Rating: Summary: Oddly Familiar Review: I enjoyed reading this book very much, after reading it I emailed Megan Mccafferty and she e-mailed me back, I thought it was really great of her. Anyway, back to the book, in my own words this book portrays the life of a "normal" teenage girl so accurately you almost have to wonder whether or not it wasn't written by a really 16 year old girl.Jessica's world is decribed wonderfully down to very littlest detail. As an avid reader, I have read most of the teen favorites, but I wouldn't consider this book a run of the mill diary format book about teen angst. This is because Jessica is intelligent yet not perfect, she has all of the traits that human being should have. For instance, she is blantantly honest with us in her"diary", yet she is very skilled at lying. Though she says she hates her body she is not vain, she is just dealing with normal everyday teen life. Yet, Jessica is purely fictional, I applaude Megan Mccafferty for her painfully honest portrayal of any real girl's life. I assure you that when you read this book, no matter what age you will feel like she could be your best friend, who knows?, maybe you'll see a litte of yourself in her.
Rating: Summary: Sloppy Firsts: It's first on my lise Review: Okay, so you start the book seeing Jessica as a sinnical sarcastic teen who's only savior (her best friend) has left her. But don't be fooled! Jessica is smart and knows the real world. TYHis is like the best book ever and everyone has to read it! The scandals of high school are finally revealed to the general public, in a hilarious way! However be warned, Jessica has her fair share of troubles!
Rating: Summary: best teen angst book yet! Review: My friend was raving about this book long before I read it, and for a while I laughed at her obsession. She told me that she lent her copy to all her friends, and "wasn't complete" until she got it back. She forced me to borrow it, but I didn't read it until I was on a long bus ride with nothing else to do. I couldn't put it down once I started! The characters are hilariously real. Jessica Darling is the confused, depressed teenager, while her pseudo-friends Bridget, Sara, and Manda (the "bubble-gum bimboes") are the people you love to hate. Then there's the mysterious rebel/genius Marcus Flutie, who Jessica keeps meeting through the strangest circumstances. Jessica's story, which begins after the move of her best friend Hope, records her experiences fending for herself in a best-friendless world . Her journal entries are incredibly funny and honest. And the teenage vernicular cracked me up. I hear from my friend that there's a sequel coming out sometime next year. I can't wait to read it!
Rating: Summary: A Must Have!! Review: Ever think you and your friends are the only 16 yr olds who have their own special lingo, that no adults could understand?? Well apparently Megan McCafferty knows exactly what you're thinking this book was by far one of the best books I ever read. Its scary how much it relates to things that go on every day at highschool. This book will constantly keep you laughing and makes it hard to put down! I know Megan was a writer of some sort for seventeen magazine which explains how she can write so accurately about 15,16, & 17 yr olds..bottome line read this and you will be waiting like me for her next book to come out!!
Rating: Summary: My favorite book Review: Hopefully by reading the editorial review you know by now what this book is basically about. But it says this book is "light hearted". Obviously the critics only read the plot synopsis on the inside flap and the first ten pages, or they would know that this book can be considered far from lighthearted. They don't tell you that her best friend's brother died of a heroin overdose and that Marcus Flutie was one of his best friends. They don't tell you that Jessica Darling was an accident and that the son her parents wanted died of SIDS two weeks after he was born, and every year her mom pops pills from the anniversary of his birth to the anniversary of his death. Don't get me wrong, this book does have moments that make you laugh out loud, but it goes much deeper than most teenage literature. I've already read it twice and I've only had it for two months.
Rating: Summary: Trama!Drama! Laughs! Review: WOW! If you want a good book to read that will make you laugh this is soo the book for you. This book was exciting on the first page. The book is about boys, sex, dating, clicks, friends, and everything else you can imagine. When you read this book you will never want to put it down. And when you finish the last page you will smile and be sooo happy that you took the time to read it. I hope you enjoy it has much as I did. Ciao
Rating: Summary: Sloppy Firsts is FAR from sloppy! Review: Written in journal form, Sloppy Firsts is all about 16 year old Jessica "Notso" Darling. Still coping with the fact that her best friend, Hope Weaver, has moved away Jessica is forced to spend her days with "The Clueless Crew" and avoiding advances from her pal Scotty. Meanwhile her mother is drivng her crazy over her big sister Bethany's wedding while her father obsesses with her preformance in her track meets. Enter Marcus Fluite the wildly entertaining "dreg" who charms Jessica with his wit and intelligence. This book chronicles Jessica's junior year without Hope, while giving her incisive and witty opinions on everything ranging from sex to X-mas. Along with Jessica you share the ups and downs of teenage life. An excellent book. You can really relate to Jessica. She's funny and a wonderful charecter. I can't wait for the sequal coming in April 2003 "Second Helpings"!
Rating: Summary: LOVED this book!! Review: I absolutely LOVED Sloppy Firsts. Jessica is such a relatable character, you'll find yourself relating incidents that happened to you with incidents that happened with Jessica. I loved this book. It somewhat reminds me of Princess Diaries in a weird way. It's a MUST READ for all teenagers!
Rating: Summary: A Book Every Teenage Girl Should Read Review: Sometimes the books I read just aren't that understanding or that interesting to the point I can't focus on it. This book, "Sloppy Firsts" does the complete opposite for me. It's written like a journal, so right away from picking it up, I knew it would be a good read. Megan McCafferty gets to the point of the main character's life. She doesn't write around it; she writes what I suppose is what teens like. Right from when Jessica's best friend Hope moves, all the way to Jessica becoming friends with the outsider Marcus, I just knew this book is a must read for teenage girls, especially those who may not be considered "popular" and whatnot. Jessica reminds me of myself, not liking the people she associates with all the way to feeling like her parents don't completely know and understand her. Not all adult writers can always write excellent stories and novels about teenagers, like Megan McCafferty did. Some just can't get into it, and make the teenagers seem unrealistic and/or are making teenagers' life unrealistic. This is the perfect book for teenagers (and who knows, even adults) to read, especially if they want to explore themselves and their life a little deeper. Go out and buy the book now! You won't regret it. Honest.
Rating: Summary: Loved this book! Review: Megan McCafferty's first novel is anything but what you'd expect a first novel to be like. As a high school student not only could I relate to the characters and plot, but I was intrigued and excited to find out what would happen. I honestly finished the entire book in 2 days because I just couldn't put it down. I can't wait to get the next one in April!
