 175 pg., and 2,500 pg. sites in about two months. In addition, I taught my 65 y.o. mother to create her own site with the help of the VQS series. Don't hesitate, buy these books (great price here at Amazon.com). They also have great companion websites. Once you get started, then look at the "Bible" series or another reference book. Good-luck. P.S. - I don't work for nor am compensated by the publisher.

Summary: Slanted For McIntosh Users! Too briefly summarized a view.
Review: On the basis of all these rave reviews and the book's status as bestseller, I spent my hard-earned money on two of Elizabeth Castro's books including this one and her book on Perl and CGI. What a huge mistake! I wanted a printed reference for quick referral when coding HTML. This book is definitely NOT it. Ms. Castro is somewhat more generous to Mac owners with her information. My machine is an IBM running Windows 98. From my point of view Castro's books are poorly organized, poorly presented, misrepresented, and incomplete. I learned far more in far less time from free tutorials on the web. I recommend a trip to(where Que and SAMS computer books are electronically published and readable in their entirety for FREE). I wish I had saved my money for something better. Buyer beware!

Summary: Well done!
Review: At first, I was skeptical, because HTML seemed to be an easy langauge and there was an abundance of source on the net and elsewhere.

However, this is a great starter for any beginner, and a great reference for more experienced people. HTML is a good language to learn, and if you want to learn, then get this book.

There are several errors, but they are very minor. One that you might want to watch out for: on p.288, the author contradicts herself, first by saying that the META HTTP-EQUIV = "Refresh ... tag must be placed in the BODY, and then by saying it must be in the HEAD. The former is correct.

A great reference, and full of useful links and other forms of help!

Summary: The best way in the world to learn HTML!
Review: This book is great. It's written in a clear, easy to follow format which makes learning HTML fun and easy! I have sold computer books for major publishers for many years but never picked up a QuickStart Guide until now. I didn't know what I was missing!

Summary: Greatest HTML Ever!!!
Review: I enjoy the Visual Quickstart series. This was the first book I bought from the series. It provides just the necessary details to write code in HTML. In others words, it's not too wordy. It's like you can just look at the code and its results and make your way from there. It is an affordable book with no errors.
