Summary: The series was better....
Review: I fell in love with "The 10th Kingdom". Unfortunately, this book is not as good as the miniseries. Of course it has the whole wonderful story and the wacky characters, but it wasn't particularly well written. However, there are a couple of nice photos inside, and it will tide you over until the series is available on video and DVD.

Summary: Seen the series, you'll understand the book better.
Review: This is a review of the book but also a response to Sophie in CA and others who are critcal of the absence of certain words or phrase left out of the novel but included in the series. The book I believe was released in late 1999 and is based on Moore's earlier scripts. However, I think that Moore must have made changes to the script after the two authors saw the original. Hence the fact that there is no council scenes, no elf murder scene, no frog and the two doors scene and so on, in the book. Remember most of the people reading this book will have seen some or all of the series, therefore they already have these scene firmly planted in their minds. I do agree though that Simon Moore's script was far more superior and I too missed Virginia's dialogue at the end. On the whole a good read especially if you are going on a long trip somewhere.

Summary: I always wanted my life to be a fairy story...
Review: Now that I have the book it is! I really enjoyed reading this book (I even saw the movie first)because it gave more emotional depth to the movie characters and answered some questions left unclear by the movie. It is a really great companion to the movie, but is great even if you havn't seen the movie. The book and movie story lines follow close enough together but the book sways just enough from the movie that I found myself saying: "Well that makes more sense!" and "He's even more romantic in writting!". So get into the story too, you'll love it!

Summary: Wonderful book
Review: I read this book in 3 days, and I'm surprised, because the paperback book is 400 and some pages long. Everything in the book seems to follow the movie exactly, although there are a bit of parts that the movie had and the book didn't, or the book had and the movie didn't. One thing though. There's a little bit of too much 'he said, she said'. Needs more variety with that, like more of 'he exclaimed,' or 'she stated.' but other than that, the book was wonderful. I suggest you buy this book, it's a wonderful story.

Summary: Where Can You Buy the Screenplay?
Review: I think it's important to know that this book was concocted by two authors (working under one name, Kathryn Wesley,) and is based entirely on Simon Moore's brilliant screenplay, and not vice versa. If one wants the best possible form of this story, see the miniseries. The book incorporates most of the dialogue and stage directions in a readable fashion. There's a tremendous amount of plot all of which does get covered, but there is virtually no description of settings or characters. I don't care for excessive description (eg, "Gone with the Wind") but if you didn't know anything of the characters appearance or settings from the miniseries you'll still have no clue when you finish this book. This is a major shortcoming in the fairy tale genre. Also there are places where the authors add inappropriate description (some call it character insights) and leave out needed description, of which probably the most glaring example is the gutted ending of the book. Virginia's final voice over monologue in the miniseries left you so inspired you wanted to mail Simon Moore a dozen roses. This monologue was almost completely deleted from the book and so lamely expressed in comparison you wanted to burn Kathryn Wesley in effiagy. See the movie, buy the book as a reminder (but if you can get a copy of the screenplay get that instead!)

Summary: AN EPIC ADVENTURE FULL OF MAGIC, ROMANCE, AND MYSTERY
Review: I read The 10th Kingdom within 2 days, not because it was short, but because it was a great read. Mystery, magic and romance await you in the legendary Nine Kingdoms. Trust me you won't be able to put it down. I'm telling you this because I know good fantasy when I see it,in fact I'm pretty skeptical at times. However,I had no regrets reading this wonderful book.

Summary: One of the best books I've read
Review: I could not put down this book! It's full of magic, great stories. YOU HAVE TO READ IT. I can't wait for the movie to be out on video. I decided to read the book first. The characters are not shallow. The book is excellent.

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: Unfortunately, I haven't read the book (I am getting it this weekend!) but I have seen the miniseries and absolutely fell in love with it. It mixes reality with fantasy, sending two people from our world into a fairy world. Cinderella, Snow White, and the Wicked Queen comes to life in the plot, trapping you into a tale of mystery and romance. The mini-series has romance, and mystery combined, which makes it a very interesting and engrossing show to watch. I can't wait to get the book!

Summary: Excellent Story
Review: I saw the movie first and found the story so fascinating that I decided to read the book. The book follows the movie story line very closely, which means there are no big surprises. There are, however, a few character insights that I did not pick up in the movie. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great fantasy story.

Summary: Journey to the fantasy world
Review: I was completly sweep off my feet with the book as well as the miniseries. The author did a great job when she wrote the book. It makes you dream and believe in magical fairy tales. About time someone came up with the idea of making a fairy tale for an adult. Thank goodness it was this author, because she made the book so interesting that you can't stop reading. Hopefully we are able to experience the sequel.
