Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: Wow, what a great book. This book tells the story Jessica Darling, a sixteen year old who feels really alone after her best friend Hope moves away. Her other friends, nicknamed the 'Clueless Crew' by her and Hope because of their ditzy behaviour, are a bore. She befriends a 'dreg' named Marcus and learns things about herself that she never knew before. Add in her annoyingly perfect sister Bethany who is obsessed with her upcoming wedding, and a guy who everyone is pressuring Jessica to go out with. This book sounds kind of heavy, but it is actually a lot of fun. And very funny. Definfitley recommended for girls 13-17. If you like this book, you would probably also like 'Gossip Girl' by Cecily Von Ziegesar.
Rating: Summary: I did not want to like this book. Review: I thought it was going to be the type of thing where the author pretends she is hip and knows how to talk. Aside from a few slang terms that made me cringe, it is pretty accurate. The thing is, it is amazing how much I could relate to Jessica. Hanging out with people you don't really like because it is better than the alternative, trying to understand your parents as humans instead of parents, negotiating with the things you love in life. One of the greatest things about this book is it doesn't take the typical "It's tough being a teen!" stance. Instead, the characters are real people with real problems rather than caricatures of adolescence. This is a really honest book and it was a pleasant surprise. I look forward to reading more about Jessica.
Rating: Summary: AMAZING Review: This is my all time favorite book. It's about Jessica Darling, a 16 year-old high school student who feels aleinated at school when her best friend moves to Tenasee. Jessica has a clear, interesting writing style that is very true to life. This book makes a lot of references to pop culture and I bet a lot of teenagers will be able to relate to it. The format is great too, much better than that of many diaries. The other kids in this book are so much like the ones in many American public schools nowadays. The way she talks about her school are so true to life. An example, about the prom: "...But enough girls are going with upperclassmen that I feel like a loser because no junior or senior boy wants to get me drunk off Boone's Strawberry Hill so he can cop easy sex off me in the backseat of his parent's SUV. Jesus Christ. What's wrong with me?" Jessica is very smart and witty, thus making this book fun to read. I would recommend this book for anyone between 13-100, but probably not younger because it deals with some mature themes such as drug abuse and teen sex. However, it's a great read and I'm looking forward to the second novel in spring 2003!
Rating: Summary: Fun to be "Sloppy" Review: A year in the life of a teenage girl named Jessica Darling. Told dominantly through journal entries and letters, the book runs from January to December, following Jessica's life after her best friend Hope moves away. Now she hangs out at school with three girls she really doesn't like, fights a crush on a drug-loving boy, and simply tries to make it from one day to the next. This is a cute debut from Megan McCafferty that will certainly appeal to adults who have survived the high school experience and to the teens who are currently living it. If you like a light comedy, if you liked The Princess Diaries or Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging, you'll enjoy Sloppy Firsts.
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK I EVER READ!! Review: I've read alot, and this was one of the best books i've ever read. There's NO WAY you can't read this book without going..."hey..i totally know what she means!" The main character will, in some way, be a mirror image of yourself. I can't wait for the second to come out...
Rating: Summary: High School Dayz Review: Every girl who has ever felt like high school is a pointless experience can identify with this book. For every girl who has ever felt like they are alone in the world of adolecence Jessica will become a best friend. Sloppy Firsts is the most honest account of high school I have ever read! Even if you cannot identify with every experience that Jessica has, no young woman can walk away from this novel with out once yelling out,"I know exactly what she means!"
Rating: Summary: Somethng unsavory here. Review: Instead read Holes by Louis SAchar or Sights by susanna VAnce..4301
Rating: Summary: This book deserves more than 5 stars....... Review: I couldnt put this book down once I started reading. Its soooo funny and I felt that I could really relate to Jessica. I wish I could give it more than five stars. I recomend this book to all teenage girls that are in highschool. Trust me you are going to want more once you are done reading it so go out and buy it right now!
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: This was the best teen book I have ever read! You can really relate to the main character, Jessica, and her chaotic life is so interesting! I couldn't put the book down and I'm looking foward to the sequel, Second Helpings, due out April 2003!
Rating: Summary: Get lost in Sloppy Firsts! Review: Sloppy Firsts is told through Jessica Darling's diary. She has a refreshingly real, jaded view of the people around her. Her "friends" are people you'd find at any high school in America, without being the stereotypical "jock" or "prom queen". I loved this book because I could relate to it so much. Every so often, I would stop reading and think, "That's what I would say!" I read this book in seven hours. I took breaks only to go to the bathroom. I just kind of got lost in Jessica's world, which is a great place to be. Recently, I've been rereading the book because I haven't found anything else that I feel is as good. I think this is a book that all teenage girls should read. It's a great book if you want to get away from the fluff that is The Princess Diaries or the Georgia/Angus series, which treats the reader as if they were two-years-old. Give Sloppy Firsts a try. I wouldn't have spent time writing this review if it wasn't an amazing book!
